Aside from supermarket shop being delivered NSD and had £84 returned for things so £20 up! I have a delivery pass that runs out mid month. They are half price until a week before! So annoyed. Can't decide what to do so I've cancelled the auto renew.

Going to spend my evening doing some year planning. We've decided we don't need an extension so saving to pay off mortgage early.

fuzzpig · 31/12/2015 19:05

Ah thanks everyone. I am enjoying deciding what to do with it! :)

Re: the games, DH thinks we shouldn't mention that we don't think they were bought from that shop as they wouldn't be allowed to sell it if it definitely wasn't their stock? It's definitely the same item though. I don't want a refund anyway, I'd much rather trade it in for a bigger game :o so they would get a bigger sale out of it I guess as we'd spend more on top.

figureofspeech · 31/12/2015 20:00

Fuzz I know the money is for a treat but would you consider buying premium bonds with it? Then you can slowly add to it over the year and accumulate a larger amount to treat yourself with.

Ipsos · 31/12/2015 20:09

I had a bit of a cock-up today. I put my smartphone in the washing machine, and it is very very broken. Normally this would just mean spending a bunch of money to replace it, but I can't use modern LED backlit screens because the blue light does bad things to my eyes, so the phone is not replaceable. Nobody makes CCFL backlit phones anymore.

Fortunately (being a die-hard frugaleer) I have 8 unused samsung candybar phones in a drawer ready for this moment. They cost me £9.98 each, 4 years ago, and I've been saving them for the moment when the world no longer made a phone that would work for me. I cracked the first one out today.

Baden Powell would be proud of me. SmileSmileSmile

Ipsos · 31/12/2015 22:18

I just printed out a 6 page summary of our household finances to give to my husband as a New Year's Day present. Even I think that's pretty odd.

Whataboutreindeer · 31/12/2015 22:29

I spent my evening putting recurring cleaning reminders in my phone Calender. I'm odd too! If it makes you satisfied I think that's fine. I'd like to do that for next year! I want spreadsheets but it means firing up a laptop!

Pointlessfan · 31/12/2015 22:36

I've spent a large part of the evening sitting on DD's bedroom floor in the dark, waiting for her to go to sleep. She has slept through the washing machine spinning, the dishwasher beeping and fireworks outside but woke up the second I left her room. Grrrr. DH is in there now and I want to go to bed.

fuzzpig · 31/12/2015 23:28

Oh no ipsos! Not the best end to the year. But well done for being prepared. Stocking up is sometimes laughed at but that's exactly the kind of situation where it really pays off.

Really interesting about the blue light. I got DSD's new glasses recently and we got different lenses, they have something in them that filters out the blue light as they said that may be what is causing her headaches and eye twitches. Hopefully it'll help because the twitching especially is driving her crazy!

Well I'm seeing in the New Year by myself, since DH is full of cold and I sent him to bed when he dozed off :o I am armed with the laptop, a DVD and my last can of Archers and lemonade I was going to order a pizza earlier as I'm ridiculously hungry but they closed at 9 today. So that's money saved I guess!

CremeEggThief · 01/01/2016 00:25

Happy New Year Fuzz.Wine

fuzzpig · 01/01/2016 00:49

Thanks and same to you, Creme! Wine :o

BingoBonkers · 01/01/2016 02:24

I shall try GumTree. Thanks. Good suggestion.

I'm having a huge clear out of baby clothes. I would love to sell them as loads are in excellent condition but selling on FB etc is a lot of time for not much gain and I think they are too good to give away plus I could do with the money to buy new:new to us clothing for the growing children. What to do?

BingoBonkers · 01/01/2016 02:27

I also used Quidco for JJMMB coats and earnt cash back. Sadly coats weren't in the sale but they are an investment and can be handed down so I can sort of accept the expense. Just! Plus I paid for them using ebay accrued money so not all bad.

Today I spent cash on Washing Up liquid and squash.

babsmam · 01/01/2016 06:34

Happy new year guys. I heard the new year come in as fireworks and cheering woke me up. No way I could have stayed awake. NSD planned today well bar 3.20 for the Tyne tunnel off to watch the new year swimmers.

Pointlessfan · 01/01/2016 06:46

Happy New Year! The fireworks woke me up too, babs!

colliepirate · 01/01/2016 07:46

Happy New Year everyone!

I was also going to mention the blue light lenses thingies fuzz. That's what my new glasses will have too..

I'm sleepy

Whataboutreindeer · 01/01/2016 07:51

Happy new year all! I got out of bed at midnight and watched the fireworks there were hundreds in all directions. Then I couldn't get back to sleep. Husband rolled in at 2.30 and has slept in the spare bed so I'm assuming he got merry with the neighbours!

I think I need to go and buy cream at the garage today. I've got my mum and step dad and little sister coming for lunch and I forgot to buy some for with pudding. I've got custard and brandy butter for the Christmas pudding but no cream. I've just put the lamb in the oven

SpottyTeacakes · 01/01/2016 08:02

Sounds lovely what. I was in bed by ten and the dc slept until seven!! Amazing. Today we're going to my friends for lunch, we're going to get a take away but dh is paying so nsd for me.

OP posts:
Ememem84 · 01/01/2016 08:34

Hoping for nsd today. Lovely chilled evening last night. We went to friends. £30 on takeaway for the 2 of us (beef pad Thai for me and yellow chicken curry & rice for dh plus our share of appetisers).

Played board games until 11.45. Then put to on to watch the London fireworks.

We all Got a bit emotional at midnight. We stupidly started talking about the year we'd had, family and friends who are no longer with us and how things can change so quickly.

Today we're having lunch with my family. And dry January begins.

Allgunsblazing · 01/01/2016 08:54

Happy new year!
NSD planned here, which should be achievable.
This month's savings target is £800.
£500 come out automatically. The challenge is the extra £300. I did some extra shifts in december, that should cover it, I think.

Must book some extra shifts in January.

Whataboutreindeer · 01/01/2016 09:08

Well I don't need the cream now as my family just cancelled. I understand why as they have good reasons but feeling a bit reflective and sad. Darn it.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/01/2016 09:10

Going back to Adora and the mascara my benefit mascara has six months once it's open.

My dd just did these for me to guess. She's 5.5 (sorry for proud mum post I would never put it on fb hope you don't mind!) she also said she knows noun doesn't have an e on the end Grin and the verb is jumping apparently

spotty, that's adorable v
I'm playing! I guess the noun is..house and the verb is..jumping!

fuzzpig · 01/01/2016 09:33

Aww that's so sweet Spotty! :)

I told DH this morning that since he'd retired to bed early, I'd seen in the new year with two other men.

Ben and Jerry. :o

No idea what we are doing today, probably not going anywhere as we're all knackered, so should be NSD other than perhaps spending my Christmas money online.

We have agreed to try and do the 365 day penny challenge. Except we've agreed to do it the other way round so we're going to do £3.66 today (due to leap year) and count down so there's not as much money needed around Christmas! We are kind of cheating in that we're going to start off using the money already in the change box - there's not much in there anyway, it's just because at the moment we don't have any other change.

Allgunsblazing · 01/01/2016 09:34

Oh, now I read she's given the answer!!

Allgunsblazing · 01/01/2016 09:35

fuzz, I like that challenge :)
