£8 in smiths at the airport on fruit and drink for ds1 for the car journey home, had to rush lunch at the airport so needed to make sure he wouldn't starve on the way home. Lunch and parking covered by DH work.

£38 in Asda. Oops. I got a onesie for DS1, they are having onesie day at preschool so needed one. I could have done without but he's new at preschool and wants to be the same. Also bought pull ups as potty training has failed so backing off for a while. Bought elf nappies for ds2, cute. Then bought stock powder for soups and some chocolate. It added up fast.

AuditAngel · 07/11/2015 21:42

Oh, and £22 on Groupon for a Yankee burner and 12 Christmas wax melts for secret Santa

Eggwhisk · 07/11/2015 22:31

Hi everyone, im just quickly delurking to say to fuzzpig that home educators can book free cinema tickets here. I think the film festival runs up until November 20th

AuditAngel · 07/11/2015 23:01

Someone mentioned up thread about rag rolling to give DD1 curls for panto. I actually have some foam bendy rollers from the £ shop, but as she is a bit curly, she turns into Shirley temple! Am trying a diffuser to give looser curls.

riverboat1 · 07/11/2015 23:34

Today:

€20 at the market (fruit, veg, cheese)
€82 at the supermarket (weekly shop)
€1.70 at the pharmacy
€70 towards second hand oven to replace our broken oven (DP and I split the cost)

The oven is a bit of a bargain IF it works OK. DP installing it tomorrow, fingers crossed...

LtheWife · 07/11/2015 23:36

Hi all, hope you don't mind if I join you. Found out last week that my hours at work are being cut in half. Thankfully I started using YNAB a while back and had got to the point where we were debt free and buffered and had put enough away for a holiday we'd booked for next year. The cut in hours is going to hit us hard though so it's time to start living more frugally.

Expensive day today. Went to the local garden centre to check out a craft fair I'm thinking of booking a stall at and ended up spending £16 on lunch. Then off to the supermarket for the weekly shop at £73.

Going to book an appointment at the smoking cessation clinic next week. I've been thinking about quitting for a while now, the huge cut in income is giving me the kick up the backside to actually do it though.

Collieputthekettleon · 08/11/2015 06:08

L quitting smoking would be a huge saving! Hope it all works out.

Our bathroom storage doesn't fit because it's too wide. Not entirely sure if we can return it if it's been unpacked. I suggested the slimmer version but DH said no. Could be a massive frugal fail Sad bugger!

babsmam · 08/11/2015 06:49

Lsd planned today.

Hi L good luck with stopping smoking.

Pointlessfan · 08/11/2015 07:00

Welcome"L", good luck with quitting smoking, it'll save you a fortune.

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2015 07:08

Welcome L Smile

Fuzz thanks for that we're going to see minions too this morning now. £7 for the four of us.

AuditAngel · 08/11/2015 07:55

Welcome L

Collie usually they ask for things to be returned in their original packing. Can you put it back into that packing? if you can't return it, can you use it anywhere else?

ipsos · 08/11/2015 08:08

We had a most unfrugal day yesterday, but it was good. I had a friend over for a play date last week and it went well. I think we might need to do that more often to get ds some company in the winter, so we bit the bullet and went and chose new carpet and vinyl for the hall, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. We're going to be much smarter after all that.

Oddly, we had braced ourselves for the hall carpet to be really expensive, but the only one we could agree on was really cheap. Score!

lilacclery · 08/11/2015 08:24

Welcome L sorry to hear about your hours being cut. Would love to hear more about your journey with YNAB I need to push to start using it. I use excel sheets for my budget. But I bought ynab over a year ago. It wouldn't work with my last phone but I've got a new one now & it does work. Dh finds out Monday if he still has a job or not. The company his work supply has been taken over.
Ds survived the night without milk. So will see today if that helps his tummy bug. Yesterday was a rare spendy day. Will post later on.

fuzzpig · 08/11/2015 08:32

Hope you enjoy it Spotty!

Lilac yikes good luck for Monday :(

Thank you Egg Thanks we are going to see Mia and the Migoo (a French film - love watching animation from elsewhere in the world!) next Monday :o

Pointlessfan · 08/11/2015 09:12

Good luck tomorrow lilac!
Raining again here. Might go up to garden centre and use my free tea vouchers for this month. DD can see the pets and they have set u their Xmas shop which is always amazing.
Going to make soup too.

needastrongone · 08/11/2015 10:03

Morning.

Bloody rain, soddin' never stops.

lilac Hope it goes well on Monday, not a nice feeling waiting to know news such as that.

ipsos Hope you enjoy the new floorings, sometimes having new/nice things such as this can really boost you. Money well spent.

Welcome L. Big hours cut there.

Yep, spendy night last night on a lovely meal, far too much wine and a taxi home. Had such a fabulous time though with friends we see far too little of, so don't regret it.

Frugally, I have not renewed the house/contents. Premium had gone up to £621 pcm. I can't get over how much it increased by, it incensed me. Gone with Admiral, not quite the cheapest, but extra benefits that I wanted and still only £220 for the year. I've paid it in one, as there was APR on monthly payments.

Roast chicken for tea and a day in doing chores.

needastrongone · 08/11/2015 10:04

£621 per annum, sorry.

Collieputthekettleon · 08/11/2015 10:11

Good luck for tomorrow lilac! Flowers

Just calculated and if I took the shittest job I applied for up country then we would be £1000ish per month better off. And that includes reduction in council tax, mortgage and childcare. And an increase in gas and electricity, food and fuel.

Wow! Just wow! Smile

Whatabout · 08/11/2015 10:13

Need I was going to ask how many Picasso you had at that cost per month!

riverboat1 · 08/11/2015 10:29

Needastrong - glad you had a nice night out! I try to avoid cutting back on doing nice things with friends, that's what life is about after all. I'd rather find other ways to save, and not go to a social event at all if finances were really bad, than go and be preoccupied with trying to save during the night by not drinking or ordering the cheapest thing on the menu. Though I appreciate everyone here is in a different situation.

It is a very unseasonable 21 degrees and sunny here! Today should be a LSD, going round to a friend's house to help her with a project she is doing. We might nip out for lunch if she hasn't got anything in, but that should be my only spending today.

riverboat1 · 08/11/2015 10:30

...and good luck for DH lilac.

ipsos · 08/11/2015 10:40

That's great collie. :-)

Need I think you're quite right. Getting the house sorted out would really help. :-)

Star2015 · 08/11/2015 11:07

Hi all,

Hubby at work so I've had a frugaling morning in the kitchen using left over chicken and veg to make a soup. It's this one and has turned out fab-

allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/145/cream-of-chicken-soup.aspx?o_is=Hub_TopRecipe_4

How would I store this now in order to take it to work for lunch? Individual containers? One large one?

How long would you keep this for?

I'm trying really hard to be frugal and have nsd's... Reading this and how everyone else does so well really helps.

Thanks in advance for any help re the soup! Grin

Pointlessfan · 08/11/2015 11:31

star I would put tomorrow's portion in a small container ready to take to work then put the rest in one larger container but that's just to save space in the fridge it doesn't really matter. It should keep a few days or you could freeze some. I love homemade soup, I hope you enjoy yours.

Star2015 · 08/11/2015 11:33

Thanks pointless Smile
