Hope it's okay to start the new thread since the other one is already full
£1 at Cornwall Ambulance shop for 3 books for dc after I dropped off my old slow cooker and some books and £1 at Prospect hospice for some wool and fabric
Just made cauliflower cheese with some bacon and cavolo nero for dh who had it for lunch and there is enough for his dinner too, the rest of us are having homemade burgers, buns and wedges

We don't have an electric steamer sport ,but we do have a microwave. For lunch I got DH to build a fire in the BBQ to sauté some bacon and onions! For tonight I've made roasted squash soup which we can heat up in the microwave later on, DH is going to make some soda bread rolls to go with it.

I think I'm going to try and do a soup lunch month for November, it would mean I'd save money and might manage to lose a bit more weight.

All the Scottish political leaders and the non-Conservative Lords are out to stop the tax credit cut now. Fingers crossed.

Pointlessfan · 25/10/2015 14:09

Welcome Emz.
Hope you are feeling better now ipsos?
lachatte a friend of mine freezes soup in portions with no labels so that she gets a surprise lunch every day!

Pointlessfan · 25/10/2015 14:10

Sorry ipsos if you were better you wouldn't be in bed! I meant I hope you are feeling better soon!

ipsos · 25/10/2015 14:44

LOL! Thanks pointless. Hope your dh is on the mend too.

Has anybody else noticed that paving slabs cost an absolute fortune? Our garden is a shambles to the point of being embarrassing and I want to do something about it, but the cost is astronomical. At this rate I'm going to have to learn to mix concrete.

SpottyTeacakes · 25/10/2015 14:49

You can get some nice ones for £1 a slab in b&q sometimes. We got ours second hand for free from bil's work.

ipsos · 25/10/2015 14:53

Thanks spotty. Are the B&Q ones quite thin? I read online that they did this deal but that the slabs are thin and likely to crack or break. The cheapest other deal I can find it £3 each which really mounts up for 100.

I got a whole lot already second hand but now I need more to finish the job. We're trying to get rid of a lot of our grass as it was causing allergy trouble, so I'm laying lots of slab borders to make lots of little flower beds and vegetable areas. Costs a bit though.

SpottyTeacakes · 25/10/2015 15:07

I don't know I'm afraid.

I've been getting the roast in the bag chickens from lidl and I'm really pleased with them. Loads of meat.

LaChatte · 25/10/2015 15:29

Kate , I've started a thread in chat (more traffic, more ideas) to get some more soup inspiration if you're interested (it's here if you want to join in).

Collieputthekettleon · 25/10/2015 15:49

NSD. We put soup in a huge Thermos , packed jam filled scones, baguettes, drinks and satsumas and headed off to the moor for the day. DS got to meet ponies, cows and sheep. Which he loved! All for free...

Plus the autumnal colours were stunning!

Now home and catching up. Welcome newbies Smile

DeccaMitfordsEntryVisa · 25/10/2015 15:53

Saying 'hello' and hoping to join in with you all

Ememem84 · 25/10/2015 16:11

Still haven't left the house today. But. Have ensued more things. Have sorted washing. Cleaned kitchen. Done meal plan and shopping list and have shouted at dh for not putting his clothes away. Smile

Have had all windows open today. Got a lot of fresh air in.

DeccaMitfordsEntryVisa · 25/10/2015 16:17

We've spent nothing today. Lovely lunch using up stuff from freezer. Husband and eldest out with friends at the moment on a dog wak, youngest has gone out with one of her friends and her family to a local place where the other family have 'free' entry due to their annual card.

I've ordered some things online for work but I can claim the money back.

Tomorrow I am planning a cinema trip using up some Odeon points.

It all feels rather good!

ipsos · 25/10/2015 16:38

I've had a bit of luck today. Dh has said he'll take over folding the washing and ds is going to be in charge of emptying the dishwasher, so I am not constantly knackered. That's brilliant isn't it?

Lovetoknit · 25/10/2015 16:45

Welcome newbies
Just trying to catch up £40 at Lidl yesterday with the £5 off voucher and only picked couple extra bits like the turkey mince which was on offer
Frugal win yesterday - got a free wendy house from a neighbour who is building a house next door. It used to be a part of our house but the previous owner divided the plot into 3 sections and tried to sell the veg garden as a building plot. Nobody bought it so their brother is now starting to build the house before the planning permission runs out. The wendy house will need new roof and some tlc but it shouldn't cost more then £50 to fix it up.
NSD today as we stayed at home but managed to tidy up the house, sort out firewood, do some laundry and dh took Apache out for walk.
Roast beef tonight especially for dss who is going back to his ship after dinner and probably won't be back till Christmas

SpottyTeacakes · 25/10/2015 16:57

Nsd for me. Dh spent £7 on a pumpkin and ride for the dc.

Ipsos does your dh do anything else? I hate folding washing it's my least favourite chore!

We just had a delicious roast with roast potatoes, stuffing, yorkshires, cauliflower cheese, peas and carrots. Yum.

ipsos · 25/10/2015 17:11

Spotty yes dh spends almost all his non-working time fielding ds. :-)

Pointlessfan · 25/10/2015 17:20

collie your day sounds lovely. We are packing a picnic and heading to an arboretum tomorrow for an autumn outing. That's if DH continues to feel better and I don't catch it.
NSD here. Made soup and banana muffins with some over ripe bananas. Also remembered we didn't plant all the bulbs we bought last month so DD helped us to do that this afternoon.
Not sure I like it being dark already, I feel very lethargic.

northender · 25/10/2015 17:21

1st full day of holiday here, in Derbyshire. Have had major problems with the tesco order, too long to go into but basically they cancelled our order (£400+) without telling us and for unjustified reasons. So 20 of us were left grocery less at our holiday house. We got sorted out via Asda but I had an irate conversation with their customer service department who blatantly lied to me and made no attempt to rectify the situation. Just wondering fluffy do you know an email address for somebody high up at tesco that I could contact? They have offered compensation but I still feel like people higher up the chain should know what goes on. Some of their customer service has been excellent & some appalling.

Good time apart from that and low spend so far. Have a good half term everyone Smile

Badders123 · 25/10/2015 17:25

Northender...get on Twitter asap.
Google name of their CEO.

SpottyTeacakes · 25/10/2015 17:33

You could Facebook them they seem to respond very quickly and efficiently on there. They've got quite a reputation for going above and beyond for sorting things out. I saw a man posted about only getting seven rashers of bacon instead of eight and they sent him more plus a smoothie maker!

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/10/2015 17:49

Welcome Decca

ipsos Dishwasher help is always appreciated. Try putting pans to the back if you can, mine clean better like that. You can buy second hand slabs off ebay in job lots and hire a van to fetch them. Then you need to level the ground and use a machine to pack the earth down etc but you can hire them. talkinpeece On the money matters board did that for her garden. It's not the slabs that cost it's the labour to fit them. We joke everything for the house costs a £1k.

£3 repaid to dn's partner.

Emz449 · 25/10/2015 17:56

Havent spent anything today, on account of not actually leaving the house! Hoping to not have to spend anything Monday - Thursday on food really, have got enough soup in the freezer to do for lunches and dinners and enough weetabix to last until mid-november for breakfast. Will only need to buy bananas to chop in. Friday will do veg shop to make more soup that will last for another 2 weeks Smile Weekend off to London for the night so will probably be pricey!

Phone bill comes out tomorrow, £42.00, can't wait to get this contract cancelled!

SpottyTeacakes · 25/10/2015 18:03

It'll probably be mouldy by Halloween but never mind!

needastrongone · 25/10/2015 18:08

ipsos My DH and DC get TOLD what they are doing. There are 4 of us in the family. So, it's not MY washing or MY dishwasher or MY mess, it's OURS. Therefore, we ALL get to clean it up, sort it out, i.e run the house Smile I am not running myself ragged clearing up after them, even DH, who works silly hours. Good for you!

north I have had similar for Asda, shocking. I agree, Facebook is the way forward.

love Good news on the wendy house.

collie Sounds like a lovely day.

Had a super day. DD had a fab riding lesson. New pony is a school master at flatwork, which ain't great for her as she needs to correct her own mistakes but we had a great games session afterwards and pony is knackered.

4 bits of clothes on Ebay have made me £48 Grin

My thai red curry and sweet potato soup is lovely, as is carrot and orange.
