Just popped to Aldi and picked up a few bits. Came home and took the stuff I bought off the Sainsburys online shop. I worked out that I saved £4ish! I only bought a few items.

Cheese, eggs, milk, cereal, pasta, part baked baguettes and crisps! Shock

Wowzers that's good.

fuzzpig · 13/01/2016 18:59

My DD still talks about the time we went to Toby Carvery (over 18 months ago!) and always describes it as follows: "the Yorkshire pudding was as BIG AS MY FACE!!!" :o I daresay the orange may be similarly the stuff of legend!

Wow £4 saving from those few items is massive! We don't have an Aldi here although one is in the pipeline apparently.

Ipsos I am totally losing track of who has what issue, I have CFS/ME, POTS and fibromyalgia. And Aspergers and depression/anxiety (possibly OCD). I'm a mess basically :o But yeah definitely struggling in the pacing department, it's good to read about how everyone else manages.

A friend asked me the other day how the work situation was going. I told her that the GP reckons I should quit. First time I'd said it out loud, it's horribly real now Hmm

I wish I'd taken a picture of it now. Sad

I've just done some maths. Last year I spent £1225 on clothes and shoes. And £381 on cosmetics/beauty in boots.

Dh pointed out that it's only just over £100 a month on clothes. Still a lot.

Allgunsblazing · 13/01/2016 19:31

NSD here and also booked 3 days overtime.
:) Lidl was selling huge oranges the other day! It's their season, no?

Pointlessfan · 13/01/2016 19:32

Why are there spiders in January? Stupid mild winter!
I also get my oven cleaned as I would only get round to it once in a blue moon anyway and I always do a rubbish job. We don't have a cleaner so oven man is an annual treat. That sounds very wrong but you know what I mean!
NSD - yay!

SpottyTeacakes · 13/01/2016 19:58

The spiders are coming in because it's suddenly got cold. It's what you'd expect in October 'Autumn spiders' massive fuckers.

Pointlessfan · 13/01/2016 20:18

My bedroom window has been open all day to try and ventilate it a bit, scared my room will be full of the little fuckers now!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 13/01/2016 20:24

Ohh don't make me worry about spiders Oct time u had a huggge big bugger on my bed nearly shat myself and had to calmly call dh without waking the baby they get me really worked up freaky things.

Dh forgot to get casserole out freezer this morning so sausage n chips from chip shop for dinner and casserole tomorrow now as that mash I made extra of won't keep any longer in the fridge

lilacclery · 13/01/2016 20:31

Place marking

Whataboutnodetox · 13/01/2016 20:43

Stop with the spiders. I'll have no spiders here. I will not. Urgh

I didn't do much today, have a hideous period and ds1 was in a shit mood. Gabriel didn't nap this morning so that lost me time to do chores. I've washed the towels as it is towel washing day and I made chicken Cosima from the nigella book.

Passport office have cancelled my cancellation request so I have my passport and can use it and no £92 out lay, phew!!

Spends today £150 on our contribution to s weekend away. Had the money saved in my holiday account so ready to go. Still doing the penny challenge and pound challenge. Husband noticed today and asked me what was going on!

Ipsos · 13/01/2016 20:54

Sorry to hear about all that Fuzz. I'm so glad that we have mumsnet to let us all get together and talk about stuff. I think it's a huge help for those of us who may have become a bit isolated. I've moved so many mountains since joining the frugaleers.

Keep up the piano lessons Fuzz. You're doing brilliantly.

witsender · 13/01/2016 21:41

Hi everyone! Hoping to join you guys if that's OK. Grin We live a fairly frugal life, but I have a kind of binge mentality when it comes to money. I'm really good, then go nuts on wool or make up or something odd, a new obsession. But I am determined this yr to save more and overpay the mortgage. It is currently at 155k and would love to get it down some.

Dh is quitting his job and setting up on his own for more flexibility... Which could be awesome or stressful...haven't decided which yet!

Ipsos · 13/01/2016 21:46

Welcome witsender. Smile I like person who goes nuts on wool. You sound as though you're made of the right stuff.

Girlfriend36 · 13/01/2016 22:04

Needa Grin at being the same person! I'm happy to pay £40 for some one to clean my oven every 7 years Wink Need to get someone in to do the carpets as well at some point....

I bought some mascara last week which is rubbish, keeps coming off all over my face - can I take it back do you reckon?

AuditAngel · 13/01/2016 22:19

£162 on Tesco shop, included some cleaning stuff plus lots for the freezer.

Plan for the next few weeks is to make lunches to take to work.

Thanks for the reminder that too much fruit is bad for teeth, I'm not a big one for puddings, and will munch on carrots (although they are sweet too)

DD1 didn't want to go to karate tonight as she hurt her foot at school.

Am trying to cut back on spending to clear down credit card balance (it was being paid in full until the run up to Christmas and I like that feeling). DD1's birthday is in March, she wants a party, so that will also need paying for. Usually I am to use the council tax savings towards the flights.

We also want to go away at half term, cost £600 total last year, so need to be very focussed.

Need to buy a present for a party, will try TK MAXX as DH face me a gift card he has had for a year and not used.

AdoraBell · 13/01/2016 22:31

Can't hurt to try Girlfriend

Welcome witsender you'll find lots of motivation and support here

Great about the passport What Grin

Tomorrow should be an NSD here.

bootygirl · 13/01/2016 22:41

Fuzz. I also have fibro. Pacing is important & it's difficult! I work part time. But on bad days have to pace myself. The sleep is the hardest! 💐

babsmam · 14/01/2016 06:26

Result on the passport what.
You are doing great fuzz keep going.
Welcome wits

Yesterday £5.36 in Morrison's on some bits I forgot Monday.
Nsd planned today

Ursulatodd · 14/01/2016 06:38

NSD Tuesday, £2.25 coffee at book club last night.

I wanted today to be NSD but I'm on a course that I am going to be an hour early for. It's right next door to a Lidl. I'm going to go in for a browse and give myself a small budget for anything interesting I see - any recommendations? (Obviously I'm going straight for a pastry!!)

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2016 06:57

Their cheese topped rolls are amazing as are all their pastries. Just buy one of each. Ours has convertible books in for £6.99 usually double that. I can't remember if you have dc?

Aiming for a nsd day. Ds had me up loads in the night as he's got a cold.

Ememem84 · 14/01/2016 07:01

Hoping for nsd today. Used some of my penny account to pay a smidge off my credit card. Started saving mid November. So took the money from then to 31 Dec. It's not much (only £19) but every little helps right?

Cc balance isn't huge (around £500) but knowing I have to pay it off is hampering my saving. So trying to get rid asap. Payday on 21st. I could probably pay it off in one go. But wouldn't have much/ anything left over for myself for the month once I've factored in bills mortgage savings etc. So by March it should be gone.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2016 07:46

I was supposed to have a friend coming over for coffee this morning but her dd is ill so we're going to toddler group instead. It's £2 but dh gave me the money so in still counting it as a nsd Grin

lilacclery · 14/01/2016 08:19

what that's super news £92 is a hell of a lot of money
welcome witsender you sound like me good most of the time, and then go on a bit of a spending spree

I've been looking at groupons for deals for when I'm in London, is there any other deal website ye recommend in UK. I've heard of wowcher on tv nothing else.

If I bought a groupon for a play at west end, ripleys museum, and dinner at planet hollywood would £85 a head be good value? Ripleys is £26.95 each on the door, guessing £50 for a west end ticket? Also 3 course roast dinner at marco pierre white's restaurant in cambridge is £35 - buying both these would use half my saved budget BUT would be 2 of 3 dinners paid for in advance and the other night is night of our arrival and we'll be eating in hotel that night. It's just such a lot of money to pay out.

Ipsos · 14/01/2016 08:26

Are you coming all the way to Cambridge to eat at that restaurant then? The train to get there will cost a bomb too.

needastrongone · 14/01/2016 08:44

I think there was a thread about Lidl best buys just this week? It came up on my Facebook feed.

Excellent news on the passport What

I would chance my arm with the mascara girlie personally. Although, it would depend on how much it was in the first place and the 'cost' of taking it back if it was bought in town etc.

Welcome witsender. My DH quit his job when the DC were tiny and started the business. It was the scariest time. We were on the breadline for a while, but nearly 14 years on, we couldn't begin to earn the money he does now. In a way, it's less stressful than having someone else be master of your destiny all the time iyswim? Good luck.

Audit Do you mind awfully if I make an observation, meant with good intent Smile Your supermarket shopping bills that you post are really high I notice. Didn't you spend £44 the other day? Even knocking off £20 for presents, that's £180 pw. I feed 4 adults for circa £100-£120 and some of that is Abel and Cole, so could easily be reduced further, so I am not brilliant myself!! I reckon I could reduce my own bill very easily myself, so wondered if that's an area for improvement? You did mention ready meals etc. No offence intended at all, you just mentioned paying down debt. x

I have sold a couple of bits on Ebay for £12 total, and my friend has registered her puppy at our vets, so I get £10 for that. Hoping for a NSD otherwise.
