That's a pain Em, something similar happened to me when I was a student.
spotty your hair looks great, it's so shiny!
Should be NSD today

Allgunsblazing · 11/02/2016 07:13

spotty, love the hair! And thanks for the new thread.
Welcome to all newbies!
em, I wrote a reply on the old thread and then I noticed it was closed. I too think it was uncalled for.

I finally bought a railcard. £10 off atm, which makes it £20 for the year.
Completed my 72h nsd challenge of the week. Big shop tonight, plus, we have friends for lunch on Sunday :)

NK5BM3 · 11/02/2016 07:14

Love your hair spotty!!

Em that's a pain. I had that happen to me once, whilst I was in Heathrow on my way out of the country!! It was difficult. I guess I'll have to inform the cc about pending trips then! I hate all this claiming back nonsense from work. I wish they'd give me a work cc.

Happy Thursday guys!!

SpottyTeacakes · 11/02/2016 07:27

Is that the network rail card? Mine expires in a few weeks might be worth getting it now...

Em that's a pain at least you have your joint account still. Aiming for nsd today. Hotpoint man coming to make the tumble drier safe then dd has swimming lessons later. She still isn't walking on her foot properly.

OP posts:
colliepirate · 11/02/2016 07:33

Oh Em! SO annoying about the card. Hope they sort it asap for you.
Spotty I adore your hair. It's beautiful!

DS's cough has gotten worse. Sad its horrible seeing him in so much discomfort. He sat in a steamy bathroom and it didn't help at all.

Fuzz will your DH find out about his job today? I hope everything goes well and that it's good news.

Ememem84 · 11/02/2016 07:36

nk it's a pain. I know I only have to wait a week though (payday next Friday) but still. In my old job I had a work cc. But I had to pay the balance in full each month. And then Wait to be reimbursed. Not a great system.

bought perfume £32 at duty free for my sisters birthday in April. way cheaper than over here. And got some milka and mini toblerones for my team as a thanks for holding the fort.

Today will be busy work wise and I think I should have time to run to the shops. Need ear drops (all the travel has aggravated my sinuses and ears even though the anti biotics have properly kicked in) and my ears feel blocked up. glam

Also have to go to the gym. Ate enough dim sum yesterday for lunch to solve any future World hunger crisis. No idea what I ate as the lawyer I was with is Chinese and ordered in Cantonese and the food just arrived. But it was all delicious. apart from the chicken feet

SpottyTeacakes · 11/02/2016 08:00

Collie might he need an inhaler?

OP posts:
needastrongone · 11/02/2016 08:06

Odd. We give our guys company credit cards, but the balances are taken from our company bank account, then the guys give me their receipts after I give them their statements.

Also odd that the block is a 2 day one too, what a pain.

Been productive. Pony done. 2 washes on. Sandwiches sorted, DC gone. Stock in slow cooker. Dogs walked. Smile

LeBoob · 11/02/2016 08:15

Spent £15.90 on a new journal yesterday, going to give bullet journaling a go in the vain hope I might procrastinate less I'm thinking I can keep better track of finances in it too. Hoping for a nsd today Smile

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 11/02/2016 08:33

Home with non-poorly ds this morning, will try to get some sorting done (I think in hoarding terms its called churning). Dogs walked, and girls packed off to school with dp.

Frugal win... dp will fix the pressure cooker, full new handle is under 20 quid...bloody thing terrifies me but means a casserole on the table in 45 mins. Am time poor in the morning and don't usually get in until 1730 weeknights, so quick decent dinners a must. Last week I would have slung it and got a new one from Amazon adding to the cc debt. So thankyou frugaleers.

This is such a great thread. Of all the thousands of mn threads I've read, this one is so friendly, fast pacy, and has had the most impact on me. Plus I get a nosy into other's lives which is brill as I'm billy-no-mates irl Confused.

lilacclery · 11/02/2016 09:32

Good morning everyone
Like ds would say whatcha doing to me this thread has moved super fast since yesterday

Welcome to everyone who has rejoined

I got paid this morning (get paid weekly), I noticed my phone cover needs replacing so went on to aliexpress to order that but stopped myself and just put it in the wish list, my old one is not unusable yet.

I have a big expense this week €95 for a homeopathy course so all other spends have to wait.

I really want to get my credit cards paid off and buying wants rather than needs won't get me thereGrin

Yesterday was €1.10 on a pack of crisps I eat about one a month so I'm ok with that spend.

laska congrats on baby news, my dss sil had a baby boy yesterday her 4th, I'll be packaging up all of my ds's clothes and sending them to her, she did the same for me 2 years ago. This will really help with tidying up my house as well.

Frugal win yesterday - I volunteer with local credit union branch and we're having our christmas meal out on Jan 20th, love a good meal out and especially a free one! Would love to be part of a dinner party group but after cooking dinner for the 5th time for two different groups I realised it's not going to happen and cut my losses.

Girlfriend36 · 11/02/2016 09:46

Morning all Smile

Needa i'm impressed that is a productive morning! I have managed to get dd to school late and put together one of her bday presents!!

Collie that doesn't sound good re your your ds Sad poor little chap, what does the Dr say?

Em that is a pain (although your bit about it all being you made me laugh Grin) I suppose its good in a way that banks are being careful but annoying when its not needed!!

Spotty Envy you have lovely hair.

Fuzz hope you are having a better day today, i meant to say a while back that I think the alternative therapy your mum suggested (kin something??) would def be worth trying.

I had such a nice day at the spa ystd, its one quite local to us but I had never been before as its quite expensive. My friend had a voucher so my day pass was half price. Needa I would recommend it, a nice thing to do with a friend or your daughter even - I came out feeling like i'd had a mini holiday!

Today shouldn't be too bad, I need to get a new strobe type light for the kitchen. Have never bought one or changed one before so hoping its fairly straight forward Confused

Whataboutnodetox · 11/02/2016 09:59

I just cleaned the oven, last time we paid to have it done. I cannot say I have done nearly as good a job as them, but it cost me the price of a box of oven pride and some elbow grease. We are going to be letting our cleaner go soon, I'll feel sad about it but I keep on top pretty well these days so it feels like an unwarranted expense. I feel bad as we are quite friendly.

DontLetMeLetYouGo · 11/02/2016 10:02

Just checking in..

Yesterday was a NSD.

Today will be DS ice skating lesson 23.50...

I'm off to the dentist later which will most likely be a hefty bill.. I'm having quite a bit of work done privately as I lost all faith in my NHS one and he has left quite a bit of damage.

Although it's not necessarily budgeted for, I have savings that will enable me to pay for this and as soon as I return to work I will do some extra shifts to build my balance back up. I need my confidence back so badly. I never smile no more.

SpottyTeacakes · 11/02/2016 10:08

The man has been to fix my tumble drier. He tried to sell me some lime scale stuff but I said no.

I've decided with my lamb mince I'm going to do stuffed jacket potatoes for dinner as I can make in advance. Dd has swimming lessons so won't be home until 5:30. I think swimming will be good for her foot too.

I have hoovered but that's all I can manage today as I'm busy feeling sorry for myself Grin

OP posts:
needastrongone · 11/02/2016 10:08

The level of procrastination has gone up significantly now girlie, as I am supposed to be ironing. I HATE ironing. Can you tell it's my day off? Spa day sounds lovely. I might think about it actually for DD. There seems to usually be decent deals around.

what Just lost my cleaner, who is pregnant and struggling with fatigue. We were pretty friendly. She got ME something when she finished!

Don't I get a bit cross re dentists fees and going private etc.

supermariossister · 11/02/2016 10:24

had my telephone appointment with the mental health services today which i was dreading they are doing a referral for some CBT which ihave no idea what it is or what i will be doing, its difficult to say if i would attend group appointments some days i want to take on the world other days i want everyone to leave me alone so we will see.

No spends today, showed friend what i have sent to her little boy as addressed it to him and she loved it and thinks he will love it so im happy.

forgot about valentines so ordered dp a card yesterday, its very rude but he will think its hilarious

SpottyTeacakes · 11/02/2016 10:41

super it's all about changing the way you think. I have my last phone session today. It's been fine and nowhere near as bad as I expected!

OP posts:
colliepirate · 11/02/2016 10:41

Just back from the doctors. DS has a very bad chest infection. He's had a dry ish cough at night for a week - so when the chest infection clears up we will be going back to discuss asthma. Or Allergies. The GP was agreeing with all the concerns I had. I like it when I'm listened to by a professional. Smile

Just need to get through the next few days. I'm so frazzled with sleep deprivation I can barely think straight. And I have bat shit crazy hair.

DH had to cancel his interview last minute to help me take DS to the doctors. Oh well.

I have started submitting meter readings a few times a week. I am determined to get my energy usage under control.

I'm also on a diet. Does anyone know of any frugal healthy snacks other than carrot sticks? I need inspiration.

supermariossister · 11/02/2016 10:46

i am willing to give anything a try so hopefully it will help spotty hope your last session goes well.

and hope ds is feeling better soon, i hate having a cough its the worst, hopefully get to the bottom of it and its always great to feel like the doctor is supporting you with what you are saying.

Ipsos · 11/02/2016 10:48

I'm just back from the library for the third day running. Ds seems to be on a reading kick at the moment. Nice sunny day though so that was good. NSD

LeBoob · 11/02/2016 10:51

I've totally failed at a nsd already! Argh I have no self control!

supermariossister · 11/02/2016 10:52

thats good Ipsos its nice to get out for a bit and ds enjoying doing something too. I am looking forward to the week off school it should be good.

Sorry to hear that, i think we all have slip ups where we spend and dont realise quite how much we are spending i know i do, dont beat yourself up too much.

lilacclery · 11/02/2016 11:35

What's fruflu? I thought it was a lapse at frugaleering Smile

Going to kill two birds with the one stone tomorrow evening must go to a funeral in the nearby big town - I live 13.5 miles from where the supermarkets are, so will do the shopping while I'm there and this will also save me dragging the children around the shops too and buying their demands too NB Do out top up shop list tonight thanks to our spends on groceries last week we shouldn't need any more than a small shop

AdoraBell · 11/02/2016 11:43

Running through -

vvv could you batch cook at the weekend? Not every weekend but I'm thinking if DH suggests you pick up a curry then do a big pot of curry, portion it up and freeze. Then when he calls you tell him it's in the freezer. And yes, lot's of scope to make savings.

em what a pain missing the flight, hope the Wine is good though.

need Grin at DH's texts.

Collie annoying, but I'm glad you had the money to get dental/eyes sorted.

welcome to all newbies.

So, DH's fancy new hearing aids cost just over two bloody thousand pounds that was on a 2 for 1 offer. Still, much cheaper than his previous ones
