£14.30 on veg and salad from a local market.

possible frugal fail - fell over due to a not very visible hole in the pavement, heel sized, and I won't know until they're washed if my brand new Levis that DH bought me at Easter have survived my knee hitting the pavement. Hmm

still need to get £15 out for school dinners. Then I'm going home and never leaving the house again, ever.

PurpleRibbons · 23/04/2016 14:49

Oh no, Em and Adora! Hope your jeans are ok.
Spent £40 in Waitrose earlier on a top up shop plus a few treats plus another plant for my garden. I'm trying to sort out the garden but plants are blooming expensive, excuse the pun!

CremeEggThief · 23/04/2016 15:01

Oh dear, Em and AdoraSad.

Spends: £25 to a gardener, to cut the grass in both lawns. The back garden is too big for me to manage, with having CFS. Hopefully I can afford it at least once a month for the summer months. Also, £30 on a gel mani AND pedi. Living in a deprived area has some advantages Smile. DS has gone with his dad until tomorrow and I'm going for a proper nap in bed.

Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 15:06

Oh no Adora! Sending healing vibes to your jeans knee :o

Yikes Em that's a big cost. I wonder what works out better for people - free consultation but pricey medicine, or vice versa. Suppose it depends on what condition you have. I barely ever bother going to the GP now since they can't actually do much with my conditions except write a sick note sign prescriptions.

Oh no adora! Poor dd is always falling over and ripping her jeans/leggings.

Right homework done (spellings handwriting and designing and making your own pirate flag with an explanation as to what's on it and why Hmm) now to hoover all the fucking glitter and hang up the washing.

Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 15:33

Frugal win. Thanks to good ol' Mr T I just used £26 of Clubcard vouchers to get £90 worth of magazine subscriptions - a year each of National Geographic Kids and Discovery Box Magazine. Should be a great supplement to the DCs' learning. :)

OP posts:
Comeonmommy · 23/04/2016 15:38

Cag last year we bought our dd's a subscription to Kids National Geographic do cost us nothing cash wise. The girls really enjoyed them and only reason we stopped us because this year Tesco have removed lots of magazines and have gone down the online route which just isn't the sameSad

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 23/04/2016 15:50

£22 Homebase for guttering pipe and bends (doing a complicated burying hosepipe thing tomorrow in tip garden, so hopefully I trip over it less), plus new French bean seeds as mine got frost in the big greenhouse last week Sad
£16.99 Argos for some davina dumbells. Not into celeb endorsed stuff, but cheapest!
Found what looks to be a good treadmill on ebay (a roger black one?) for £50, local enough to me for a pick-up. Might go for it...finishes tomorrow.

em ugh, speeding fine. Just done an awareness course (£85) to avoid points. I was caught by a faceless yellow van (big enough to be seen), not a dishy policeman.

adora take care of your knee your poor jeans

crème sleep! Glad your ds's mouth is a bit better.

Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 15:57

I was wondering about doing an online only sub for one of the children's newspapers. Figured it might be cheaper. It was. By a couple of quid Confused so if I was going to pay that much I may as well pay a little extra for a paper copy (which will be easier to use, highlight bits for research etc).

Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 16:00

Seems to be a print copy? :)

Oh no Em thats rubbish, can't believe how much the fines are these days.

Cag yes any duplicates would be well received here but no worries if not, dd is on a complete mission to find a 2p coin from 1983 that has 'new pence' written on it instead of 'two pence' apparently they are very rare and worth £700 Shock anyone who comes to visit us has to empty their pockets now!!

We are just back from town, horse riding and Lidls.

£1 parking

Spent £26 in Superdrug on make up and shampoo/conditioner. The Aussie miracle stuff was all better than half price so stocked up on that, hoping it will help my frizzy, thick hair Hmm the make up was on 3 for 2 as well. I wonder how much I spend over a year on cosmetics etc - I reckon its a fair bit more than I think!

£7 in M&S on new knickers for dd.

My mum paid for riding Smile

£39 in Lidls, very pleased as came in on budget and that included wine for my friend who is looking after dd tonight.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 23/04/2016 16:06

Adora can you complain to someone about a hole in the pavement? If its the councils fault the may compensate the jeans?!

AdoraBell · 23/04/2016 16:40

I probably could Girlie, but CBA. I feel I've kind of hit a brick wall after all the upheaval of the last year or so and I've decided I am not doing anything out of the ordinary for a while.

I'm mindfull of the fact that my sister was perfectly fine running round like a blue ared fly doing everything until the day she ground to a halt with CFS 15 years ago, and she hasn't recovered.

Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 16:44

Ha Girlie smart girl! Might have to check through our penny jar now :o

Thanks though, if you are happy with this lovely lot sending the coins our way Thanks Blush I'm sure there's already some duplicates in DD's collection. Sometimes my mum passes some on too, as people give foreign coins (by mistake or on purpose, who knows :o) at her work and they can't do anything with them.

I'm wondering about finding some little labels so DD can draw the relevant flags on and put them in the pockets with the coins :)

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 16:50

Ah sorry about your sister Adora - seems to often be the case that CFS hits people who are always on the go and completely changes everything :(

OP posts:
Ememem84 · 23/04/2016 17:14

girlie am frantically checking my penny jar now!!

I'm lucky in that we don't get points on our licence here. I apparently can get them if I drive in the uk and speed. But they don't count here. Ha!

We went to a local site which has a Neolithic tomb and a series of German bunker tunnels left over from the occupation of the island. They're excavate loads more of the bunkers and they are all "themed". Today's was dedicated to the slave labourers who were brought over to build them. Really sad. I also didn't realise that there were labour camps here during the war there were apparently 10,000 workers (at least) brought over. They found graves of 400. They know that more than that died here but no more graves have been found. It's so sad. One room in the bunker showed the ID cards if some of the workers. Their ages and a family picture of them before the war. Some but not all had "after" pictures. With their families when they were released. Some had pictures taken back here. With their families. At the places they helped to build.

So much history here. I might have to start learning more about it obviously I didn't pay attention at school

Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 17:22

That's horrible Em :(

I didn't really like history at secondary school. Uber-pushy academic school, it was all 'you will learn this for the test' and promptly forget it thereafter Hmm - I loved it in primary though. I'm only really getting into it again now.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 23/04/2016 17:33

Right. Decisions made. I'm just thinking aloud here sorry Blush my brain's a bit buzzy today!

  1. I'll get the First News (children's newspaper) in town next time I'm there, to see if it would be worth subscribing - I have a feeling it might be a bit beyond the DCs for the moment. And will look for The Week Junior for the same reason. These will tide us over until our new magazine subscriptions kick in.

  2. We're getting a printer. It's £40 and suitable for the instant ink thing which will be £3.49 a month (that's the middle rate one but you can change it easily) so definitely cheaper in the long run. I haven't actually informed DH of this decision yet. :o I also need to somehow find out if our old printer works, so I can sell it or pass it on. But how do you check a printer works if you don't have any ink?

WreckTangled · 23/04/2016 18:16

Dh left for work at seven before the dc got up and just phoned to say he still isn't finished and won't be home before they go to bed. Dd sobbed! He's about an hour away but I know he's not doing it for us/the money. He's near you today actually Cag!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 23/04/2016 18:48

We had a lovely day put at a big bang science fayre held at a private school but was free lots activities and we all had great time spent £1.50 on 3 yummy hm cupcakes while there.

babsmam · 23/04/2016 19:06

Oh no em sorry about the fine. And adora with the jeans. I would hope Levi's would survive that.
Cag that's OK I didn't expect an answer. Not sure about the planning and prep time. Are there any other tutors who you could trust to ask how they price? Don't forget cost like paper every month, folders, pens, calculator, or whatever other resources you might need that are fixed price. Hmm will think on as thinking about that stops me thinking about my stresses.
Spendy day but totally worth it with my besties. £50
Prescription cost are a nightmare. I used to ask for my meds to be 6 months instead of 2 but nope. I only needed the sods reviewing every year.

Colliefeatures · 23/04/2016 19:17

We spent £25 in total today. Socks & fresh foodie bits at Sainsbury's. And coffee at the beach for 3 of us.

I've been craving watermelon Confused I HAD to buy some! Theres no bun in my oven! No idea why I'm craving anything.

It's been warm and glorious here today. Did lots of gardening and am recovering from my water infection now. I had a shivery fever between 3am and 6am & couldn't pass anything! Horrid!

Anyway. NSD tomorrow.

My budget / goal for the whole of next week is to only spend £10 in Boots on foot stuff and £15 on t shirts for DS. I need some with buttons on the neck. So hard to find!

Ememem84 · 23/04/2016 19:28

adora I'm sure the Levi's will be ok! Definetly complain though.

Mint couscous. Merguez sausages wig chickpeas and tomato sauce with lemon courgettes for dinner. Yum.

Have joined a local history group on Fb. I'm curious now to see what else went on here...

PurpleRibbons · 23/04/2016 19:28

I need a cheap week next week. Easter hols mean we are well over budget already this month.

babsmam · 23/04/2016 20:05

Collie are you dehydrated?
I need a cheap rest of the month and think I can do it. Need to plan.
