Need, breadmakers are fab if you have the time for them. I find I use mine most of I am either going to be at home for the day or if I'm oh going out for a few hours - they do have timers though I've just never really used mine. The bread needs to come out soon after its finished or it affects the crust. It's also great for pizza dough, loaf cakes and making and proving doughs to bake in the oven - I've been using mine for a really.nice cinnamon swirl loaf recently. Panasonic is an excellent make. My mum's first one lasted through twelve years of daily use. Her replacement has lasted 6 years so far - still used daily and mine has done 9 years so far but isn't used daily

Collieputthekettleon · 28/10/2015 18:31

pointless is it a Curver bin? They are pretty good. And easy to clean! They are quiet which is why I love them. I hate clangy metal bins!

Just typing out my November goals. They are so boring! I'll share them on payday (Friday). I think we'll manage a non credit card Christmas though! We've been credit card free for 6 months Grin

Girlfriend36 · 28/10/2015 18:34

Hi all, another day of work for me Sad dd had a good day at her holiday club but have felt the odd pang of working mother guilt today, oh well work again tomos but then have four days off thank God!

Just a note on cheap tuna - please don't buy John West tuna, they apparently are involved in all sorts of dodgy dealings and do not fish in a sustainable way, they use also catch all sorts of other creatures in their nets such as sharks and turtles Sad Generally supermarket own brands are better. Sorry lecture over Wink

Spends today £1 on 2 pumpkins - nearly had sold out so glad we got them today!

£5 on tea for me and dd in Morrisons, dds meal was free with my meal and I got a free drink as well!

£18 on food, a top up shop I suppose although am hoping to avoid getting any more food for at least a week. This also included treats for the trick n treaters.

babsmam · 28/10/2015 18:39

Lsd. Skate park for DS £4, dh gave them treat lunch £8.
I don't rate my breadmaking for bread. The crust is too tough and the texture is not pleasant, too dense. However we do weekly pizza dough and bread dough I then cook in the oven. It's a morphy Richards one that cost a tenner second hand though. Maybe I need to save for a Panasonic

Arsenicinthesugarbowl · 28/10/2015 18:58

Evening all! Thanks for the compliment on username unescorted. It's from a book I like and was used to bump off the parents in it!
I've been at work all day so have spent nothing. This is a very rare thing for me as I always get something from vending machine or pop out to supermarket at lunch etc etc. I'm at DD swimming lesson so away from temptation. We won't get home till 8 so I'll be safe then Grin
I've often considered a bread maker but worry it will join my gadget graveyard of shame as I'll never use it enough.

Ememem84 · 28/10/2015 19:23

£9 in boots store (no7 eyeshadow duo and eyelashes. Had a £3 off voucher for no7)

£12 boots online for floss makeup wipes cotton wool pads etc. Via topcashback. Total cash back now £5.65.

Yippee.

Dinner tonight - oven baked sesame pork meatballs and veggie fried rice.

Should get £4 back from sister for posting something for her and £15 back from parents for sorting their return from trip food.

HairsprayQueen · 28/10/2015 19:28

need I have a breadmaker but found that it made too small a loaf to compete with the holes that the paddles left, it was so irritating so I gave up on it. I know you can get ones where the paddles fold but not sure if they are worth the cost.
However when I got a little bit of money I bought a kitchen mixer (not a kitchen aid or anything, just a mid/low range kenwood) and now just weigh out my ingredients, set it going with the dough hook and Bing it in the oven once it's proved, it's not much extra work but obviously you need to be about to do the stages rather than just leave it for hours to do its thing.

fluffy I've looked at approved foods before but can never make head nor tail of what I want or what is a bargain compared to supermarket offers, I really need to look at it with the big computer rather than my phone and see what's there clearly. Thank you though, it's definitely worth a thought for the cupboard stuff. I miss the days of the big bins of grains and pulses type shop, haven't seen a shop like that for ages.

574ejones · 28/10/2015 19:29

Re breadmaker - I love mine and use it 4-5 times a week, and have done since I bought it just over a year ago. However, lots of people don't use theirs so see if you can borrow one before committing.

£1.50 hospital parking, £2.90 lunch and £40 on Xbox game for DS which I will get back next week!

Whatabout · 28/10/2015 19:33

We have a bread maker and use it in fits and spurts. With me being on maternity leave I plan to use it to make dough for pizzas and the odd loaf. I can't remember if it's a money saver for bread but I'm sure it is for pizza dough.

Pointlessfan · 28/10/2015 19:33

collie yes it is a Curver bin - I'd never heard of them. There was a Brabantia one I liked but it was £129!

Whatabout · 28/10/2015 19:35

Oh and NSD.

blueteapot · 28/10/2015 20:08

We only use the dough setting on our bread machine, the loaves are horrible but the pizza / foccacia dough etc is fab :) very doable with a dough hook on a mixer though / by hand

Pointlessfan · 28/10/2015 20:15

We use our bread machine loads and it works out much cheaper than buying bread. It makes lovely pizza dough too.

Collieputthekettleon · 28/10/2015 21:06

£61.31 on a weekly Sainsbury's shop Blush blerghh!!

pointless Brabantias pricing is shocking. Enjoy your bin Wink

ipsos · 28/10/2015 21:14

Need the Panasonic breadmakers are amazing and make the sort of bread that causes severe addictions. We have one a few years ago. There are phases in ownership: Experimentation, Weight gain, Feeding all neighbours fruit loaf all the time. Our last phase was giving up wheat entirely and selling the bread maker on ebay. (Sad) Hopefully you would miss that last phase. Ours made absolutely cracking pizza dough.

blueteapot · 28/10/2015 21:15

I have crunched my numbers and made a plan ... to have saved up 6 months outgoings by the time I leave training we need to be setting aside £680 a month. Another goal is overpaying the mortgage any extra we can. And a third is to save to pay off the car loan before we come to remortgage which is in 2 years time. All on my new part time wage so we're down ? how much a month and back paying childcare. And I have a £1600 exam on the horizon, most likely May.

All help welcome frugaleers! Halloween Confused

ipsos · 28/10/2015 21:22

Did you say you're a medic blue? I'm losing track.

fuzzpig · 28/10/2015 21:24

Not really related to frugaleering but needed to rant - I've just had feedback about a project I've done for work, from home. I had asked a colleague if they'd like to help to involve them and the feedback (very positive) has basically put us on equal footing :( when in fact said colleague only did 5% of it. Which is fine, it was a great project to work on and I would've been totally happy doing it on my own, but I hate that I'm not there to actually make it clear how much of it is MY work because I'm off sick. Frustrated. But embarrassed because I'm being petty.

blueteapot · 28/10/2015 21:29

Yes ipsos I am.

Fuzzpig how annoying, but sure at least it was positive feedback overall

ipsos · 28/10/2015 21:45

I've managed to get my house much tidier now that ds is doing the dishwasher and dh is folding the washing.

I've had time to sort out piles of things in various places and move bits round to work better in the different rooms and everywhere looks so much better now.

I even managed to get my sewing desk clear and then ds and I settled down for an hour and made a complete set of clothes for his bear to get married in.

That's quite a result isn't it?

Ememem84 · 28/10/2015 21:50

blue try putting a small amount aside each week. £10 max. Then watch it build. I also sweep pennies out of my current ac into a savings one. Every day if I remember.

fuzzpig · 28/10/2015 22:05

Thank you blue I'm pleased I did a good job. I don't think it's deliberate that they've got the wrong end of the stick (about who did what) but unfortunately this is the one person I don't trust to say 'actually fuzzpig did most of it' IYSWIM. Anyway I have, very subtly and nicely I hope, dropped into the email what bits I did, so all ok now hopefully. I'm just trying to distract myself from disgruntledness! I wouldn't be so bothered if I was actually there, but I guess it's all mixed up in my sadness at being off work for so long.

Ipsos I'd love to be able to do things like that! DD is a little fashion designer in the making (I always want to say 'fashion monger' like Ross in Friends!) so I'm thinking of getting her a little sewing machine at some point. She's always making outfits for her dolls :)

Re: savings, we used to have a standing order to the ISA but had to stop when our circumstances changed. I'm hoping that when we're more settled and I can increase my private tutoring I can stick the cash (I do PAYG lessons as it's more flexible for all) in a box so it doesn't get spent. In particular, we are hoping to go to the UK Game Expo next summer and I'd like to save some cash for that.

WhirlwindHugs · 28/10/2015 22:13

That's annoying fuzzpig, hope its all subtly cleared up but I would be miffed too.

Interesting girlfriend! I've never really liked john west (just thought it tasted slightly different). I bought tesco own brand whose rrp seems to have dropped to 2.49.

Thanks for welcome everyone!

CremeEggThief · 28/10/2015 22:50

Welcome Whirlwind and AresenicHalloween Smile.

Fuzz, that would annoy me too.Halloween Angry

Ipsos, the bear's wedding sounds sweet and it's great you have freed up more time to tidy.

Spendy night, as DS had a scuba diving activity at the pool in town with Scouts.
£5.50 single bus fares for us both.
£4.50 two lemonades in a bar, as we got to town half an hour early.
£10 scuba diving.
£15 taxi home, as our last bus home leaves too early and the activity finished at 9.30 p.m.
£2.37 milk and chocolate bars.
£3 on chips from the Chinese, as we were starving. They were delicious.
£40.37 total.

fuzzpig · 28/10/2015 23:51

Thank you both. I am grateful for the responses, I still feel like a newbie in the world of work, what with being utterly useless socially (I have an assessment next week and I'm pretty certain the specialist will diagnose ASD) and I sometimes wonder if my reactions/feelings are justified.
