I'm also doing the last minute free upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 so if I disappear for days, that's what it is. :-)

CremeEggThief · 27/07/2016 19:13

I've had a very busy day, unpacking and doing all the holiday laundry (I even managed to get most of it dry, between the line and the dryer), as well as meal planning, doing my online shop for tomorrow morning, catching up on post, filing, recycling and online banking. Phew! I decided to copy Italian and have a Chinese for dinner. DS and I shared Thai spring rolls, cashew nuts and chunky vegetables in black bean sauce and chow mein. Very filling and delicious. Spends: £10.40 for Chinese and £3.66 in the shop earlier, on milk, bread and 2 cans of Lilt.

Welcome back, GirlieGrin.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/07/2016 19:13

Welcome back girlie.
In short a lot of us are holiday focused be it been and gone, getting ready to go or saving hard to go later.
Frugalness has been ranging from superb to laughable.
If something is tasty then thanks to em it's le yum.
Think that's about it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/07/2016 19:16

Welcome back girlie.
I'm summary most of us are prepping for, have been or are saving for and planning holidays.
If something food wise is tasty you must say le yum (thanks em)
Frugalness has ranged from superb to laughable (mine is the latter)
Have probably missed loads there

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/07/2016 19:17

Oops sorry about the double post

SnugglySnerd · 27/07/2016 19:19

Welcome back Girlie!
NSD here - hooray! Tomorrow I need to get a few bits for our holiday i.e. swimming costume for DD and car charger for phone as camp site has no electricity! Also need to cancel milk. I could really do with some shorts but not buying clothes as waste of money as pregnant so they won't fit in a couple of months. I don't suppose I'd be wearing shorts in a couple of months anyway though so maybe it's ok to buy some!

Tryingtosaveup · 27/07/2016 19:25

Welcome back Girlie. Seems like you are really settling in to the house. And fab bargain with the wardrobe.
Italian, isn't it funny but things always look different when you see them up close, but I'm sure you'll find a pram you like.
Another NSD here YAY...unless you count the £100 excess I have just had to pay for a new windscreen 😥
And I've developed a cold...well DP came at the weekend and had a bloody cold....so now I've got it. Well he had a severe case of man flu. I've just got a cold.

needastrongone · 27/07/2016 19:41

Welcome back Bertie.

Waves like a mad thing at Girlie, glad you are back. Seems like you are coping financially with owning your own home. Brill to have internet access too at last.

Sorry about the prams Italian. Things look different in real life. I couldn't deal with a smell of smoke.

Hope you've got sorted now Creme.

Another laughable day in frugal terms.

£70 in Boots on all the holiday type spends, sun cream, after sun, shampoo, deodorant and the like, for 4 adults essentially.
£65 with beautician, shellac, nails, toes, eyebrows and fake tan. I've gone insanely dark and I hope some of it washes off Smile

Holiday goes over 3 weekends so some of the spends will even out due to lack of shopping at home etc.

Ememem84 · 27/07/2016 20:07

I remembered why I never go to the shops for food. I hate it. So confusing. I had a list. Then because I was waiting for Dh to bring the bags I went a bit off piste. Oops. £84. But most of that was on washing powder toilet roll and other store cupboard things. And all on special offer.

Sigh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2016 20:37

Ooh which tan need?

£6.40 fish and chips, £1.75 beer.

House insurance quote came, £200 from £130 last year. Got it down to £70 after cashback with John Lewis. I'll buy it next week.

Tryingtosaveup · 27/07/2016 20:44

How did you get it down like that Fluffy? Was it TCB?

needastrongone · 27/07/2016 21:20

Sienna tan Fluffy. I'm no expert but the beautician swears by it. Deal and a half on the insurance there.

Ememem84 · 27/07/2016 21:27

Good work fluffy

need let us know how the tanning goes. I've not tried that one. So far my absolute fave is xentan. But the beautician has to do it for me. If I do it myself I go patchy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2016 21:38

I'm thinking of doing st tropez and morrocan tans. Morrocan comes in different shades for cool and warm skin tones.

trying

  1. Renewal prices are always a piss take. It will auto renew if I don't ring and i have to have the whole "could you tell me how much the other companies quote is? Our insurance is defacto 3 million stars and totes amazeballs & we rescue kittens daily" conversation when I phone to cancel.
  2. It's not hard to get a quote down by using go compare & cross referencing with topcashback & quidco. It's just tedious and boring. Even with no cashback John Lewis do really good insurance.

Ipsos I would have put you down as a Linux girl.

BertieTodd · 27/07/2016 22:23

Thanks Need.

That's very impressive with your house insurance Fluffy, I'll have to start looking into mine next week, it will be due at the end of the month

Spends: €7 on fresh bread and a few last minute groceries, had family over for dinner this evening, 9 people in total.
I've spent a lot on groceries this month, I really need to reign it in next month. I'm pretty good on the weekly shop but the problem seems to be popping into town on a Sat and buying a few bits in bakery and butchers and then a few extra bits from supermarket, spending almost as much as the weekly shop. Definitely cutting down on that next month.

ItalianWiking84 · 28/07/2016 07:56

Yeah it's annoying with the prams, also that ppl aren't realistic about the state of their things. When I have stuff on for sale, I think I'm quite realistic about the state and that the price needs to be too. And I always write animal home even tho our cat is mainly outdoor. Smoking really smells on stuff and when your non smoker you don't really one have that smell esp not around your precious baby... But there's always loads for sale so we will find one before November no doubt. At least now I know we want an Odder so searching is a bit easier.

Movie and dinner were approx 60 in total but food was nice, and movie absolutely awesome, independence day is very recommended. Now going to have a shower and brekkie before picking up dd.
Creme: Chinese food is defn nice, we had buffet so lots of different things to try out, and dh even had some sushi.

All our insurances are paid monthly over my payslip, because I am a "public service employee" (really bad translation" we have a incredible strong Union who has negotiate us some very good deals on insurances ect, our home insurance per year is 56£.
Shouldn't need groceries today, hoping to wait till tomorrow where I can go alone and dh stays home with dd.
And pay day tomorrow hurra

needastrongone · 28/07/2016 08:00

Bertie, it's my nice bits of food from M&S than add up for me. I don't do bad at all with the weekly shop.

Em I would go patchy too. This was £18. I still haven't had a shower yet as I am going for a run soon, but will let you know. I look better for having colour, we all do I think. Top half of me was fine from all the outdoor equine stuff, legs pasty Smile

Fluffy I have done St Tropez before. Not the other.

Today I am putting cash in envelopes for the various teenagers who are looking after all my animals while we are away, with instructions. DC having their hair cuts, DD having acrylics (birthday money), finish packing etc.

ItalianWiking84 · 28/07/2016 08:27

Called Doctor, my sick note attest needed filled out for work so now that's sorted until maternity leave day. Thank god that does things goes electronically now, so much less hassle Smile

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/07/2016 08:28

£40 saved as cancelled my pt appointment as I can hardly walk. Stupid fitness.

Those of you who fake tan what's your colouring like. I can never get one light enough so use garnier build up every other day.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/07/2016 08:29

Hope you are ok Italian

Colliefeatures · 28/07/2016 08:35

I miss you all!

We're still frugaleering away here but have no news. Apart from I desperately want to move house asap (won't happen for months yet though!) Sad

Hope everyone is well! SmileBrewCakeWineFlowers

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/07/2016 08:42

Collie !!!! Fab to hear from you.

ItalianWiking84 · 28/07/2016 08:58

Lifelong: thanks. I have pelvic instability which gives me pain in back and legs and my blood percent is too low so constantly headache and tired, but can still work approx part time and due to the laws here get my full normal pay and then work get reimbursed from the state

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/07/2016 09:05

Ouch Italian, the joys of pregnancy eh. Pleased you are being looked after though.

BertieTodd · 28/07/2016 09:57

That sounds tough Italian, is there any hope of respite or are you stuck with it till baby arrives? When are you due?

Spends today:
€85 child care

Also need bread and formula so expect to spend €13 on that today.
