You're doing a brilliant job on the ebay sales Collie. Do you buy things and sell them on for more money or are you just house-clearing?

ipsos · 27/10/2015 07:52

The Lords: www.parliament.uk/about/faqs/house-of-lords-faqs/role/

Many people seem to be in two minds about whether they're needed, though yesteday, they seem to have made themselves useful.

Star2015 · 27/10/2015 07:56

I read but don't post, but just wanted to say thanks to the person who highlighted the Sainsburys TU sale, picked up some xmas presents all with 25% off. Thanks!

Good day everyone Smile

ipsos · 27/10/2015 07:57

Hi Star. Lovely to hear from you.

Stellar67 · 27/10/2015 07:58

I have lurked on this thread for a while and been inspired. I am not so much tightening the belt, but donning the Victorian corset here.
I'm hoping for a NSD today.

babsmam · 27/10/2015 08:12

Hi star and Stella.

£40 in asda on dc clothes, £66 in sainsbury tu but some will go back.
£20 on rail card last night in preparation for easter hols.
Better get dressed now

ipsos · 27/10/2015 08:17

Stellar Welcome. :-) A lot of things are starting to feel a bit Victorian to me. What with the contraction of the welfare state, and the zero hour contract, and kids being worked so much harder at school. Maybe we frugaleers should start dressing in Victorian style for the sheer hilarity of it.

Collieputthekettleon · 27/10/2015 08:29

Hi star and stellar Welcome!

ipsos I'm just selling all the clothes that Ive owned but are uncomfortable and don't fit. I got so fed up about not being able to wear dresses that are too short, jeans that are too tight and jumpers that ride up and sit on my stomach. I decided to get rid and start again. It's working quite well. Just need to buy some comfy jeans and a thick jumper. Smile

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 27/10/2015 08:33

Aiming for nsd today.

It's very dark and windy outside. Have had to turn the lights on already. might just go to work early.

Unescorted · 27/10/2015 08:37

Hi Stella & Star.

Ipsos it was a rethorical question. Being a Civil Servant with a v. unusual surname I can't post my real views..... I hid them here.

Unescorted · 27/10/2015 08:37

spelling is optional in the CS - evidently!

ipsos · 27/10/2015 09:27

That's a great idea collie. I just have a very small number of comfy clothes and that works out really well for me.

That's a great relief unescorted One of the nice things about this group is that everyone seems to have their head screwed on pretty tight. Glad to hear that you were just hiding your light under a bushel. If you ever feel like saying what you actually think I'd be interested to hear.

ipsos · 27/10/2015 09:30

I'm knackered today and I feel like spending money on something stupid. Zzzzzz

babsmam · 27/10/2015 10:17

Don't do it ipsos

Collieputthekettleon · 27/10/2015 10:32

That's exactly what I thought ipsos small amount of clothes but super duper comfy!

ipsos don't splurge. How about having a browse on Pinterest? I've already been "pinning" homemade gift & card ideas and slow cooker recipes.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2015 10:44

LaChatte That list is brilliant. I wonder if I could get away with dump bags? dh always moans anything like spag bol loses flavour in the sc but if I put it in a roasting bag it cant can it?.

Whatabout · 27/10/2015 11:10

Does anyone have a good link for dump bag recipes? We are off to centre parcs in a few weeks and my slow cooker is coming too! I'm hoping to only have one lunch out and one dinner out whilst we are there and taking / making all our meals. My worry is I won't have a freezer so need food that will be ok in the fridge for three / four days. I'm thinking usual cereal / toast for breakfast, I'll make cake and flapjacks and take them for snacks. Lunch will be soup or something on toast. Dinner I'm thinking slow cooker meals.

Monday - spaghetti bolognaise
Tuesday - beef stew and mash
Wednesday - camp fire stew
Thursday - dinner out before I go to the spa

I'd like to do some simple desserts that will be cheapiah. It would be nice if I could take the bits and knock it up so it cooks while we eat the main bit. I've thought of rice pudding and pineapple upside down cake, I thought if I bought one of those pre-made pastry cases I could do a treacle tart.

The only other bit is then fresh fruit for snacks and taking snacks for the evenings. I'm hoping that by being organised we can have nice family stress free meals and not spend a lot. Food in the supermarket or in the restaurants is expensive and convenient. I'm hoping if I have nice food in and easy food it won't feel like a chore.

Sorry to just jump back in, I've read the thread and thinking of you all and agree this is a lovely corner of mumsnet. I often think of you even when I'm too busy to post. Collie I find guests make me very nervous too, but j always enjoy it especially when they have left!

blueteapot · 27/10/2015 11:16

Morning all. Hello star and stella :)

£6.50 of tesco orchard vouchers for frozen fruit / veg came... we use a lot of frozen (saves waste!) so they will come in handy. As I'm not using tescos at the minute (converted to lidl!) I will get some next time we are passing

Getting packed now, staying in a hotel in a different town tonight pre my exam tomorrow. Last minute cram-a-thon is in order. That or a soak in the bath and enjoying the peace ;)

Although we don't need any TCs at the moment I am really pleased to hear the news from the house of lords Halloween Grin I imagine a weight lifted off a lot of shoulders this morning

toobreathless · 27/10/2015 11:21

Hello.

Very cheap few days as I had a baby on Saturday Grin
