Stampeding through a sensible, scrimping September!

Thought I'd do the honours Smile

With kids back at school and autumn weather drawing in we all need a very sensible September. I'm putting up my thermal curtains and refusing to put on the heating until October. Who's in?

fanta I wish dd would swallow a tablet, no chance though. She is 8yo and couldn't even swallow the tiny anti histamines she was prescribed over the summer! Annoyingly she will also make a huge fuss if I buy the own brand equivalent as well, it is worth paying the bit extra so I don't get all the ear ache Grin

We are both feeling bit better now drugged up though so money well spent.

Just realised dd has a school disco on Wed which is £2 - I may well have to raid her money box for that Blush

Got some news from CT scan... No obvious abscesses or sources of infection within the scar tissue but more worryingly the lymph nodes in my small bowel are inflamed and there also seems to be a problem with the blood supply to that area and some thickening to the bowel itself which they aren't happy about. All the fluid they found and drained in August is back too.
So being kept in for more tests tomorrow and trying unsuccessfully not to catastrophise this. Sad

Oh MissA poor you Sad you must be exhausted from all of this, not to mention the awful food! Thanks

Badvoc123 · 15/09/2014 20:57

Oh missa :( your poor thing.
Thinking of you x

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/09/2014 21:01

Oh no, I was hoping it would be something simple.

Write down all the questions you have with space for the answers, otherwise you forget.

AuditAngel · 15/09/2014 21:35

MissA sorry to hear you're still not mended!

£1.50 to park to drop off DS for the theatre today.

£10 to my mum, she bought 4 flowers I needed for DD1's dancing costume. I need 1 more.

Mojito100 · 15/09/2014 22:27

Take care MissA

chocolatedonut · 16/09/2014 01:29

Spent £6 on a book for DH.

Payday next week thank goodness. Although it will be 5 weeks until my next pay after that Confused Hard work making your wage (that barely sees you through a normal month) last that extra week.

Thinking of you missa, it really is horrible being in hospital Thanks

Bantamgirl- I like the way you have separate budgets for things. I'm going to try that next month.

AdoraBell · 16/09/2014 02:48

Sorry it's not the moré simple options MissA hope they get you sorted very soon.

Spent £85 today, £20 of that was pocket money DD2 spent on Chocs -£5, then £15 on paraphanalia that DD1 is convinced she needs. She's at that acné and "OMG I have hairs on my legsShock " stage. I still need honey to make granola and flapjacks but will get that tomorrow.
DD2 will need some cash to go the cinema with the boy friend on Friday. He says his parents will pay for her but both she and I think she at léast needs To pay for popcorn/drinks. DD1 just wants money To go shopping with friends.

Girliefriend hope both you and DD get better soon.

NK5BM3 · 16/09/2014 07:31

Take care MissA. Sounds really rubbish.

Spent £1.50 on haribo for my students. Also spent £35 on dinner but that's claimable.

Badvoc123 · 16/09/2014 11:56

Am so cross.
Have had to open an unpaid item case on ebay. First time ever :(
So have re listed the item.
Had to buy Dh some shoelaces...50p.
Other than that should be a nsd.

Hello, I'm new to the thread and thought I'd join in because I could really do with some money-saving ideas! Going PT in November, giving up a well-paid FT job to spend a bit more time at home (and with DD). We will be trying to live on about 1000 less so I'm on a mission to save money, make do and mend and just be frugal!

I had to go to my cousin's wedding in Essex on the weekend (we live in Swansea). Luckily my dad drove and paid for Dsis and my hotel room, breakfast, taxi to the venue - well basically everything. I took 70 with me and came back with 60! Well chuffed with that - thanks mainly to Daddykins. Yesterday I put 30 petrol in my car, leaving me with 30 in my purse. It's still there...

Am unable to batch cook very much as our kitchen is falling to pieces. No oven, 3 gas rings don't work...Thankfully DP has just come in to a little bit of money, so kitchen will be in working order in November.

I've just switched to Aldi / Lidl, wow what a saving. Haven't found anything we don't like yet either.

I've cancelled the gym and now buy all my clothes from charity shops.

I do surveys and use the vouchers for treats for all of us.

Hoping for some ideas as to how I can keep on my austerity drive.

MissA I'm sorry to hear you're not well. I really hope you're on the mend soon.

ItalianWiking84 · 16/09/2014 12:37

MissA sorry to hear, hope you will have a quick recovery...
Dp birthday today so having guests tonight so just did the shopping. Was 45£ so not to bad. Have saved 620£ so fare this month and have 200£ left which should be enough.
Welcome to any newbies Thanks

listsandbudgets · 16/09/2014 13:43

Sorry you're not well MissA. I hope they manage to sort you out quickly.

I tried to post yesterday but for some reason its not showing.

Yesterday spent £54.67 in Aldi. Quite a lot but should cover us until the middle of next week though sure to need a top up of fruit, bread and milk. Also spent £3.50 at lunch as I forgot my packed lunch. Lesson learnt Grin

So far today has been a NSD but I know I've got to get a couple of things i forgot in Aldi yesterday - natural yogurt and milk

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 16/09/2014 14:13

£8 spend today. Completely unnecessary, but that's it for this week.

Mojito100 · 16/09/2014 14:15

Wow. This fortnights pay and my share dividend have gone up in smoke and I still have a week to go before next pay. $300 gone today just in medical expenses for DS. Feel like I went backwards big time.

confusedandemployed · 16/09/2014 14:24

Just bought DD a new jumper from the charity shop - 1 and badly needed. New wellies too - 1 won't mention the 6 I spent on clothes for myself

CoolCadbury · 16/09/2014 14:27

Welcome all newcomers. And hello everyone else.

MissA sorry to hear that you are not well and hope that the medical team can sort the problems out quickly.

So, my back pain is slowly getting better but I am having problems managing the pain so I need to go back to the doctors about it - in fact, I am waiting a call back from the practice manager as I have been unhappy with how it has been dealt with. I did work half a day last week but barely managed it and had to cancel another day's work as I knew I could not manage a whole day.

So this month so far, I have spent £80 on birthday presents for family as well as £38 on prescriptions and other meds. I have still to sort out DS's friends birthday present & card (£10) and £40 for gardeners. Apart from the meds, everything else had been budgetted for in YNAB so I still feel under control. Somewhat.

ItalianWiking84 · 16/09/2014 15:08

Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought med were free in UK? It was when I lived in Scotland...

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/09/2014 15:22

Free in Scotland and Wales but only kids, elderly and certain long term medical conditions or some benefit recipients in England.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/09/2014 15:39

Nsd so far but need petrol again after putting £30 in on Saturday. Ffs.

furcoatbigknickers · 16/09/2014 15:53

£5 creche, £6 something on dw tablets, jam and marmalade.

Went to gym this morning, came home for lunch and went to the park with ds before school finished!

listsandbudgets · 16/09/2014 16:10

Just popped out for yogurt 55p. While there I noticed andrex on special offer and got 18 rolls. It was £7.55 altogether but I had a £1 voucher so £6.55. They gave me another £1 voucher against my next shop over £5 at the till as well.

At least we won't need any more toilet roll for a while.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/09/2014 16:27

£13 on another reed diffuser, lots have gone since yesterday, At that price it would be rude not to buy one.

£10 petrol.

£6 top up shop, I am judging myself for that £6. Obviously I messed up a bit this week.

Fur, have you tried tesco daisy brand dw powder? A box lasts me 9 months for under £5 and our dw goes on every day. They aren't tested on animals either.

My eBay jeans arrived, they are fab. I was debating buying a new pair at £40 but these were the same for £15!.

Sixforgold · 16/09/2014 16:38

missa and cool you are absolute troopers - the slightest pain/illness has me throwing the budget out of the window! Hope you're both feeling much better soon.

£40 on petrol yesterday. We're staying at home for the next two weekends so I'm hoping this lasts as it's all we have left budgeted for.

£4.50 on lunch today - I forgot mine too lists so annoying!!! I did get a few bits from Aldi for that though which should cover me for lunch for the rest of the week.
