Dhs car insurance renewal came through today. They've doubled their quote.

So, I know what I'll be doing today Hmm

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 17/04/2016 11:11

Hi all just popping in quickly to say hello!

Hope you are all o.kay, been a lovely wend so far here.

Mum treated us to The Jungle Book last night at the cinema, its amazing! We were all gripped Grin spends £12 on a MacDs for us all, £1.99 on sweets - we went to Wilkos and got their pick n mix as its half the price of what Odeon would charge!

Think thats about it, stopped at mums last night and did the Junior park run this morning, my legs are going to kill tomos but am so proud of dd for doing it bless her.

Will catch up properly with thread later but popping out to meet a friend for coffee now.

babsmam · 17/04/2016 11:16

Just spent £70 between bandq and wickes but it would have been 107 from just b and q. Desperately need to decorate downstairs preferable before a family event in June

babsmam · 17/04/2016 11:18

I'm not sure about jungle book or how I feel about Disney cartoon classics being made into real life. Think I will skip it. We will be getting star wars tomorrow though so £10 or £15 depends if dh gets DVD or Blu-ray

Colliefeatures · 17/04/2016 12:10

girlie sounds lovely!

Submitted meter readings. We used £22 gas & electric in the last 2 weeks! Really pleased.

Ememem84 · 17/04/2016 12:57

Another day. Another beach picture. We sat outside the cafe and had coffee and shared pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Then walked down the beach and back to the car. It rained. But lovely to be outside and catch up! £5.

Dh has done a load of washing Shock

Beautiful, Em. I aspire to live near the sea again one day.

Newmamatobe · 17/04/2016 13:10

Thanks fluffy - likewise with cash back for yourself!

Changed supplier in the energy club MSE and saved £340 + £30 cash back - thankyou all for amazing advice!!!

WreckTangled · 17/04/2016 13:14

£26 at the garden centre on my dads birthday present and some glue. Then £1 something in tesco on crusty rolls and a double decker

I had located a new playground but dd was being awful moaning and being rude all the way round the garden centre I warned her and warned her. We go into the car and I drove (she didn't know about the playground) and when we got there she said 'what are we doing here? It's just a boring football pitch' Angry so I pointed out the playground and turned around and went home. I feel like I'm really failing at this parenting lark with her right now.

Cagliostro · 17/04/2016 13:21

Sounds like you did the right thing there Wreck - kids need to know where the boundaries are, IME.

How does this 241 cinema thing work? Can it be used with Cineworld?

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/04/2016 13:28

www.comparethemarket.com/meerkat/movies/how-to/

You can get cashback on it too. You just buy a one day uk travel insurance policy for a couple of quid.

Cagliostro · 17/04/2016 13:30

Thanks! We barely go to the cinema (apart from the odd Movies for Juniors) but might be tempted by that.

Not an NSD after all, as I've signed the DCs up for a maths tuition site - a home ed parent has set up a massive group sub, so it ended up ridiculously cheap (70p per child :o)

Thanks for the word on Boggle Wreck. I will try that. Sorry to hear your dd is feeling crabby. That must be hard for both of you.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 17/04/2016 14:00

Money we'll done on the job Star

Wreck you did completely the right thing there, all kids like to push their luck from time to time but hopefully a reality check might help her think about her behaviour.

Em loos beautiful where you are Envy

We are home now, a couple more spends £3.50 in Greggs on a sandwich for dd and drinks, I took some snacks with us so that saved a bit. Then sat in the park with my friend, was lovely and sunny Smile

Popped into Morrisons as my friend wanted to pick some bits up and I ended up getting dd some pjs that were reduced, am pleased as they are summery ones which she needed, 2 pairs were £7. Some school socks for £4 and a couple of other bits £2.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 17/04/2016 14:02

looks looks not loos Grin (although am sure the loos are very nice as well!)

Cagliostro · 17/04/2016 14:33

Does anyone know how one attaches a trellis to an outdoor wall please? Is it quite easy or would it risk damaging the wall? I've had a really nerdy cool idea for something but not sure if we could do it.

OP posts:
Ipsos · 17/04/2016 14:40

I think you have to use a drill Cag. www.woodiesdiy.tv/How-to-Fix-a-Trellis-to-a-Masonry-Wall
Don't fancy it myself. :-) Suspect the wall might fall down.

MoneyForNothing · 17/04/2016 15:55

Wreck You did the right thing with your DD. Every action has a consequence. Hopefully she'll be a bit more happy and grateful next time you take her somewhere nice.

Em Which island are you on? Are you on holiday?

I spent £2.86 today in Asda. Only the milk and eggs I bought were full price - I bought a reduced price loaf and also put a few yellow stickered treats into the basket. It was still less than three quid Smile.

Ipsos · 17/04/2016 16:06

Have you read "1-2-3 Magic" Wreck? I've found it enormously useful. My dc is lovely and cute and delightful and all that, but when he's got his negotiating hat on he is ruthless. That book taught me a lot about how to negotiated in 5 year old language and it really helped.

WreckTangled · 17/04/2016 16:10

No I haven't ipsos I've got how to talk to kids... But I've not got round to reading it Blush I might try 123 magic I wonder if I can get it from the library? She's just so rude at the moment. She's constantly telling me I'm not being kind and she screams and basically says 'meh' to me all the time it's exhausting because she's so lovely and kind and articulate most of the time.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/04/2016 16:19

NSD.

Colliefeatures · 17/04/2016 16:26

Ended up buying English Heritage membership for £90 something. It's good value for us. A trip to our local EH is £20 ish! Shock

I'm chuffed as it opens up endless days out here! Places we couldn't afford to go previously.

I'm sunburnt

CremeEggThief · 17/04/2016 16:35

EH and NT membership are great. I've only just let ours lapse this year, now DS is 13 and we've visited most places near where we live now and where we lived previously. It's come in handy on various UK holidays over several years too. Speaking of DS, he's just been on his first date! They went to a nice café in the village a mile and a half away. Aw!

NSD.

frazzled74 · 17/04/2016 16:36

I'm getting loads of inspiration from this thread thank you! Today I used leftover chicken and veg from our Sunday roast and made a pie for the freezer. We are going on holiday in half term so I'm on a mission this month to only spend £50 a week on food. Can anyone advise me of a shopping cash back app that I can put on my mobile please? And I'm also interested in the Picasso link that was mentioned up thread but I can't find it.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 17/04/2016 17:32

Wreck the how to talk to your kids book is excellent, it doesn't take long to read. It def helped me when I was pulling my hair out with dds behaviour. How old is your dd? I found around the ages of 5-6yo dd really pushed the boundaries, I was literally on my knees at one point! The good news is that it def got easier for me at around 7yo!

Babs I wouldn't write the film off without seeing it, I thought it was beautifully done and def pays respect to the animated disney film as well as being original. I haven't read the book but I get the feeling this new film is more true to the novel.
