Everybody is welcome.

Any chance you have an ear/throat/chest infection? I thought I had flu once with a temp like that. Dd was a baby and I couldn't even pick her up, turned out I had a severe ear infection and didn't even realise.

574ejones · 29/01/2015 21:10

Can't believe anyone could spend £230 a week on food ( Eat well for less), I have never spent that much on food, even in the run up to Christmas! I would be wanting champagne for that!

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2015 21:14

I'm not sure I could spend that much?! Maybe as a one off but I just cannot imagine it!

NK5BM3 · 29/01/2015 21:17

Oh I think it could be tonsillitis. I've always been prone to that. I did actually go to the clinic today as I had an asthma clinic but of course I couldn't possibly see the doctor.... Confused I hate this system. It would have taken less than 3 min to stick a lolly stick in and check my throat, write a prescription and off I'd go.

Of course the nurse couldn't do much beyond write me the prescription for my inhalers. We shall see. If I'm really crap tomorrow I'll be going to the doctors.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2015 21:25

This eat well for less program...they are not eating well!! They get through 24 sausages a week (family of four) eat burgers, loads of orange juice, beer etc etc so they're not showing them to eat well they're just showing them how to eat cheaper.

Laska42 · 29/01/2015 21:47

yerch.. sounds foul (eat well prog..) .
Also poor NK [flowers}..

(I also have sore throat and feeling chesty .. looks like i may have DS cold on the way. Bah, just in time for weekend).. have had to self medicate WineGrin

Off to bed now i think... ( with tea!)

AdoraBell · 29/01/2015 22:22

NSD

Passthecake30 · 29/01/2015 22:23

NK poor youFlowers I had the 39.4temp all day tues but luckily seem to be over the worst. Hopefully my cough/cold won't hit my asthma like the previous one that took 5 weeks to shift.

£8 on dd hair.

Eat well for less; interesting, but I didn't learn anything. Thou now have an intense desire to add up the value of the contents of my cupboards. ..food and toiletries...I don't stock pile to the extreme but I do make use if multibuys and offers so I recon it would total £400-£500ish? (ignoring the booze stocks that didn't deplete at xmas)

northender · 30/01/2015 00:12

Posting now as I can't sleep for coughing at the moment. Thanks To all those not feeling well.
Today has been LSD. £3 on dd's hockey, £7 on a thermal type headband for her and that's it I think. £57 on a coat for ds but it's been budgeted for so not counted.
Dh is away on the train tomorrow with work. Going to do him poached eggs for brekkie to divert him from bacon butty temptation on the train. He'll also take a flask of coffee with him and a packed lunch so probably the best part of £10 saved. I've got a day off tomorrow but am going to a Jacobs Join lunch for a colleagues retirement. Will make something to take, have got some roasted veg in the freezer from summer so could do couscous.

babsmam · 30/01/2015 06:14

Oh dear NK hope you get sorted todayor feel better.

Eat well for less is just Martin money savers downshift challenge isn't it under a different guise?

LSD today as back to work after tonsillitis. Have lotto to pay and beavers but less than a tenner all in

babsmam · 30/01/2015 06:15

Hope all other ill folk start to feel better soon

confusedandemployed · 30/01/2015 06:33

Hope everyone with the lurgy is on the mend today Flowers

Eat Well For Less: they spent £260 in one week. I spend less than that in a month on food (OK admittedly it's just us and nearly 2yo DD, plus 2 dogs with expensive tastes). I could've live for months off what was hoarded in their cupboards although it was all processed so I wouldn't really want to
I found it fascinating that people approach food like this, though. I can't imagine it. Hoping I'm not sounding too smug, I used to be a bit of a spendthrift food-wise but never that bad.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/01/2015 06:37

Confused dh and I said we could survive a month on what they already had in! I think you should be smug tbh, imagine all the waste they must have and the poor shopping/eating habits they're showing their dc. It wouldn't be bad at all if a, they were buying decent quality stuff and b, they were actually using it.

northender · 30/01/2015 07:20

Agree re that programme. I found it astounding that they seemed to be so unaware of what they were doing. Did laugh when he slated the cheap and nasty jam which was in fact their usual brand.
Dh has gone off to the train with flask and bottle of water in hand having had breakfast, job done!

fuzzpig · 30/01/2015 07:22

Yesterday:
29/1
£7.39 coop
£9.40 taxi (a couple of quid more than usual - won't be using that company again! Angry)
£1.20 bus

Pointlessfan · 30/01/2015 07:25

Hope everyone is feeling better today.
I watched that programme last night and commented to DH that if they really wanted to save money they would learn to cook from scratch, use things like pulses or cheaper cuts of meat and use leftovers. We do a lot of that so that we can have the posh teabags and nice cheese as those are things we really enjoy. We also both love craft beers and real ales which can be expensive so we only buy them occasionally as a treat and do without the rest of the time.
Jamie Oliver gets on my nerves but I thought his money saving series was better from an eating well point of view.

Taytocrisps · 30/01/2015 07:31

I haven't seen 'Eat well for less' and now I'm curious. I love 'Extreme Couponing' but I find myself wondering if they end up wasting some of the products they buy. Also they seem to buy a lot of processed food - you never see them buying fruit and veg. They make fantastic savings but I don't think I could spend 10 or 12 hours doing my supermarket shop.

Hope all our sick posters are feeling better today.

We had lots of snow and sleet showers last night and there was a ferocious wind. Very relieved to wake up to normality today and to find that the snow and sleet has all melted. If there'd been a frosty night, the roads and paths would have been lethal this morning!

Pointlessfan · 30/01/2015 07:53

I know what you mean about Extreme Couponing, it seems,to me they get all that stuff to prove that they can. I only see something as a saving if I would have bought it anyway e.g. 2 packs of nappies for a tenner. Even then I might stock up a bit but I wouldn't buy 50 packs or anything like that - where would I put them?!

Ememem84 · 30/01/2015 09:32

Morning. Today should be an NSD. the weather is awful and it's going to be an indoors day

caught the end of eat well for less last night but have just found it on the iplayer so will be watching with interest later.

lilacclery · 30/01/2015 10:30

Purse: €1.78 - 68c stamp = €1.10
Bank: €94.47 - €40 = €44.47

Went to pay second car tax this morning and it wouldn't go through turns out interest etc had been added to credit card since I made last payment so I hadn't enough before my limit to pay it. Paid €40 from my debit card so will be able to pay car tax. Will put €20 diesel in car and get €20 cashback for beauticans, I can use my Unislim float of €50 if I need spends on Sat night or Sun. And I want to avoid that! This will leave a balance of €4.47 in my account which I may coin sweep.

My credit card will be up to the max again but now that my tax credits are sorted I'll be able to tackle that.

My current outside debt is Littlewoods, Credit Card A & B and Credit Union Loan. The Credit Union Loan is under control and paid by standing order weekly. Littlewoods stands at €130.22, I aim to clear that this month by weekly standing order also and this will leave me with the two credit cards to focus on.

Encyclo Enjoy this new chapter in your life
What channel was this programme on Eat Well for Less? I'll see can I find it on catch up.

Commiserations to all that are feeling under the weather, plenty of hot drinks and good tv x

NK5BM3 · 30/01/2015 10:38

Got an app with the dr today. Still feel shite. Throat has like razor blades. Shivering.

Did watch 'eat well for less' (it's on BBC Iplayer) and I'm so glad about all the solutions because that's what most of us already do! Although they couldn't quite recommend that the families should shop at Aldi/lidl!!! Grin

I think the general pointers are there: shop for what you need, run down your cupboards, we can splash out on things that are worth it (eg meat from butchers which actually cost less than the supermarkets anyway!) and swap one brand down to see if we can taste the difference...

NK5BM3 · 30/01/2015 13:29

Back now. £8.05 for antibiotics. £6 at sainsburys (having taken £12.50 off in points). Everything was from the shopping list. Still have a few things to get but we can get that on weekend hopefully when the meds kick in!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 30/01/2015 13:47

£2 Sainsburys today Smile
£44.85 MOT
£30 Car tax
