Hope it's okay to start the new thread since the other one is already full

Just made cauliflower cheese with some bacon and cavolo nero for dh who had it for lunch and there is enough for his dinner too, the rest of us are having homemade burgers, buns and wedges

0.50p spent today. My nails and last times beauticians appt was more than my voucher Sad but only 50p. still had to scrape pennies out of my purse

£10 back from dm today.

Tomorrows spends should include snacks for work ( out tomorrow night and need to avoid a hangover. Planning on a couple of drinks, dinner and then soft drinks but in the event I lapse into wine I figure eating loads of carbs before hand might help...)

Wolfcub · 29/10/2015 20:28

Evening all.I've cleaned out the fridge and made a vat of carrot soup with the sad veg. Huge Ocado.order just put away - over £200 Shock but that included a new duvet for ds to replace his cheap thin Wilkos one, a restock of all cupboards and a new frying pan to.replace our ruined one. It's been a really.expensive month with dad's birthday, half term and him needing a whole new.wardrobe. Need to rein it in again over November

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/10/2015 20:31

Laska

You don't have to agree to DD increases, Sainsburys try that with me every quarter and I tell them not to.

Wolfcub · 29/10/2015 20:34

Ds's birthday not dad'sBlush

ipsos · 29/10/2015 21:35

Well done fuzz. That's been a great day.

Well done Wirral too. That's great that things are getting better.

Babs modern singers are totally different machines, as the company changed hands in recent years. It's the old black metal ones that are really good. Yours might benefit from a service though. Do you know how to run a piece of scrap fabric through the machine while gradually changing the tension until the stitches look the same length on both sides? You have to do it before you start sewing each project because the tension needs to be set differently for different weights of fabric. If the machine is worth its salt then it shouldn't take five minutes. If it's just not working for you then definitely blame the machine, not yourself. Sewing machines are notoriously crap fickle. Sorry, I feel as if I sound like a know-it-all. I hope I don't. I don't want to witter too long and fill the entire thread with apologizing for myself though. ConfusedGrin

Glad you've got a fiver left Collie. Well done. Dickens would approve:

“Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery.”

I've done okay recently. I've still got this boring flu thing but I've also still managed not to buy something stupid online and I'm still under budget for gas and electricity since I got my monitor, so that's good.

But seriously... When is spring going to come?

ipsos · 29/10/2015 21:36

Have you seen these Duvet suits?

I think they should be the official uniform of the frugaleer.

Laska5772 · 29/10/2015 21:47

Hmmm .... they are dead sexy ipsos ! especially the pouch suit .. but do you have to take it all off to go to the loo ? (and my DH would have an utter fit if I walked around in one of those ..)

fluffy DOH! of course... so why did i just let Eon do that? , ( frugal fail) Blush

In in the Dickens debtors prison .. £3.79 over this month.. but only because i cant be arsed to rtransfer such a small amount from my saving to my current account though

Ememem84 · 29/10/2015 22:10

Have been you tubing this evening. Halloween makeup. Specifically gothic vampire.

Then came across the catchiest song. Shakka say nada. I'm not sure whether I love it. Or hate it. It's ear wormed its way into my brain.

So I bought it on iTunes. Not usually my style.

You're welcome frugaleers

Laska5772 · 29/10/2015 22:33

I have just applied for a new credit card .. (my old one is out of its 0% purchases deal now and even though I pay it off each month , i dont want to risk giving them interest ) .

so have got a Post office 'Matched' card . They are offering 27 months 0% on purchases (and 16mth 0% on balance transfers , though Im not doing that ) and you get £25 back through Quidco for doing it .. Free money!! Grin

AdoraBell · 29/10/2015 23:02

£5 on chocolate. This is, mostly, for Christmas pudding, I do Nigella's flour less brownies.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/10/2015 23:26

I've just been sick. I'm hoping it's a one off otherwise we will have to miss out on the fun day we have planned with friends tomorrow. It would mean I could claim back a days holiday though as I've already booked tomorrow off as AL. Luckily dh is the sort to stay home to look after the dc when I'm ill.

Quick cheap soup, 1 cauliflower (about 89p) and half a leek, 2 cloves of garlic and a chilli if you like them (not actually in the recipe). Add the chopped leek to a pan with 1 tsp oil, add the garlic and cauliflower, add 500 ml of veg stock cook until veg is soft and liquid down to about 1/3 then whizz with blender. Leave some lumps if you like them. Add milk to achieve desired texture.

AuditAngel · 30/10/2015 07:14

Yesterday ended up NSD because after a 2 hour commute home from work I refused to go and buy DS a pizza base for homework and to buy pyjamas fit a gift. Will need to go tonight or tomorrow morning.

Need a weekend shop. Will try (yet again) to use a big Sainsbury's £18 off £60 shop, if not, it will be £10 off £100 in wpWaitrose.

sportinguista · 30/10/2015 07:27

Mornin all. 2 NSDs then a bit of a spendy patch, cat's vet bill 29.95 for her jabs. Got caught in rain on the way to DS sports camp so ended up stopping in Asda as had to buy complete set of clothes (it was torrential, but only after we set off of course) and I ended up buying a few more bits as he needs more trousers as at least 2 pairs of jeans no longer fit. Monthly shop in Aldi was £137ish which was a few Christmas bits thrown in. £52.98 for a dehumidifier and a mini table football for DS Christmas bits.

On balance around £100 will go into savings and have earned a few unexpected bits from small jobs from clients.

Halloween party for DS at a softplay with some friends which is ticket already paid and just a few refreshments there. He is looking forward to dressing up and everything. The adults probably will too so I will just get out some of my old goth stuff (the more toned down bits Grin) and do my make up.

Great soup Audit, we've been starting to live off them as it makes meals go further. I make chickpea, red kidney bean, Juliana, brocoli and cheese, minestrone and my fave at this time of the year pumpkin and carrot.

Trying to get around to my first slowcooking venture but don't have many recipes as want to use Quorn, has anybody had any success with it?

Arsenicinthesugarbowl · 30/10/2015 07:30

Like your November goals collie. As a newbie to frugality my goals will be to start reducing my overdraft, stick to a cash budget and menu plan for the week!
If I can do any of those things I'll be on the right path.
Food shopping tomorrow so will make plans today.

Pointlessfan · 30/10/2015 08:54

Hope you are feeling better now spotty.
Collie I find your monthly goals very inspiring so I've just thought of mine:
Look for car insurance asap.
Switch energy suppliers, I'm going to try Ovo too, I've only heard good things about them.
Finish Xmas shopping and start doing some cooking that I can freeze in advance.

We got a reminder yesterday for Pointless cat's annual check. That cat costs us a fortune!
Going out for lunch today with friends. I'm going to use the £15 I found in my handbag last week but that's my absolute upper limit, I'd like to spend less if possible.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/10/2015 08:57

Thanks I am. Except I have toothache and I only went to the dentist Monday Sad

needastrongone · 30/10/2015 09:23

November goals are a good idea.

  • Continue Xmas shopping, aim to finish end November.
  • Start to buy for New Year party.
  • Sell 3 items on Ebay
  • Meal plan religiously
  • No clothes purchases.
  • Try to use 3 unidentified items from the freezer and run stocks down

Having a quiet day in today, I only need to pop out and collect a parcel and buy some shavings for the horse box.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/10/2015 09:50

spotty Well that's a rubbish start to the day. Poor you.

Those of you switching energy suppliers, try the energy club. Then check for dual fuel and select gas only/electric only from the drop down menu. It's £5 a month less for us to have separate suppliers for each than be dual fuel. Plus look for cashback on quidco and tcb and get tcb to price match if one of the utility switching services is on there like uswitch.

www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub

£23 petrol. Didn't need it but wanted the nectar points as the 10x promo ends Saturday.

£37 aldi
£1.15 morrisons.
