Tayto NHS prescriptions are about 8 quid so vastly cheaper than the full cost of the drugs.
Congrats on the job Don't, am quite envious of your breaded camembert. Mmmmm.
I've made leek and Quorn pie filling, going to let DD help with the pastry. Also a big vat of soup. Didn't expect to still be making soup in July! Have had the lights on today as it's so dark, that's not very frugal.

ipsogenix · 12/07/2016 16:31

lilac ds has just started brushing his own teeth and yesterday he threw away an almost new tube because it was slightly dented. Smile It's a learning curve. Smile

Canklesofglitter · 12/07/2016 16:41

Mini shop today to get us through to going away for the weekend. Eventually tracked down someone who knew someone who knew the person who owns the apartment we're hiring for the weekend. No idea when they thought they were going to contact us. Hope they aren't expecting a five star review...

DH has taken his surface pro laptop into a computer repair shop as the screen is cracked and it looks like no one repairs them. It was £1300 and is only 18 months old. Really hacked off now as we were planning to use that to stream music so we could ditch the vast quantities of -crap- DVDs DH insists on holding on to.

lilacclery · 12/07/2016 16:53

Don't just read your lovely idea about tuck shop for your ds and how your dad did one for you. That's a lovely memory to have. Sorry you lost him when you were so young and in such a traumatic way Flowers

em been looking at your jeggings on m&s website and there are mixed reviews, have you had them already? I'm a pear shape so jeggings/skinnies are hit and miss for me, wear size 14 in penneys jeggings, size 12 everywhere else but an 10 on top.

ipsos north and creme thanks for interest in my car, what I've decided to do is save deposit which will take until end of the month at least and think again then. I don't want to put the deposit on credit card, well I will to earn clubcard points but I will lodge the amount first before paying deposit. I will go test drive the other car I had been debating as well and see what to do then.

creme any new car could save some money on running costs

DD is doing an arts/crafts/baking summer camp next week 10-1 five days for €50 including two trips one to an oceanworld and one to a bowling alley, those days will be longer. I'm mega excited for her as it is totally her thing and is just for 5-8 years old so I'm not concerned about her being nervous going there.

ipsos that was fab to get a card back from the queen Star
I love when Tesco send a freebie box, gives a warm fuzzy feeling inside. My order history tells me it's two months since I got a tesco delivery(beg of May), got two in March, and two in Jan BUT in the previous 16 months I got 14 deliveries, aldi is definitely cheaper so I'm happy to see this.

wreck my dh would be like that as well with the complacent attitude towards not getting paid, that is why some employers get away with it in my opinion. Christmas before last his wages weren't paid for 3 weeks, he didn't notice the first two not going through because he had some funds in his account [facepalm]

cag I've had a similar experience to you regarding your maths class. Glad you're relieved though.
One lady I gave lots of support to last year at my slimming class, hasn't been in a long long time. I had spotted her near the competition's class one evening when getting diesel and had assumed she was attending that now but at the weekend I spotted her on fb at my colleagues class in a neighbouring town having received her 1stone cert. I know she doesn't drive so has to travel by bus to this class, possibly has free travel because of her age. So either I wasn't good enough, or she was too embarrassed to come back to me after putting weight on again. Either way I'm disappointed

I just made a phone call to a personal trainer who is going to come to our house and make out programmes for myself and dh to do using our multigym [embarrassed] to say I bought this for dh 8 years ago when I was flush and I've never ever used it. It's in a granny flat in house next door so I only see it a couple of times a year, this will now become a few times a week and I will run as well and hope for the last 26lbs to shift quickly GrinGrin This visit will cost but will be worth it

Cag I like your theory of going out rather than getting a takeaway for a small bit extra. This is true of our most local cafe but we only discovered that at the weekend and they're closing downSad, probably because their prices are a bit too low and there's a chinese going in there, presumably it's the same chinese that's already in the village as there isn't business for twoSmile This would be interesting as we rarely eat in at a chinese but like the menu at our local one Hmm We made lunch at home on Sunday and got cake afterwards in the cafe spending €15 instead of possibly €40+

space thanks for advice on rugdoctor machine, we don't have carpet and you've to hire it for 48 hours so I'm thinking it'd work out expensive, maybe could clean the couch cushions Hmm

wreck your village looks well, I don't get boden catalogue

Tryingtosaveup · 12/07/2016 16:57

Thanks lila, I really love having my DGCs. My DS has just said they are coming to stay for a weekend. So will have to plan for that. They live 150 miles away so it will be nice to see them and they have never been to this house because I have only been here a few months.
Ipso....now that handbag thing is really worrying. Turn the news off and go for a walk. It's not even a very nice handbag and I bet it cost a fortune.
Don't exciting about the new job. I hope you enjoy it....and get paid lots

lilacclery · 12/07/2016 17:15

sorry epic catch up on old thread there but only skim read last couple of pages ursula you needed to ensure your home is rat free. We had a rat in our house once, it bit through copper piping and burst a hole in the bathroom ceiling. I had told dh weeks before that one got caught in a mouse trap and escaped on me and he told me there was no way it was a rat, well it was [shivers at the memory]

tayto loved your post about day out with your dd. Reminded me I must buy cinema tickets for my dc too. Going to buy them for a day that dh is on nights so they're out of the house with au pair. Dd has camp next week and dh is on days so will wait for the following week.

They are going to attend the mobile library every Wed morning too and hopefully take part in this summers reading challenge too
They go daily to beach/playground/both, we live close by. We haven't had weather like em had though

need I haven't made pulled pork in yonks that's going on my menu for next week
adora fly over to SW Ireland, we can have steak sandwiches together Grin
ipsos Smile at your ds
snuggly we had our open fire lit on Sun eve, more for the comfort than the heat. Might make soup this weekend too

lilacclery · 12/07/2016 17:19

Ah lovely trying I try to visit my parents every 6 weeks. For the dc to spend time with them as my father is farming and can't be taking off to visit us when he feels like it

Ememem84 · 12/07/2016 17:32

lilac nope not bought jeggins yet. Holding out until payday. Being good.

tayto today has been glorious. Went for a beach walk at lunchtime to clear my head as work was super busy. Spent £2.10!!!!! On a honeycomb magnum. Yum.

found my other pair of sunnies today! I thought I'd lost them. Lovely expensive rayban aviators.bought at Heathrow in 2014 for my NZ trip along with a pair of wayfarers. (I get stressed before flying shopping soothes me.....) Found them in the back pocket of the car seat. No idea when they got here.

So happy I've found them though. Grin this also means I can't buy another new pair from Accessorize.

ipsogenix · 12/07/2016 17:40

Cankles it's really easy to buy a new screen on ebay and replace it yourself. We've done it twice with my laptop and we've also had two new keyboards and a new mousepad. There will be an information page online or a youtube video about how to actually switch the screen over. The whole process should cost you about £50 probably.

ipsogenix · 12/07/2016 17:45

Cankles this is the sort of thing that you need:

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Microsoft-Surface-RT-Replacement-LCD-display-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Glass-/171088544291?hash=item27d5ac0223:g:cqkAAOSwaNBUfV28

You would be as well to contact the seller before buying to check that it's exactly the right screen.

However, this instructions here say that taking the machine apart is a good way to turn it into a coaster. Hum. Maybe that is not so easy after all.

SpaceKablooie · 12/07/2016 18:25

Em, with a couple of pairs of Ray Bans, you definitely don't need another pair of sunglasses Grin! I've got a pair of custom aviators Blush, which I love inordinately. I really want a pair of wayfarers now though (although I need to try a pair on first...).

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/07/2016 18:29

.

CremeEggThief · 12/07/2016 18:42

NSD, although I might need to pop out for milk later...

Ememem84 · 12/07/2016 19:51

space I know... I'm happy I found my aviators but sad as I was eyeing up Ones in Accessorize.

Still. I have 100% more sunnies than I did yesterday. Smile

Sierra259 · 12/07/2016 20:09

Evening all! I'm also jealous of your gorgeous beach Em Seriously thinking of a holiday to Jersey as have heard from quite a few people that it's absolutely lovely. And good news about the sunglasses too! ursula hope you get the rats sorted soon. Well done on the NSD'S everyone.

Last night turned out to be even more dreadful than anticipated - poor DD was beside herself for hours and just wanted cuddles. I finally got her to sleep in her cot around 5.00am Shock Sad so have felt a bit sleepy today! Had a lovely day out though at a local farm/playground with PIL's who treated us. Hoping for a good chunk of sleep tonight as DC2 seems much better so far this evening.

DontLetMeLetYouGo · 12/07/2016 20:13

Lila yes I'm a single parent. Most hours will be 9-5, so will use a mixture of after school club and I live with my mum so she's always there.

Still NSD.

babsmam · 12/07/2016 20:27

20 in sainsburys.
Just been stung by a bumble bee as nearly fainted feeling quite wobbly now.

Tryingtosaveup · 12/07/2016 20:57

Hope she sleeps for you Sierra

lilacclery · 12/07/2016 21:01

Don't that's great that ds' pattern is not going to be affected loads by you doing late shifts. When I work late & dh is on nights & our au pair is away often kids don't get to sleep until 10pm luckily it's not often

ItalianWiking84 · 12/07/2016 21:03

Finally back, oh my for some very extremely spending days... Had to transfer money from saving otherwise we would already be broke. The wardrobe for dd room didn't fit and we kinda ruined it so needed a new one and had my friend from DE visiting which was absolutely amazing but costly and Sunday dh brothers are arriving from nl to spend the week, going to Lego land among others so costly again.
Just had a budget talk with dh and we agree that after the holiday we are tightening our belts in again and are back in saving mood. Unfortunately dh really sometimes don't really reconize the money we spend and tend to forget some spends. Hope some spreadsheet or similar will help make it visible. That's the hard part of being the financial boss in the house...
Sorry for the ramble...

Ememem84 · 12/07/2016 21:05

sierra it is lovely. I moan about it but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I spent years trying to get away and saying how crap it is here. Then one day I saw the island with new eyes. Saw it for everything it has.

If you do ever decide to come give me a shout and I can givw you the low-down of where to stay, where to eat, things to do.

Be warned. It's not cheap.

I'm flying to London (again) on Thursday for work and flights have set me back £200. Work will reimburse. But still for one day...

CremeEggThief · 12/07/2016 21:15

£2.43, on milk, 59p own brand jaffa caKeswick and a sympathy card, for an old neighbour, who lost her dad on Sunday Sad.

Ouch, Babs, how are you feeling now?

CremeEggThief · 12/07/2016 21:21

Have you any baking soda? It's meant to be good for bee stings, if you make it into a paste. Ibuprofen and an antihistamine will help too, Babs.

babsmam · 12/07/2016 21:50

I'm feeling better now. Rinse, cold compress and antihistamine.

Have lost off and it's only page one. Sorry guys will read and try and catch up
