Nope we don't earn enough to buy a house for £250k (cheapest three beds anywhere round here)

TheOnlyPink · 24/07/2015 18:55

spotty so sorry to hear about the house, that's really shit.

fuzz so sorry to hear you aren't well Flowers

playinghouse Thanks so much for your tips on the aldi uniform.

I can only get the trousers as Ds1 wears red shirts and has crested jumper and tracksuit, so think I will stick with the tried and tested €4 ones from dunnes!

NK5BM3 · 24/07/2015 20:13

Frugal fail - ordered a Pizza Hut delivery. First time in 4 years though. £17.

Spotty - thanks. Might go for the network rail card. Should I be cheeky and get work to pay for it?!!

Still have another 2 weeks at work before I take leave. Argh.

girliefriend · 24/07/2015 20:42

Fuzz sorry you are not feeling well, your boss sounds about as sympathetic as mine Hmm

Have managed a nsd, it has been chucking it down all day so dd didn't have the best of days at her outdoors holiday club! I am now work free for 3 whole weeks Shock this is the first time in 9 years I have had 3 weeks of annual leave - amazing!!

Myturnnow4 · 24/07/2015 21:06

Congratulations on the low spending everyone and commiserations to those having difficult days.

I was NSD until I spent £1.30 on (generic) sleeping tablets and £1 on a small apple sponge.

Evilwater · 24/07/2015 21:18

Right my hoilday is over, Sad
So back to saving.
My money has come through from ex's house. That's 20k it's still not enough to but a place Sad honestly at this rate I'll need to cash buy a place. Sad
The other option is a new job, but that is difficult. I'd have to leave, as I can't go any further up the ladder unless I go to uni for 3 years, and I CANT afford that. Sad

So, save save save. Or win the lottery.
Hm...... Confused

girliefriend · 24/07/2015 21:22

20k is a decent sum evil did you see if there are any shared ownership places near you?

TV is seriously rubbish tonight think I may have to go to bed!!

Girlie living in the SW, prices are sky high. In fact almost as bad as London, yes I have and some of them are too expensive.

My great grandfather (and many of my family) lived in polpero, his house was held by wooden beams next to the river which was the only sewerage. Now it's worth millions (no, he didn't sell it for millions, he lost it in the 1930) Don't ask why it's costs so much, they only got the road in around 1960/1970.
Many of the villages in the SW are empty in the winter, it's a massive problem, as us Locals can't afford to stay in the places where our families have lived for generations.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/07/2015 21:47

Sorry you are having a rough day, fuzzpig. I've been there and it isn't a nice feeling.

Does anyone here work for the nhs? If you have, have you used the cash back card? I'm wondering if there is any sort of catch?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/07/2015 21:50

Second homes and retirees, evil. The housing where I am isn't too badly priced compared to the rest of the SW. The council tax is high though.

Evilwater · 24/07/2015 21:54

rafa I work in the nhs, what card????

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/07/2015 22:10

Are you registered with nhs discounts? Rather than the vouchers they used to do they seem to have come up with a cash back card. 2.99 for the initial outlay, then you just top it up and use it in shops restaurants etc. then they pay cash back onto the card. I'm just not sure if there's a catch.

Looking at the weather today it's bleak and depressing in season. I had to turn the lights back on at 10am.

SpottyTeacakes · 25/07/2015 05:51

Indian was more expensive than I expected. £10.25 for a starter, side and two popadoms. Was very nice though. I had tap water to save money too.

Food shopping being delivered today.

Ds got up at 4:50. I'm not impressed especially as I didn't get home until 10:30 (late for me!). Dh, of course, is still in bed Angry

ipsos, our strategy is to talk openly about money, and about how expensive things are. But mostly to avoid Argos etc. Grin. We also have some success with saying Well, that's a big present, maybe for your birthday (generally forgotten), and That's very expensive, we'll have to check how much it is on the Internet (again, generally forgotten).

I just don't think that they have the understanding at that age though (4 in our case).

ipsos I tried to avoid as much as possible trigger situations such as Argos. My DC were little when we had no money and DH had just started the business. I did used to take them to a big outlet shopping park that was always quiet and outside too, we would walk round, have a coffee, a play at the park and they could choose something small from the toy shop (usually Thomas the Tank toys).

fuzz sorry that you are not feeling so good Flowers

spotty Don't quote me, but I think maybe this recent budget announced changes to eligibility for buying for HA tenants? Google 'right to acquire'.

Yesterday I spent £21 at Home Bargains on various cleaning items and cosmetics. I also withdrew £100 in cash. DD did a small show jumping session at a fiver and I bought a bacon buttie as I was starving!!

Will be £110 richer this month in lower livery fees and insurance.

Housing costs round here are high too. We have done well out of property and it does put you further up the ladder more through luck than judgement. Our first house together was a 4 bed detached in a lovely village for £90k, bought in a trough and sold when prices were crazy for £250k, 5 years later. Which enabled us to push on. Didn't make much on the next house but we should have stretched ourselves further. This current one we did increase the mortgage significantly (by over £100k) but again, so we did chance our arms more, and we've been lucky again.

needastrongone · 25/07/2015 08:45

collie Terrible!!!!
