what Hey, don't sweat the feeding. We mothers have enough guilt! Do what is right for you. I had a hard time with DS1 but DD was a dream to feed, it doesn't always work how we want to it. Good news about your extra pay.

love Where did you get your veg box from, out of interest. Abel and Cole are working out well for me, but I used the local market too for a long while.

Spent a little more than I expected today.

£5 in M&S on 5 cards (September is a bit of a mare for birthdays)
£11 in Home bargains, but mainly on tombola prizes for a childrens tombola I am organising.
£2.60 on sawdust for the chickens.

Feeling a touch like a headless chicken at the minute!

Whatabout · 23/09/2015 15:55

Morrisons have the choc tubs on two for £7 if anyone is sticking their Christmas larder. I will be visiting mine this week :/))

TheOnlyPink · 23/09/2015 16:05

Shoes were €132. Blush feel a but ridiculous spending that much on children's shoes. But ds 1 needs the support (special needs related), and fear that ds2 will be the same, so go to the same shop for his.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2015 16:31

need Sept is a mare for a lot of people for birthdays Grin Wink. I think some people only dtd at Christmas. The sauce pots.

I am so pleased your bills are down collie and what. My own family don't listen to me at all on energy saving.

I'm going to reprogram our water to 15 mins a night not 20 in celebration.

fuzzpig · 23/09/2015 16:32

Thanks Thanks

Signed off til the middle of next month. I'm pretty certain I'll be into Sick Pay territory by the end of it so even more need to get frugal.

Spoke to CM as obviously it'll be harder to afford it now, I've still got to pay/use next month's but after that she has kindly said we can just go 'ad hoc' after that so if I'm off sick longer, I don't need to pay for sessions if I'm not using them.

Pink FWIW I think shoes are something not to be scrimped on if possible. Supportive shoes are worth their weight in gold.

Whatabout · 23/09/2015 16:40

Fluffy, it's teachers and Christmas baby month alright, I'm not a teacher Blush

needastrongone · 23/09/2015 16:44

Grin at fluffy and her 'celebration'

Brithdays are not as expensive as in previous years, as nearly all my nephews and nieces are now over 18 and we don't buy for adults, it used to be worse than Christmas, or at least as bad. It is BIL's 60th though, so he will get a nice bottle of malt, very apt given he's a Scot.

I am roasting new potatoes in the oven with some amazing olive oil I bought in Italy, chock full of rosemary and other peppercorns and about 3 euros! Seems a shame to put them in the fritatta I was planning so I might use them as a side and make chorizo, spinach and mushroom omelettes instead.

Informed DS he's cleaning out my car, I am busting a gut at the minute and he's sat playing on the X-box.

Kids shoes - one thing that now seems strange to me is the correlation between the time worn and money spent. By this, I mean that, in primary, the expensive, well fitted shoes are worn to/from school and then at playtimes (so, maybe 2 hours?) and cheap tesco pumps for the majority of the time while indoors!

Actually, in secondary, when most parents have relaxed a bit, the school shoes are worn for 9 hours a day!! I still buy well fitted shoes for my teens, but looking back now, seems a bit odd!

fuzz Might be the best outcome, I know it's hard and you love your job. And good news about your CM.

lilacclery · 23/09/2015 16:44

I agree with fuzz I go to two shoe shops that are double the distance as our nearest 'good' shoe shop. My mother quizzed me mockingly the last time I got dd runners, do they not have any in your local town & I said not ones that are good enoughSmile

Last winter her boots cost €79 and they're not for any special needs pink so you didn't do badly at all.

I like startrite, geox, etc and steer clear of clarks.

ipsos · 23/09/2015 17:33

Where do you get the special shoes Pink? They sound good. I get fitted Clarks ones as indoor and ourdoor shoes for ds as I agree that they need good shoes all the time, not just for playtime. Costs a bit though. The best he ever had were croc wellies which had such a lot of space in them.

northender · 23/09/2015 17:35

We spend lots on shoes here too. We've got a fab independent shop, dd has ricosta school shoes this time. They are designed for boys I think but she loves them as they are great for playing football in at break time apparently! binglet I hope you sampled some Rattler cider, I love it. Glad to hear you've got dh on board with the frugaleering, it will make things easier for you. Sorry to hear you're struggling fuzzpig. Hope things improve soon.

My car bill was just the biggest relief. I think you get to a point where you just assume the worst & to be proved wrong was fantastic. Thanks for allowing me to vent at the time.

Have DS' first Skype review of his chest brace tonight so am feeling a little nervous. No reason to really as it seems to be going well and ds seems really committed to it.

lilacclery · 23/09/2015 17:48

north dd had pink ricosta shoes for the summer they scuffed in no time but she loved them as they were so comfy. Will keep them in mind for the the winter boots.

Was car covered by guarantee or a minor problem?

peppansalt · 23/09/2015 17:52

Checking in

needastrongone · 23/09/2015 17:52

Good luck north.

I think the cost really ratchets up when you have more than one DC and they have more than one interest/hobby. At one stage, in addition to school shoes and trainers, DS needed (and still does need) rugby boots, specific running trainers as he competes at a decent level. DD also specific track spikes, jodphurs, riding boots for jumping. Then anything they want for fashion/casual. All hail Primark for the last one Grin

All adult sizes and prices of course!!!

Lovetoknit · 23/09/2015 18:04

need the veg box is from Riverford in Devon and we should get free fruit box and cookbook with the next one. It looks really nice I just hope I can get my dc to try at least some of it.
Ds had a fair at school today instead of PE and came home with small packet of smoked bacon, which he said was delicious, yet before he wouldn't eat it at home unless it was hidden in cottage pie etc.

babsmam · 23/09/2015 18:05

Will catch up later but just to let you know morrisons have the hero, celebration, quality Street and roses 2 for £7

LittleMissLady · 23/09/2015 18:08

£47 sainsburys, £21 refund at sainsburys (returned some socks), £4 b&q. Everything essential.

I am astounded at shoe costs. DS (1) needs some and I remember paying £36 for Dd's first ones that she wore for an entire 7 weeks before out growing them. This was clarks.
I've managed to get DS some sale shoes from start rite but they are half size too big. Think he's just gonna use Dd's old baby trainers (white with blue, little bit feminine but I think ok) til he grows up to the next size.

Struggled with finding dd decent winter shoes for under £30 this year. She's only 3. Bought some nice looking ones in M&S for £26. Walkmates... Anyone heard of them? Any good?

LittleMissLady · 23/09/2015 18:09

I bought several of those tubs of chocs last year but didn't like them anymore.... They all tasted too sweet and cloying. Cadburys has changed :(

HairsprayQueen · 23/09/2015 18:12

Roses have even had to reshape their tub in at the sides where they have taken so many sweets out.

I agree that they have gone really sweet, it's a shame.

LittleMissLady · 23/09/2015 18:20

Yes! The tubs are tiny now!
My mum kept loads of the tins from over the years for storing buttons/threads/crap in and they are far far bigger!!

northender · 23/09/2015 18:21

lilac it was a minor problem and we have a great garage that looks after our cars. It's done pretty well from us over the years Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 23/09/2015 18:22

Need dd wears her school shoes 8-3:15?!

We always get decent shoes from the local indi shop.

£65 in my hand for the pushchair woo hoo!

babsmam · 23/09/2015 18:27

Phew caught up.

I see what beat me to it. Welcome back what. Be kind to yourself and I second what need said about feeding.
Right hope I get everyone.

North good news about the car.
Fuzz [[hugs]] hope work are kind to you but I know it's tough with a setback.
Hope everyone who is poorly gets well soon.
Pink Re shoes my two cost £95 and that's with no specific requirements. It's not worth imo not getting shoes right.

Ememem84 · 23/09/2015 18:27

Nsd as expected. Very productive day here!! Moved from bed. To couch. Watched a lot of Netflix. And have almost eaten 2 crackers and an apple Smile.

Drunk loads of water and have napped a lot.

Dh is home and is going to the shop in a bit to get me some sprite.

574ejones · 23/09/2015 18:38

£2 for lunch. Tomorrow I am going to hunt down a Lidl voucher!

HI again ! I just wasnt able to keep up with the last couple of threads ..
but am still here ( with slight name change after latest MN breakdown) and still frugalling , but not that sucessfully as it has been expensive month so far , and next month will be also .

Am going to France for a week , then its visitors coming the week after , a then mum's 90th (deserves big pressie and meal out I think)..and I also have to pay DS rent when he stops on JSA and Housing benefit to tide him over until he gets paid in new job ( he's not started that yet , see below) ..

Ho hum , its all in the budget , but it looks like my carefully garnered savings are about to take a massive hit! ( but then that is what savings are for, isnt it?) ..
Strange though, that now i actually have some savings (only £1200 but its taken me nearly a year to get that amount inth ebank ) I dont want to spend them...

However I've also had some 'odd' expenses' this month, new birth certificates being one ..

Did you know that if you only have the 'short' birth certificate, it doesnt do to prove 'right to work' in UK ? DS didnt have a valid passport and we never got the 'long' birth certificate, and although tha wasnt a problem before for work, new legislation means that we've had no end of trouble proving he is actually British so he can start his new job.. ( he was born in uk, parents both british and all generations past , he had nat insurance and nhs number ..No its not enough it seems!)

Grr! so now ive had to pay over £40 for birth certificates (both his and mine) , and now £75 for passport , for him so we dont have to go through all this palaver again!!)..

This is all because some MP was caught out employing a illegal resident cleaner i think.. ( anyway rant over)

Hope you all well, , I may get to read this new thread , but keeping up , who knows?
