Thanks, What. We did Florida when the DC were little, but they were too small for the rides in Islands of Adventure, they love rides so are excited about going. I love rides too ha! DD is desperate to do Harry Potter world, but we will save that for another day.

My bag always contains receipts for tiny purchases, leaflets that folk have chucked into my hand, wrappers that the DC have randomly passed me, either 25 pens or no pens, loose change, and a hard boiled egg (courtesy of my chickens!).

needastrongone · 31/07/2016 12:56

Em, they have these weird boxes of nuts in the supermarket. All healthy, raisins, nuts, all plain, then mixed in are.....smarties, WTAF?!

At Applebee's (chain for diner type eateries), the wine and beer was BOGOF last night. They handed me a glass of white, then gave me a JUG of wine too Grin

Whataboutwhathuh · 31/07/2016 12:59

I only have a small cross body bag. I've just ordered a new one from runway accessories from the Christmas prequel thread.

Mine has

Hardcore painkillers.
Baby teething stuff
Nail varnish
Hand gel
Tissues
Purse
Journal
Two pens
Sunglasses
Emergency snack for ds1
Carrier bag

I could do with some hand cream and lip balm

ItalianWiking84 · 31/07/2016 13:09

Em: we can access the sites and order but very few of the sellers ship to Denmark and then if they do the cost is ridiculous and we mhave get get taxed on the product Eden custom checks them.

Been to the zoo today which was "free" because we have season tickets so should be nsd today again Grin

WreckTangled · 31/07/2016 13:10

We're at the park and it's really hot. Hadn't anticipated that.

ItalianWiking84 · 31/07/2016 13:12

Enjoy your holiday need Smile

Ememem84 · 31/07/2016 13:32

italian i feel for you. a lot of sites refuse to deliver to Jersey Sad

I've just shittipped my handbag. in it were...

2 pairs of headphones, purse, about a million receipts, travel sick tablets, a loose tampon, sunglasses, phone, phone charger, box of gum, 2 pens, perfume atomiser, lip balm, hair grips (all loose), hair bands, blister plasters, oyster card, train tickets, a tissue, ice lolly stick, keys, mini deodorant, leaflets, business cards (mine and other random ones), hsbc online banking log in deely, paracetamol, and an eyeliner (which i thought id lost).

i really must dig out a make up pouch or something to keep things in check...

i made one in the sewing class i did a while ago. must find it.

Tryingtosaveup · 31/07/2016 13:59

Need, have a wonderful holiday. I bet it's very hot.
Italian....no Amazon or eBay ! Why? Isn't this against EU rules of free movement of goods or something. I think I would have to move country.
What harm is eBay?

Ursulatodd · 31/07/2016 14:03

Hi everyone Smile just popping in for an end-of-month-update. I've been reading (as always) but very caught up in end of term madness / beginning of holidays DIY! Although we have paid to have new radiator and plastering in the nursery I'm pleased to say that all of the paint and equipment was from our stash in the shed and we think we have enough left over to give our sitting room a fresh coat of paint (so much for maternity leave being for resting!!)

I'm so Envy (but also so pleased for you!) need of your poolside coffee - sounds blissful!

Italian, another thing I lived about Copenhagen was seeing all of the babies in proper prams! Either wrapped up and cosy in plenty of layers (and even seeing them parked up outside of restaurants in February!) or sitting up, looking around at the world!

At the beginning of the month I set myself ten frugal goals and here's how I got on: 1) set up eBay and PayPal account 2) sell £10 of stuff on eBay 3) cancel NT 4) cancel annual Norton anti- virus 5) reduce virgin by £20pm 6) negate new tent purchase with other sales 7) increase both of our childcare vouchers to maximum 8) research CSC card 9) make 5 year holiday plan 10) maximise tesco club card use.

I'm pretty pleased with how I got on. Over the month and going forward we've saved £20pm on virgin package, £8pm on Norton and if I include the £88pm by cancelling our cleaner that's £116pm saved in July! Our old tent sold for £350 and we've made up the rest having a good clear- out! We've sold loads on eBay, I just haven't got around to doing it on my account yet.

My 10 frugal things for August are: 1) cancel our Sitters membership 2) set up new bank account (which includes phone, travel and breakdown insurance) and change account to my married name 3) change my current account which has a £7pm fee (includes breakdown but won't need this - see above) 4) sell £30 of things on FB to pay for week 5 food shop 5) create envelope system of cash for groceries and summer holidays entertainment 6) cancel NT 7) collect Easyjet voucher for cancelled holiday 8) maximise tesco vouchers 9) increase data on phone contract 10) investigate new house insurance (ours is astronomical due to previous underpinning)

Sorry for epic post - think I'm going for quantity over frequency!!

Tryingtosaveup · 31/07/2016 14:03

I have just sat down after a much needed mega house cleaning session. Friends are coming so really needed to mop floors and vacuum around. One friend is staying so made bed up( after washing everything from last weekend's friends).
House looks a bit better but I feel knackered.

Tryingtosaveup · 31/07/2016 14:12

I am going to change my bank.
I changed to Halifax about 4 years ago when they were giving £100 to change. I know they are still doing this.
I like Halifax and I have accounts with them for the DGCs. Every month I get £5 bonus for paying in a certain amount to the account and another £5 for using the cc.
So they have written to say they are no longer paying the £5 per month for money going into the account.
So, time to change. I do not want to have to pay for my account, although I would if it was worth it with rewards, iyswim
I am thinking First Direct, Natwest or 123 with Santander ...although MSE suggest they may be reducing there as well.
Any body got any recommendations?

WreckTangled · 31/07/2016 14:21

First direct are brilliant.

SpaceKablooie · 31/07/2016 14:35

We visited a NT place today, lots of fun and we used our family membership.

CremeEggThief · 31/07/2016 16:01

£3.48, on bread, milk and chocolate bars. My mum's coming to stay for a few days, so going to make a mushroom and lentil pie for tomorrow and veggie sausages and mash for tonight, after I finish my cuppa.

Taytocrisps · 31/07/2016 16:24

Feeling very tired today for some reason. Forced myself to do some washing and tidied the sitting room and dining room. I think I'll veg now for the evening.

NSD for me although DH picked up some croissants. Does that count?

My sister is calling over shortly to collect DD and bring her to 'Billy Elliot'. It's a long weekend here so she'll keep her overnight and bring her back tomorrow.

Sierra259 · 31/07/2016 16:52

Hi everyone! Been absolutely rubbish at keeping up as this week has been a bit crappy and busy. Not too spendy though, so that's something!

Hope you're all well - off to have a massive catch up on this thread......

Ememem84 · 31/07/2016 17:15

Been at the beach this afternoon. Nice and chill. Had a sea swim Smile

I've emailed topcashback as I don't think I'd ever received the cashback from my London trip. Hmm it should be about £10.

As its August tomorrow I'm going to go back to three nsds a week.

Nsd today. Smile

Sierra259 · 31/07/2016 17:51

Trying we have 3 Santander 123 accounts between me and DH. We actually use 2 of them more like savings accounts and don't really touch them. The cashbook is decent if you put the right direct debits on and the same £500 basically bounces around accounts each month to cover that aspect. We've been very happy with it.

I saw the thing about the potential interest drop too. Martin Lewis has done a brief analysis to see if it would still be competitive - I think the link's on the MSE FB page?

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/07/2016 18:30

Happy holidays need

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/07/2016 18:30

Oh and nsd (only one of the month!!!Blush)

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/07/2016 18:38

That sounds fabulous Need.

ursula You can join new Zealand national trust and use it over here. Much cheaper.

Sometimes you can get cashback on new accounts from quidco and tcb.

£2 petrol for mower
£15 mil birthday
£2 beer.

£5 CB from topcashback, took it as Tesco points. Today is the last day you can!😰😰😰. Bastards reckon we'd rather earn points with tescos themselves. Fucktard wankers that they are.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 31/07/2016 18:49

Need Envy omg I am so jealous!! That sounds amazing, I would love to go back to America one day. I travelled around the states quite a bit in my 20s, feels like a lifetime ago now

My handbag is always full of crap Blush every now and then I go through it and am always surprised at how much rubbish ends up in there!

Have been working again today (day 2 of a 5 day stretch!) wasn't too bad though. Since being home I have done washing, hoovering and a bit if a general tidy up.

Am going away Saturday for a few days visiting friends and travelling about a bit. Will be going this on a boot strap so planning on taking quite a bit of food with us, we are lucky to have relatives/ friends to stay with and will be looking for cheap things to do when we are there!

Managed a LSD £4 on lunch.

WreckTangled · 31/07/2016 18:54

I'm also jealous need hope you have a lovely time Smile

I'm feeling a bit woe is me right now wondering if we will ever have enough money to be comfortable. Obviously we're not poor poor but I dream of owning our own home and it's just never ever going to happen! Even if I stopped spending Grin and we scraped up a deposit (which would take about 20 years to save for) we would only get a mortgage big enough to buy a beach hut. Dh seems to think we earn a good wage but I honestly don't know where he gets these strange ideas from.

SnugglySnerd · 31/07/2016 18:55

Bit late but I love that sideboard wreck. I also need to sort out my bag, it's mainly full of old receipts and shopping lists.
It's been a long day today, DD has been unusually hard work. Went to NT place for a walk this afternoon and bought tea and cakes to perk us up, £10.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/07/2016 19:01

You live in a pricey area though wreck. If you lived in the north you'd be in a house. TBH Dh thought we'd never have a house.

That's why I picked the nn fluffycloudland, because Dh that's where I was if I thought we'd have a house.
