**New Years Eve Hmm sorry, its early.....

Pointlessfan · 31/12/2015 07:35

We had another bad night with DD, hope that's not starting again. DH finally got her settled at midnight and the bloody cat woke her up with his yowling!
Should be NSD today. Need to pay Xmas money onto bank.

SfaOkaySuperFurryAnimals · 31/12/2015 07:39

Unescorted- sorry to hear of your news- glad all okay.
Pointless - hope your daughter I okay, my twins didn't sleep on/off for the first 3 years.
Needsastrongeone- what's on the playlist for NYE? Black keys, guy garvey and quite a lot if the super furry animals this end Wink

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/12/2015 07:50

Unescorted That's awful, your poor boy. I hope he's recovering well and not scared of cycling again.

Bloody well done Blue. We did the same with a sofa from dfs.

colliepirate · 31/12/2015 07:56

pointless Have to tried white noise? It masks other background noises. We use it on windy nights, or if we have friends over and it works a treat. We use our cheap air purifier as we had one for my hayfever anyway.

Cannot wait to say a big "f you and goodbye" to 2015! Grin

574ejones · 31/12/2015 08:04

Unescorted how awful, glad he wasn't seriously hurt.

£30 on multipacks of coffee pods and a 2016 diary yesterday. Used up some old cheese and some almost gone over leeks in a pasta dish for tea.

Annoyed with DH as he spent £65 on the food shop when I planned leftovers/freezer food for most of the week!

Have you seen the No Spend Jan thread in Chat?

Pointlessfan · 31/12/2015 08:18

We've started leaving the extractor fan on in the bathroom, collie, she seems to like the noise!
Going to make frugal carrot and lentil soup today.

BingoBonkers · 31/12/2015 09:20

May I join?

I have no current income aside from what I ebay or make from FB selling sites. Sometimes I wonder whether any money is actually made because by the time you go to the post office any items sold for not very much probably equates the cost of petrol driving to the PO.

I took advantage of the recent 1p FMV offer on ebay and have listed lots of things but it's always a gamble as to what will or won't sell.

In January we have a wedding and a birthday. I need a new top for the wedding but that's it. Need wedding gift tho I suspect they would like cash.

Welcome bingo :) would you make more for your bits and pieces on facebook / gumtree? One of our most treasured wedding gifts was a set of beautiful wedding flutes engraved with our coats of arms, done in a local place - we since ordered a set for another couple and they were only £30 - is that kind of thing available to you?

I will miss 2015! But I was on glorious mat leave and now back at work lol

Iamnotanugget · 31/12/2015 10:25

Glad to hear your ds is ok unescorted It amazes me that with all the constant campaigning going on there still such selfish idiots on the road. Good to hear there are some good people in the world though and the driver was stopped.

Welcome bingo. We've had lots of weddings recently and didn't want couldn't afford to give money. Instead we just gave a card and took photos then while they were on honeymoon we got some photos printed (loads of sites do introductory offer of 50 free so cost couple of pounds for p&p) and put them in a nice album so they were ready when they got back. We also added a packet of biscuits and a couple of mugs. It has been well received each time and I've been told it was a favourite present as it takes ages to get offical wedding pictures so it was great to come home too.

We're also working through left overs here. Out tonight though at a friend's for dinner and a mini celebration. Will be in bed by 10 at the latest Grin

5minutestobed · 31/12/2015 12:52

Hello can I join? I have lurked for a while but I am hoping to get more serious about my frugalness this year.
I'm a SAHM and we have another baby due in 2016 so could really do with saving as much money as possible!

Girlfriend36 · 31/12/2015 12:59

Hi all, happy new year eve!

Welcome newbies Smile

Dd was at a sleepover last night she is now home and very tired!! Could be a long day....

Am actually going out tonight, first time going out on NYE in donkeys years. Babysitter will be about £20 I think but as a non drinker all other costs will be minimal.

Am going to look into getting my carpet and oven cleaned soon - both are looking pretty grim at the moment Blush

fuzzpig · 31/12/2015 14:08

FFS two sodding days I'm off MN and I come back to a new 9-pager! :o

You'll all be pleased with me, I've finally signed up for Quidco and it's one of my New Year's Resolutions to make sure I keep up with using it whenever possible (I'll have a think about frugal resolutions in general later). And my friend has started looking at broadband/landline tariffs for us so we can switch (we don't currently have unlimited so we end up paying data charges... £15 a month, I had no idea Blush) - he'd done it for a few other people and enjoys that sort of thing.

I have also been given, by a lovely lovely lady we spent yesterday with, some money to do something nice with. She is in fact the mum of the above friend (who I met at college), we became very close when DD was born as she kept us company a lot when DH was working (I had PND) even though friend wasn't there so she became a friend too. She's often said she enjoys seeing our DCs as grandkids, but yesterday when she gave me the card with money inside, and I got all embarrassed, she said "well, I don't have a daughter so..." basically it seems she thinks of me like a daughter as well. Made my day that, much more than the money, because truth be told I think of her as like a mum too, as well as a friend :) :)

Anyway, I now have £100 to spend on myself. I am actually not allowed to spend it on anything boring/necessary/householdy, and not allowed to spend it on the DCs either. "For you, and you alone" it said on the envelope. Blush

In other news, I managed to get to the sales in town briefly the other day, nothing of any interest whatsoever. Just stocked up on half price wrapping paper (M&S was the only place to have any!), cards and crackers for next year.

Also if anyone knows about retail stuff, I have a question please. I've been given two board games that are absolutely perfect... but we already have them! I was wondering about taking them to the local game shop and seeing if they'll exchange them. They are both still sealed, and they are definitely both sold in their shop (in fact we bought our own copies there) so there should be no problem selling them - their till is a basic one so they don't scan barcodes or anything, just tap the price in, so can't see an issue there either. What I was thinking of was asking if we could exchange, despite not having a receipt? We'd use the money to get a bigger game and so probably still spend about £20 to top it up IYSWIM. Do you think it's worth asking? Or should I offer to trade in for less value or something? I have no idea how profit margins and things work Blush.

blueteapot · 31/12/2015 15:26

Fuzz - cant hurt to ask? Youve nothing to lose there - my DM always says 'if you dont ask you dont get' lol. What a lovely gift from your friends mum :)

NSD, was up at MILs for lunch and now back home. No new years plans tonight although I would like to go out - but a)we have the kids and b) its miserable out and there will be minimal taxis etc lol so a NS new years eve it is I think

Anyone do slimming world?

Ememem84 · 31/12/2015 16:04

fuzz how lovely! Definetly buy yourself something lovely with the money.

Today has not been the nsd I planned. My team were getting sulky about having to be at work today so I nipped out and got a couple of bottles of prosecco for the office. £12.08.

We are now home from work. Weather is les miserable! And are heading to a friends later for takeaway and board games. They couldn't get a baby sitter. We didn't want to go out. They live across the road from us. Perfect.

Dhs 7 in 1 slow cooker thing arrived today. It is humongous. It's an insta-pot. Anyone have one?? Are they any good??

I'm still laughing at how huge it is.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/12/2015 16:05

Nsd. Back from work. Was soooooo busy this morning I thought the duty dr was going to cry. This afternoon went quiet though so I finished at three.

Happy new year all!

JeepersMcoy · 31/12/2015 16:11

Happy new year everyone! Went to the panto today so £4 on bus tickets and £16 on coffee and interval snacks. It is also payday today and I have been waiting patiently all month to buy myself a new shiny lunch box. It was £23 with a lovely bag as well. Somewhat frivolous but i am soooo excited Grin

We will be staying in tonight with trashy films and chocolate so should be no more spending today.

CremeEggThief · 31/12/2015 16:22

NSD.
Fuzz, that's a lovely anecdote. Please do as your friend asks and spend the money on you. You deserve it!

Happy New Year to all Frugaleers! Wine

colliepirate · 31/12/2015 17:15

Fuzz that's lovely :)

Did a little shop in Aldi (beef, chicken, bread, bread rolls, part baked baguette, nappies and baby wipes) and saved £4.69 than if I shopped in Tesco! Very very pleased. Will do the rest of the big shop in Sainsbury's.

Total food budget is £55 per week for January. Quite optimistic because we have loads of beer, snacks, biscuits & chocolates left from Christmas!

Happy New Year! Wine

colliepirate · 31/12/2015 17:16

Oh and thank you for the chickpea suggestions! Definitely going to give it a go.

Apparently they are a good source of protein! Perfect Grin

Pointlessfan · 31/12/2015 17:41

That's lovely fuzz, have fun thinking how to spend it.
I've managed to end the year with a NSD, have just been chilling with DD at home and we went for a long walk this afternoon.
Welcome all newcomers and Happy New Year to you all!

babsmam · 31/12/2015 18:02

Ah fuzz that's lovely and make sure you treat yourself [stern]
Collie yes to slow cooker chickpeas and as a protein source.
It's only bloody pay day woohoo. One overtime to come in January too which will help.

Need happy nye party, hope it goes well.
Hello new people and welcome along

babsmam · 31/12/2015 18:04

Fuzz defo ask especially if they still sell it. You might only get an exchange but better than 2 the same. I would Go along the really sorry, no receipts, kind gift etc

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/12/2015 18:28

Yesterday, £1 lunch, £3 beer (missed the cashback window) or it would have been 75p, £5 fish and chips.

Today 3.50 homebargains on squash, cups and Zoflora.

I've applied for a new bank account with hsbc to get £120. £500 min monthly deposit or no £120. Then I'll close it and open one somewhere else.

Fuzz Buy some nice clothes from the outnet or tk maxx or something. She obviously thinks a lot of you.
