I have to admit Cag, the tax system is so complicated and I was confused about it too, which is why I registered straight away to be on the safe side. I think that line about Class 2 NI contributions could be outdated, as you don't pay them monthly now - they're calculated when you submit your annual tax return. Could you ring them to ask? You don't have to give your details unless you decide to register.

MoneyForNothing · 30/03/2016 20:05

Just seen the posts about reclaiming PPI - I must do this as I've had numerous credit and store cards over the years and still have statements for some of them so it shouldn't be too hard to contact them. I don't know if I had PPI on them though. I'll make a point of going onto MSE next week and following their procedures with the template letters. Even a few pounds would help!

Colliefeatures · 30/03/2016 20:13

money I didn't even use the template letters! Blush

babsmam · 30/03/2016 20:42

PPI can be on any unsecured debt such as, loan cc finance agreement.
Just to throw into the mix card protection and mortgage protection were under scrutiny for miss selling too as well as package bank accounts more recently. Worth a check on all IMO.

Cag twas a genuine suggestion re the thread. Hope you get some advice.

blueteapot · 30/03/2016 20:43

Definitely claim your PPI my MIL got thousands back! Didnt think we had any but you have reminded me I have had an egg card and nationwide cc in my time, both long closed... hmm. Food for thought.

Long but productive day, got DS hair cut £5, washed cars at home, lots of laundry and ironing, cleaned the upstairs. Knackered now but a good knackered rather than my usual 'been lazing around' exhaustion lol.

Washing machine is now on the blink but I have cover so will ring them tomorrow.

Currently having a bath but need to input my electric meter reading after.

Badders123 · 30/03/2016 20:45

Sorry fluff...sail blinds

Badders123 · 30/03/2016 20:46

I had credit cards and a loan with hsbc but it's years ago and in my mAiden name and I have no account numbers or anything :(

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/03/2016 20:58

Oh sail blinds. I was wondering.

I don't think you need account numbers, they have them & you have a marriage certificate to prove the name change.

Maybe they'll give you £50 to go away. You can re-claim credit expert fees too, the insurance part can be reclaimed. I sent off the letters on mse & we got about £150 between us. There were a few letters from them but I waited and two cheques arrived one day.

£25 on shoeaholics, should get 10% CB.

Babelange · 30/03/2016 21:08

Long time lurker. Just to reiterate about PPI - I wasn't going to bother but went online to my bank and worked through their online template with answers mostly 'I dunno' - although I had kept a letter to cancel the PPI many years ago which I had willingly taken out because I was about to go on maternity leave... several weeks later I received just under £2000 which related to PPI on loans and overdraft. Ipsos · 31/03/2016 01:46

Hello!

Returning to report from the front lines. :-)

I've been very good about saving money, and am managing lots and lots of playdates on a huge supply of bubble mixture that I got for next to nothing from Tesco. Yay!

However, the exciting news is that I've figured out that ds seems to be quite frankly, deaf-as-a-post. I've been working hard on his communication, and realising that he's not willfully ignoring me as a I thought, but just totally unaware that I've said anything most of the time. I had his ears tested and he has glue ear on both sides and needs his ears cleaned out. Poor lad - to be deaf and none us having noticed. We're getting on much much better since I adjusted my behaviour to assume that he can't hear.

Cag that's wonderful news about your dh getting on so well in his new job. I'm thrilled that that's going well.

Girlie - great to hear about your mortgage coming through. Very exciting indeed.

I hope I haven't missed anything else. I'm still reading every post, but rather quickly in the small hours as everything is so busy during the day.

Are you getting on okay with the business set up Cag? I did this before and it was really okay, and not that difficult. Even a tax return was not that hard in the end. Good luck!

8FencingWire · 31/03/2016 06:57

Still NSD here. I can't remember what is it like to spend money :) (apart from DD).
welcome newbies!
I have been working pretty much non stop.
girlie, my mortgage application is with Nationwide too, I have the £500 offer as well. I am waiting to hear from them :)
light, I am in the process of splitting up as well (well, we split up some time ago but continued to live together). I am buying a new place and moving in with DD at the end of her school year.
I would have decimated most of my savings by then, I put 25% deposit down, so I will have a few years of frugaleering and building up my savings again. In the meantime, I am working about 70h a week to build up a little nest whilst I still have childcare.
Then I'll have 3 years of 'make do with what I've got', then DD will be old enough to mind herself and I can just work loads again.
I am moving from the sticks into the town centre, walking distance from everything. DD's got a good bike, I'm yet to purchase a town one, but a colleague has offered to lend me hers in the meantime. I have a car, but would rather not use it around the town. I also could join a cycle to work scheme and get a good bike this way. Maybe next year.

babsmam · 31/03/2016 07:05

Hey ipsos. Poor DS but at least you are getting it sorted

needastrongone · 31/03/2016 07:39

That's a fantastic and brilliant work ethic there Fencing, cudos for having the plan and the determination to get sorted.

I get my DD back today. So I am going no where near dpony today Smile, she can do him. We are competing all weekend anyway, so I'll have the joy of his company then. He was a good boy yesterday, the 'sensible' pony bucked off the other rider but dpony was saintly.

DH's dividend has landed today, so we are rich (in theory). Not really, but the bank account looks good Grin

Morrisons delivery today, we have no milk or bread etc so I'm glad I didn't stretch it further. £50, but a few bits for DS's D of E practice expedition this weekend too.

I've also sourced cheaper meat and veg from a local farm. Mainly organic or high welfare. Much cheaper than Abel and Cole.

Christ I sound like a middle class twat Grin

Wolfcub · 31/03/2016 07:52

Yay it's pay day! It's been a long month. ipsos poor ds but at least you know now and they can help him with the glue ear.

Ocado delivery tonight, need to clean out the fridge when I get home before it arrives

WreckTangled · 31/03/2016 08:06

Ds has a horrible cold and temperature again.

Off to a friends this morning then swimming lessons later so should be a nsd.

I'm going to try and start a claim for dh's fee laying bank account. He got rid of it a whole ago but had it for ages as was told he couldn't have an overdraft without it.

Lightroom · 31/03/2016 08:06

Thanks for making me so welcome!

I have to get a car, as H and I used to share one, & have no idea about the most sensible way to do this. I won't need to use it every day, as I can cycle to work, but I will need it to ferry the dc and visit my family. (It takes 25 mins by car to my dm & dsis but 1.5-2 hours by public transport!. Any ideas about wisest way to buy a small, reliable car? I don't want to go super cheap then be paying for massive repairs...

Pointlessfan · 31/03/2016 08:13

I was wondering how you were doing Ipsos, hopefully everything will be better when his ears are sorted. It's a shame for him but good that you are getting it sorted.

Mummyisamonster · 31/03/2016 08:19

Badders123 re: PPI. It doesn't matter if you've changed name or if you don't have account numbers. I didn't even write in but just phoned each separate bank/credit card company. They all have dedicated PPI claim lines now.

It was very easy. I got a lot of money back a couple of years ago and then last summer I got some more when one company said they'd reviewed my original claim and had got it wrong & sent me a cheque Smile

Just don't go through any of those claim companies. And good luck!

babsmam · 31/03/2016 08:21

Wreck that's definitely misselling. Cheeky gits.
Do you have a car budget light? Do you want to pay a monthly amount or buy one with a lump sum? Do you want to own the car at the end of it or would you consider these lease type agreements. No need to reply but they are the main questions you need to sort out first. Also will you have a trade in or not. Then decide what brand/size of car.

Badders123 · 31/03/2016 09:24

I've e mailed hsbc so we shall see....
I could go into the branch I guess bit I'm guessing I will need my marriage cert?

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 31/03/2016 09:39

Hi Ipsos my dd has had years of trouble with her ears and had grommets twice! Has your ds had glue ear in the past? The good news is now she does seem to have finally out grown it, which the Drs all said would happen but I never believed!

Its a lovely day here, the sun is shining so plan is to go out to the beach for the day. Think the sea air will be medicinal for both of us Smile

Cagliostro · 31/03/2016 09:49

Oh damn, I just realised we can't do the Yorkshire bank switch thing, as one of the conditions is paying in at least £1000, twice! Neither of us will be able to do that.

Cagliostro · 31/03/2016 09:53

And Ipsos we totally missed glue ear too! They worked out DS must have had it in the toddler years and we had no idea.

babsmam · 31/03/2016 12:05

Having a very productive unexpected day off. Toys and bedrooms sorted, car mot passed just need to collect it. Dc chilled out. Stuff for chazzer in a pile and to return stuff in another pile.

WreckTangled · 31/03/2016 12:15

Cag twice?! All the ones I've been with have usually been £800-£1000 a month and two direct debits. Try someone else.
