Cag Yes you can still claim ppi & Packaged bank account fees.

Em That's a good size budget.

Shoes I bought are going back. That's £60 coming back.

Cagliostro · 30/03/2016 18:35

I'm all confused and freaked out now.

This is what I read:
Register as soon as you can after starting your business. At the latest, you should register by 5 October in your business’s second tax year.

Example

If you start working as a sole trader between April 2014 to March 2015, you should register before 5 October 2015. I started at the end of April 2015 so deadline would be October 2016

If you register later than this, you won’t get a penalty as long as you send your Self Assessment tax return and pay your bill on time.

But then I just looked at this:

There are certain circumstances that affect your liability to tax that you must tell us about, and you must do so within certain time limits. If you do not do this, we call this a ‘failure to notify’.
The circumstances that you must tell us about include when you:
ï‚· first become liable to pay tax not earning enough to pay (even with my wages from work)
ï‚· either carry out, or intend to carry out a taxable activity that must be registered with us
Examples of when you first become liable to pay tax include when:
ï‚· your business exceeds the VAT registration threshold - you must tell us within 30 days of
this happening
ï‚· the VAT supplies you make change - you must tell us within 30 days of this happening
ï‚· your company first becomes chargeable to tax - you must tell us within 3 months of when the
company’s accounting period began
ï‚· you are self-employed - you must tell us that you are due to pay Class 2 National Insurance contributions within 3 months from the end of the calendar month in which you started

cag I cashed in my PPI refund today (using it to pay off a CC)! It was so easy. Good luck.

Got £20 back off a friend and spent £4.75.

Payday tomorrow. Phew!

WreckTangled · 30/03/2016 18:36

Cag yes it doesn't matter it all gets transferred over Smile I've done it a few times and no problems

Badders123 · 30/03/2016 18:41

Yeah...I'm a bit cheesed off about it tbh
But...hopefully in April I will get my arrears back!
Managed to get the blinds down to £1100 by having one less Sad
So it'll be a couple of months to save up
We are going away twice this year - in the U.K. - so summer will be very spendy Shock

Badders123 · 30/03/2016 18:47

Can anyone recommend a good ppi repayment company??

Cagliostro · 30/03/2016 18:48

I think it's been said that you shouldn't use any company, as it's easy to do it yourself and the companies just take some of the money. Not that I can advise really as I haven't got around to it! But I'm determined to do that AND the packaged account fees

Ememem84 · 30/03/2016 18:54

cag do the packaged account fees. I did it last year and got about £200 back from Hsbc. It's super easy.

Dh isn't home yet. Sigh. But the chilli was great.

babsmam · 30/03/2016 18:56

Badder try 247 blinds for good value and mse for tutorials on PPI reclaim and the template letters

babsmam · 30/03/2016 18:57

Cag not sure sorry. Do you feel up to seeing if there are any tax experts on the money forum and starting a thread?

beesarethebest · 30/03/2016 19:07

Hello!! Ok PPIs. Over the last couple of years, ive hung up on the ppi phone calls and basically ignored all calls to claim for mis sold ppi. But it looks like I might be missing s trick. Is that right? I've had several credit cards and store cards but I've never really owed anyone any money other than those 0% type where I'd take the relevant time to pay it off. Any advice as to which ppi claim place might be the best to deal with??

Couple of nsds. Mid week already - I can't wait for the weekend. Have a wedding to attend on Saturday. Must try and see if the clothes fit!

Colliefeatures · 30/03/2016 19:16

I never used a PPI company. I vaguely remembered I had an egg card so I contacted Barclay's direct (they bought Egg). They have an online PPI questionnaire thingy. All you have to do is supply your name, address at time of the debt, answer a few questions and that's all!

I also contacted RBS and NatWest. They were super easy to deal with. AMD it took just 3 weeks from start to finish.

My claims were only a few hundred in total. £300ish. But it helped us out massively.

Smile
WreckTangled · 30/03/2016 19:20

I didn't know you paid PPI on credit cards I thought it was just loans?

Cagliostro · 30/03/2016 19:20

Thanks babs I started a thread and am now waiting to be flamed for my idiocy Blush (I hate my brain)

(I nearly wrote 'I hate my Brian'. I don't know any)

Cagliostro · 30/03/2016 19:20

(that was a genuine thank you BTW not a sarcastic one!)

Cagliostro · 30/03/2016 19:21

Yes PPI is on CCs as well, I've only ever had one but it definitely had PPI on it when I signed up

WreckTangled · 30/03/2016 19:23

How do you know Cag? I've had loads Blush wouldn't even remember!

babsmam · 30/03/2016 19:28

Cag the tax system is so complicated I'm surprised anyone understands it

Cagliostro · 30/03/2016 19:29

I remember seeing it when I had a bill - it listed the things I'd bought, then a % interest, and a smaller % PPI

CremeEggThief · 30/03/2016 19:29

Welcome Light.
NSD.

needastrongone · 30/03/2016 19:31

I'm the same re PPI, I just hang up, but doesn't it encompass a whole range of products?

Chorizo and leek risotto for tea and the leeks were from my SIL's allotment, so frugal.

Colliefeatures · 30/03/2016 19:42

Yeah my PPI was on credit cards with small balances. And a store card.

I couldn't remember them all to begin with but if you contact the likes of RBS and NatWest - they'll check ALL accounts under your name (even if they are closed). They were so good.

I didn't know I had paid PPI - I contacted the banks just to check. Turns out I had. Blush

Glad I did. It was a MSE tip.

Pointlessfan · 30/03/2016 19:42

Welcome lightroom.
Cag that sounds great about your DH's job.
Very exciting about your mortgage girlie.
I can't stop sneezing and have a big red nose! Had to buy tissues & antihistamine and did a top up shop while I was there plus we brought ice creams and paid to go on a cliff railway today. Weather looks ok tomorrow so planning to go to the beach, that shouldn't be too spendy!

Colliefeatures · 30/03/2016 19:43

Also I think Littlewoods did PPI and possibly DFS.

My neighbour has claimed all sorts back!

Laska5772 · 30/03/2016 19:44

OOh look.... 948 posts! .... Did I even contribute to this thread? Blush
