Thought I'd do the honours Smile

With kids back at school and autumn weather drawing in we all need a very sensible September. I'm putting up my thermal curtains and refusing to put on the heating until October. Who's in?

Hi fluffy
Yes, I got sent the regular email about what offers there are on tcb. One of which was the insurance one. The one I used previously to get a free Lego movie DVD for example directed me straight to amazon etc and it all worked quite easily. This one doesn't seem to allow (according to the dh, who to be fair, isn't very good at this sort of thing).... I'll go check it out again myself!

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/09/2014 07:38

Try going directly through the website instead and using a laptop/PC not a tablet.

Have you tried Aviva? Or putting an older relative on as a named driver?.

We used to do that.

lilacclery · 13/09/2014 08:09

Have been missing for a few days & just caught up on thread now.
peonies sorry to hear you're under the weather again.

Spendy weekend for me, €200 to plastic weld and respray my car's back bumper - paying attention to dd instead of my reversing was an expensive mistake. Turned out it had been broken before & not fixed correctly so thats why there was so much damage from a little bang.
Some of you might remember I'd been saving towards a new car & dh hadn't so at least the moneys there ???? had intended it going against my credit card though.
Hairdressers for easi meche highlights €55 + ,€5 tip
Takeaway twice
Speaking of cc debt, have discovered my bank is now offering a save & borrow system, save minimum €70 for 6 months & then borrow 4 times that for very small interest going to do that to clear & close one credit card.

€65 today on 8 weeks swimming lessons, €20 on a photo shoot including 2,108 prints & 4 57 - good deal, might be able to use some for Christmas presents, dd needs new shoes & runners wearing a 10 & measured last week at 11.5! Will get shoes today as having a €10 giftcard.

Got a €30 gift card for a hairdressers for having good numbers at my classes all summer long, at chain it'll probably just cover wash & blowdry but will be a nice treat.

Grocery shopping should be less as we didnt use much meat this week plus dss has finally moved out so that'll help too!!

Sorry for long post

furcoatbigknickers · 13/09/2014 11:06

Hoping today will be nsd. When i get out of my pit, i will be getting dh and dcs to help with housework for a couple of hours. Then taking dd3 swimming at my gym (already paid for)

Im also hoping we make a trip to the skip

Iamnotanugget · 13/09/2014 12:26

east I was hoping to keep the heating off until at least October but it was cold when I got up this morning so I'm not sure we'll manage it.

list you made me smile. I remember becoming a sixer many, many, many moons ago. I loved brownies and was very proud to be 'promoted'.

Today is going to be expensive as I have my Dsis visiting so we'll go out somewhere this afternoon and I'll buy dinner later. Will make sure tomorrow is nsd.

The wedding list on on a weird site that lists things the couple want from various companies and breaks them into chunks. So for example if they wanted a £100 bedspread from Debenham then it would display it as costing 10 X £10 so you can pick how many chunks to buy and they'll also have stuff from John Lewis etc. It's a good idea in many ways as people who don't know each other can club together for big items but, like cash, it's really obvious what you've not spent!

Badvoc123 · 13/09/2014 12:31

Fanta...that pretty much what I am doing :) but I am doing 2 and sandwiching them together and then decorating
Am also going to make some cupcakes.

Badvoc123 · 13/09/2014 12:33

Have spent £40 at the co op today :(
But that includes some stuff for ds2s party next week.
And carpet cleaner....£4!!
and a take away cappuccino £3

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 13/09/2014 13:20

I've got a little help to reinforce not turning on the heater - we're waiting for the council to come out and inspect the radiators and possibly replace a couple. So no using them until they come out. Hope it's soon though - I don't want to be waiting on a radiator in cold weather!

NSD other than a bill paid online, so according to budget. I don't anticipate any spends until Wednesday when I need to pay parking for an appointment.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/09/2014 13:29

£3.40 on two LED lightbulbs. Nearly done the whole house, they are coming from china so it will take weeks.

I only bought them so I could tick it off my list.....

furcoatbigknickers · 13/09/2014 13:40

Dh had asked me to get milk and cream when out later

FantaSea · 13/09/2014 13:57

badvoc your cake sounds great - two sandwiched together would be better as then the cake would be taller, mine were always a bit flat! I am not sure, but could you use the same cake mixture for the cupcakes? Just make a bit extra?

I am hoping for a NSD today Smile

NK5BM3 · 13/09/2014 14:38

£45 at waitrose (was £55 but had £10 voucher). And then £43 at Aldi for the rest of our shop. In hindsight, I should have gone to Aldi first, get all the stuff, then go to waitrose to get the treats. Oh well lesson learnt.

These shops included stuff for Dd's party next weekend like icing and cake stuff which Aldi doesn't have.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 13/09/2014 15:01

I had three NSDs this week but got to Thursday and since then have spent close to £100 Blush Got a back payment of £713 from Housing benefit which was very nice and will be getting £41 p/w from now on. This won't last for long though as I will be starting my new job in about 8 weeks and there is a £6k per year pay rise so HB will go. My partner has made me loads of goulash which is in the freezer for lunches next week. Going to aim for at least 3 NSDs next week.

northender · 13/09/2014 15:13

MissA sorry you're not feeling great, hope you get it sorted soon.
Have done really well this week, started using up freezer/store cupboard food, still lots to go. Going for tea to my aunty's tonight. She doesn't want us to take anything as we've fed her many times but I'd like to take something so i'm trying slow cooker fudge which seems to be the in thing on the Slow Cooked Wonders fb page. It's not especially frugal as the ingredients aren't cheap but if it works then it will be great for the dc to make and package up for Christmas presents.
We work on a weekly budget (Thursday to Wednesday) and ended last week well under, hope to do the same this week although not likely to have as big a surplus. With a bit more hard work we may be overdraft free at the end of this month woohoo! Just the credit card to go then.......

Mojito100 · 13/09/2014 15:26

Has a few NsD's this week but on the days that weren't it was expensive. Had a couple of wins as my niece babysat last night and didn't want me to pay her. It's her birthday soon so I'll make up for it then. Was supposed to catch up with friend for coffee today but she was late so saved there too. Spent more than I thought on weekly grocery shop which was disappointing but did stick to my shopping list so happy with that. Expect NSD tomorrow and aiming for 3

lilacclery · 13/09/2014 15:41

nk5bm3 I used to get caught like that all the time but religiously go to aldi first or else stick to list at Tesco with stuff that can't be bought in aldi & leave cards in car & just take cash!

northender I've been watching that fudge on slow cooker saddos Facebook page do tell how it turns out!

Got started today with Christmas in a way...kids had a portrait session which including 16 57 photos & 3 108 cost me less than €30.

Bought dd runners using €10 voucher so €25.

Lunch out was a splurge but saved my sanity, with an extra child in tow. Have 3 slices of pizza to take home with us so thats their supper sorted. Taco fries for the adults.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/09/2014 16:11

£1 bottle of water

FREE entry for all of us to Leeds castle

girliefriend · 13/09/2014 17:09

NSD Smile

NK5BM3 · 13/09/2014 18:00

A further £10 at garden centre but it was for grass seed that's needed for some bare patches in garden.

MissA hope they manage to sort out your back. A colleague of mine had an op last year and it seems to have helped. Although she's still not pain free. Another friend is like mr bionic man having had plates in his neck and knee! But he's totally pain free.

NK5BM3 · 13/09/2014 18:02

Lilac - yeah I made that mistake a few weeks back with Sainsburys. I did manage to limit the waitrose spend to that amount. The cake stuff was something like £10!! No point beating myself over it. I'm going to be v frugal after dd birthday party next weekend!

ItalianWiking84 · 13/09/2014 19:50

25 pounds in lidl and 5 £ in another supermarket (mainly bought diapers and wipes)
4£ on nuts at a local market

listsandbudgets · 13/09/2014 21:15

99p for a loaf of fresh bread and £3 for a box of 240 teabags.

Nearly had to buy more fizzy stuff for DD as she got her LAMDA result earlier in the post and it was a Distinction. Shes having a good 24 hours :)

Frugal win - dd decided to make her friend a birthday card rather than buying her one.

oneofthosedays · 13/09/2014 22:32

£20 today at asda for tea, treats for our park trip and a present for my niece's baby.

Hoping for a nsd tomorrow, blackberry picking with the kids!

chocolatedonut · 14/09/2014 00:52

Spent £25 on random bits for the house (not needed) and some things for DD (again not needed).

£31 on groceries to be delivered Monday.

Made a chicken curry in slow cooker today which has gone straight in the freezer for a meal next week.

Going for lunch tomorrow but shouldn't cost much.

Almost 2 full weeks of September gone and haven't spent anywhere near as much as I usually do!

AdoraBell · 14/09/2014 02:31

£6 on immodiam for DH and toothpaste. DH bought lunch and clothes for DDs. Will need groceries on Monday. DDs on holiday, nothing planned as yet other than BBQ at home Thursday.
