Hope it's okay to start the new thread since the other one is already full
£1 at Cornwall Ambulance shop for 3 books for dc after I dropped off my old slow cooker and some books and £1 at Prospect hospice for some wool and fabric
Just made cauliflower cheese with some bacon and cavolo nero for dh who had it for lunch and there is enough for his dinner too, the rest of us are having homemade burgers, buns and wedges

OP posts:
ipsos · 28/10/2015 09:42

Spotty, yes that does sound a bit of a problem right enough. :-)

ipsos · 28/10/2015 09:43

Classic unescorted. Love the cash in the floor. She'll be a big saver later on maybe? Our ds used to push the post back out through the letterbox into the street. :-)

Unescorted · 28/10/2015 09:47

Unfortunately she has worked out that it isn't just pretty paper... it buys clothes, nail varnish and Nandos et al. She now posts it into cash registers at an alarming rate.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/10/2015 09:57

If I move the bt I could get £90 cash back and a £75 sainsburys gift voucher. Unlimited calls and broadband for £25.50 a month. Win win? Currently paying about £30-£35 a month for unlimited bb and evening and weekend calls.

AdoraBell · 28/10/2015 10:15

Yesterday was spendy
Buses £14.60
Cinema £21 -
Lunch -£22
Actual warm winter clothes for DDs £120 and they need more. We will be near New York in November and they do not appreciate how cold it could be.

Hope your DS has a good time on the trip Audit

Halloween Grin at finding money under floor boards.

Wolfcub · 28/10/2015 10:30

It's tipping it down here so I'm taking 're shopping for trousers as he has nothing that both fits him and still has the knees intact. I also need a couple of work skirts to replace my two favourites that I dropped a bottle of bleach on the other week. then we're going to try and tackle the homework mountain. Confused

ipsos · 28/10/2015 10:41

It's tipping down here too and ds and dh tried to go out in the car but found that the battery is flat and even the mains powered charger can't start it. Mysterious! We are watching road runner instead.

Whatabout · 28/10/2015 12:00

Tipping down here too, so can't be bothered to leave the house. Think it should be anothe NSD. Now I'm on maternity pay (so very little!) I have to be very disciplined. My aim is to have four no spend days a week. When I look at my bank account at the end of the mknth it needs to have far fewer entries (or exits!).

Unescorted · 28/10/2015 12:01

Miserable here too....

SpottyTeacakes · 28/10/2015 12:07

Sunny here Halloween Confused dd is moaning at me because I told her it was going to rain but it isn't!

WhirlwindHugs · 28/10/2015 12:15

Hi everyone - I used to post on this thread under a different name then took a break, just signed back up to MN! Have been frugaleering offline Wink

I just thought I'd come back and mention that since tuna has been taken off the endangered list tinned tuna is suddenly much cheaper! 4 cans for 2.50 in most places. I have stocked up in case it gets pricey again, since it's one of my favourite cheap proteins!

We've also had an iceland food warehouse open near us. We received a voucher through the post for fiver off a 30 pound shop, so went and bulk bought cans etc. 21 cans of heinz baked beans was 8 pounds. They also had huge chunks of cheese (5kg blocks for 20 pounds) so if you want to do bulk baking/cooking for the freezer I think it's worth a look even if you don't buy a lot of frozen foods.

WhirlwindHugs · 28/10/2015 12:16

Also thanks you to everyone who gave advice about cashback sites when I was asking months ago! We have made about 80 pounds in that time, all on stuff we would have bought anyway. Really pleased.

HairsprayQueen · 28/10/2015 12:44

While freely admitting I'm too easily swayed by the media etc I have decided to significantly cut down our meat consumption and not particularly care about DH's opinion so I'm hoping I'll save a packet there now.

Have made a big cannellini bean, chickpea and sweetcorn chilli for my lunches, I'd forgotten how much I like stuff like that.

Made my own flatbreads to go with it! Also made a loaf and flapjacks for DH's pudding of an evening. I'm really going to try to stick to making my own stuff from now on. Have bought lentils for soups so I can disguise them and cous cous for the days when I want a quick side rather than wait for or ruin rice etc.

In other news once again I've muffed up the budget for the month. I hope these food baby steps will assist next month anyway.

blueteapot · 28/10/2015 13:25

That lunch sounds lovely hairspray!

Welcome back whirlwind and hello any other new folk.

The exam is over and Im knackered lol. Could go either way, a friend was there resitting and said the pass mark last time was quite high. Quite a few educated guesses. Time will tell! Glad to be on the road home. So much for my restful night hotelling as next door came home at 4 and were laughing / partying in their room until after 6 . Its lovely and sunny though and it is payday which makes it extra nice!

Need to organise some sort of frugaleering game plan now that Im getting normal pay again.

methinks there will be wine tonight!

Collieputthekettleon · 28/10/2015 15:13

Oh I failed. I popped into town and spent £4 on 2 cookie cutters (a dinosaur & train!), £2.99 on nail polish but it was £0 as I used Boots points, £2 on the bus and £1 on a ceramic spoon so I can add some polka dots to it.

I need to tidy up, put tea on and then do the weekly shop online before 5:15.

I've also decided I want a job in Lakeland or Hobbycraft Wink

Collieputthekettleon · 28/10/2015 15:14

Welcome back Whirlwind Smile

Unescorted · 28/10/2015 15:25

Colie you know it will not end well if you had a job in Lakeland / Hobby craft. Wink

Keeping my fingers crossed for your exam results.

hi Whirl & Hairspray

My dh is taking this working to heart - they are really busy at the moment so keep offering him extra hours. He keeps doing them too....and has given up wine so he can save more, has stopped moaning about fugaleering. This morning he came downstairs and emptied the dishwasher while waiting for his tea to mash. He has been kidnapped and replaced with a chipped clone.

Pointlessfan · 28/10/2015 16:00

We have a new bin and 3 portions of croutons in the freezer. Also got a good deal on cat food and nipped in Aldi for moisturizer and 99p store for toothpaste so a successful day all round!

ipsos · 28/10/2015 17:00

Well done pointless. What's the bin like.

Sorry to hear about dh unescorted.

Pointlessfan · 28/10/2015 17:03

It's a fairly small, narrow pedal bin. Cuboid rather than round so it fits perfectly in a corner. It looks like stainless steel but is actually plastic and it was £30. I'm very pleased with it.
Really tired now we've been having a clear out and moving furniture around.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/10/2015 17:28

Hairspray You might benefit from approved foods. They sell near date or out of date dry groceries. I've seen large catering packs of cake mix on their in the past which is ideal with custard or ice cream for puds. It depends how you are on dates. I know people who throw food out if it gets near the sell by.

Hello whirl.

We have a cheap laser printer, it was £50 and I buy the toners or whatever that big drum thing is on ebay. Last refill was £10 and it came with the recycling postage bag.

I really want croutons now. Pork chops aint gonna cut it now.

£40 on hair cut and £1.35 on milk.

If anyone wants wine for christmas the sainsbury buy 6 get 25% offer is back on. Champagne and port are also included, not sure on sherry.

ipsos · 28/10/2015 17:57

Which model is it fluffy? That sounds good.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/10/2015 18:04

Not sure, it's pretty basic one from 3 years ago. Google tells me viking do cheap brother printers.

needastrongone · 28/10/2015 18:11

unescorted Don't knock it, my own DH would stand in his underpants waiting for his tea and read BBC Sport!

Still having a frugal week. I withdrew £100 cash today, but that was supposed to be withdrawn at the weekend and I didn't need it.

I took pasta to work.

Spends -

£9 on a massive tub of flying saucers for DS as a stocking filler Grin
£10 M&S on a massive amount of reduced food and a box of half price biscuits for Xmas.
£10 on Halloween sweets for trick or treaters and some stuff to dress up the poor pony for a rally tomorrow.

Carrot, orange and tamarind soup for tea.

Can anyone talk to me about the merits (or not) of breadmakers?

fuzzpig · 28/10/2015 18:23

£7 on a set of watercolours, paper and accessories today. Mostly for art-mad DD (previously only had big bottles of poster paints) but I think we will all get use from it. Add another £5.30 for bus fares on collecting it (too far for me to manage the walk today) but still a bargain I think.
