Frugal day out, at a lovely park about 5 or 6 miles away. However, it's not walkable, as there's a dual carriageway between where we live and there. So, £12 on bus fares and £4 on ice creams. I imagine it would have been pence for petrol, but even if I could drive, I couldn't afford the cost of a car.

We have had some lovely weather for the past few days up here. Makes a nice change!

babsmam · 26/08/2015 19:17

ipsos Signed up to Upwork and did the UK Spelling Test. Only got 70% Blush good luck with the interview!

Collieputthekettleon · 26/08/2015 19:56

Public transport is £3 to go 1.5 miles here Sad

AuditAngel · 26/08/2015 20:06

Blast, just lost a long post. Will split it down

Monday is so long ago I can't remember! Tesco shop I think was £19? But could have been less. Collected the order from the Entertainer, already paid for. £1.20 parking. Also bought birthday present for DH's cousin (who is also my friend and how I got to meet DH) £28.50, which was just over my £25 planned spend, but I know she'll like it and her mum's present came in at £16 so I gained on that one

AuditAngel · 26/08/2015 20:08

Tuesday £42 buying an external hard drive and 2 USB car power adapters .

£5 on Slimming world (lost half a pound this week -must try harder)

Today £14 in Tesco for lunch/fruit/veg

Laska42 · 26/08/2015 20:08

A NSD!! Grin

My new shoes that I bought on Monday arrived.. they are very good.. (ECCO Mary-janes reduced to less than half price.) but ar emore grey than black.. however ill keep then i think, i can wear them to work
Also my new umbrella is here.. I really could have done with it today and actually wore my waterproof gardening boots into work (though took shoes with me)

What is going on with the weather ?

Anyway instead of chucking out my old mary-janes (also ECCO , leather I have washed them! I thought I might as well give it a go .. They seem ok (and no longer seem smelly..) well we shall see when they dry out..

Have made the most delish , prawn , potato and egg curry this evening .. all from stuff we had ( we have 2 sacks of home-grown potatoes).. so thats my dinner for tomorrow also .

lilacclery · 26/08/2015 20:08

No public transport here so have to drive everywhere nearest shop two miles away.

Girlie you got some great bargains
Reminded me I also need make up but not out yet. Hopefully I'll have built up at least €10 on Irish opinions by then & can use this or else might cash in some shop and scan vouchers normally don't until Christmas.

Someone on a frugal thread on roller coaster pays for Christmas from shop and scan, Irish opinions and swag bucks! Might save mine next year, just joined swag bucks this evening.

Diesel this evening €40 earnings from my class €36.25

SpottyTeacakes · 26/08/2015 20:14

Nsd.

Whatabout · 26/08/2015 20:54

£36 on pizza doe two adults. Im disgusted. We have food in, but I wasn't up to making it so DH decreed pizza as he wanted to watch a webcast. I'm disgusted by the wasteful expenditure.

Pointlessfan · 26/08/2015 21:15

I'd second M&S tights, I always get mine from there although Sainsburys are quite good too.
Today ended up quite spendy. Apart from DD's tights I bought more vinegar & bicarb for cleaning; cat food and litter then we went into town for our free John Lewis cakes and DH remembered he needed socks. To be fair he really did need them, his are more hole than sock! Plus parking I reckon I've spent nearly £30 today.
Tracked down the super absorbent door mats, they are from JML but they are currently out of stock.
Is anyone watching the Ann Robinson programme about if money makes us happy? Funnily enough I said to DH today that I've taken a massive pay cut since I had DD, gave up my additional responsibility at work and went part time but I've never been happier! The time I'm spending with my family and the relative lack of stress more than makes up for things we've had to do without.

Girlfriend36 · 26/08/2015 21:45

Blimey this programme is quite an eye opener isn't it? Shock

Whatabout · 26/08/2015 21:50

It's quite insane, £190 for sunglasses for a child. The woman shopping for cheap clothes, that used to be me. It was all about the reward of having something new. It does worry me a bit that our culture has become about buying cheap and buying more and not about being less consumerist.

sweetkitty · 26/08/2015 21:54

Another spendy day BlushBlushBlush

£14 for lunch and teas with friends
£42 in Sports Direct new trainers for DS and some running bits for me
£12 in Tesco

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/08/2015 21:55

£5.08 in asda on food bags, pork scratchings, tin foil, milk and a bottle of beer.

The beer and scratchings could have been left of the shelf really.

AdoraBell · 26/08/2015 22:13

Spent lots today, will tot up later but was pleased to find tights for school are less than half what I was paying in Chile Grin

Collieputthekettleon · 26/08/2015 22:26

£3.55 in Spar. 1 pint of milk, 2 pouches of cat food, baked beans & choc.

But I enjoyed my lovely refreshing evening walk to the shop. It rarely happens...

I think I may give Sainsbo tights a go!

I'm not watching the TV show. But I used to love the feeling of buying something new. I definitely got a kick from it. And I definitely only ever bought ill fitting cheap clothes & shoes Blush. Took me a while to learn my lesson! Sometimes I get a blip and pop in somewhere "just" to buy something new. But I usually put it back and walk away. And it is usually clothes. One time I bought a dress in Primark and 3 years later New Look was using exactly the same fabric / design for a vest top.

I'm quite good at not buying plastic tat though. my previous jobs have made me too familiar with manufacturing processes & prices on various things. I can walk into a shop and say "These cost £2.33 to make and ship to the UK. So I'm not paying £15 for it!"

AdoraBell · 27/08/2015 00:20

Spotty and ipsos good luck with the jobs.

I haven't tried our local public transport yet, DDs can put up with shopping in the nearest town, and the excerise is doing us all good Grin a little over 7km walked today just going in, short mooch round and back home. Will need to get sorted out soon though for school.

So, spends, £80 on underwear for new school year, then another £51 on M&S website as local one didn't have what DD2 needs. Then another £134 on sports bras for both. I bought 4 each because the last 4 weeks we've had so much rain that I've had to dry things inside. This house already has some mold spots Hmm I think because all the vents over the windows were closed when we moved in. We think the previous owners possibly never opened them. There's no space for either a spin drier or tumble drier.

DDs start school next week, we applied for paid places on the school bus, got 1 so far.

DD1 still needs a school bag, I refused to spend £50 on a leather backpackHmm and apparently there's nothing else she's willing to use. I'm sure I'seethed the one she had in Chile actualy so she could use that.

Morning all. I've had a.fairly low cost few days. I've been ekeing out food in fridge/cupboards and doing free/cheap activities with dd (including Ikea breakfast and children's centre fun day) However today I am planning to spend! I have someone coming to clear out gutters which will be ?40 and then I'm off to town to buy some clothes. All have been considered and budgeted for. I've assessed my wardrobe and worked out where the gaps are. I will visit primark for some cheap vests but am planning on heading up M&S for some navy brogues! I'm going child-free and plan to treat myself to lunch out too - last free day of the holidays! x

needastrongone · 27/08/2015 08:15

The lady on that programme incensed me for some reason. What a way to bring up her DC Angry That consumable items are key.

DD gets probably way more than that spent on her with the pony, but in return, she has to spend the best part of 2 hours a day caring for said pony. Every day. Rain or shine. Winter and summer. And balance her school work. That's the deal.

NSD yesterday.

ursula The Primark vests are actually pretty good quality, not the actual cheapest ones they sell, but the next ones along the price line, so to speak! Enjoy your day.

lilacclery · 27/08/2015 08:24

what channel was tv show on? Might try find it on catchup tv.

My wages are less this week than usual so I plan not to spend any money at all other than joint expenses. I've diesel bought & will buy the Sat newspaper for €1.30 as I love the magazine in it. Anything I have will be needed next week for my nct & I've a workshop in the next county next weekend which will probably involve lunch/supper out.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/08/2015 08:50

Bbc one lila.
