Stampeding through a sensible, scrimping September!

Thought I'd do the honours Smile

With kids back at school and autumn weather drawing in we all need a very sensible September. I'm putting up my thermal curtains and refusing to put on the heating until October. Who's in?

FRUGAL FAIL Sad went to amend my ocado order last night and they wouldn't let me! I forgot it's not like tesco where you can amend up until the night before.

AuditAngel · 14/09/2014 08:59

Yesterday £33 in Asda, but that included £10 on bits DD2 wanted for her birthday next month. £8 in the £ shop, went in there for some flowered hair bands DD1 needs for dancing, could only get one, so had to go to another branch, £5 and only got another 2! Free parking first place £1 in second.

£6 on immodium and toothpaste?

You can get 6 loperamide (which is what immodium is) for £1.99 in morrisons and boots. Immodium is really expensive so I would only ever buy in an emergency, otherwise get the non brand version which is the same but cheaper. I have IBS so always have a stash ready!!

I bought a large colgate recently in poundstretchers for 56p.

Don't know if this is something anyone else does but anything in a tin I add water to (or milk if it is a white sauce/ rice pudding) to make it go further. This includes baked beans and soups. Never noticed any difference in taste.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/09/2014 10:02

Adoras not in the EU, things are more expensive for her generally.

ItalianWiking84 · 14/09/2014 10:09

Ooh dangerous Italianwiking! Luckily Ikea is a long journey for us 4.5 hours so never tempted.

ItalianWiking84 · 14/09/2014 11:32

AuditAngel · 14/09/2014 11:39

£4.90 today for 2 certificates and badges as DD1 has moved up a level at swimming. I forgot to collect DS's new school trousers and track suit bottoms from M&S so heed to do that tomorrow.

girliefriend · 14/09/2014 12:19

I have never come out of ikea without spending about £100 Shock

I don't go anymore Grin

Taytocrisps · 14/09/2014 12:22

Weren't August and September so expensive with all the Back to School expenses? I say it every year but I've no idea how my parents managed it with 5 of us! We've only one DC. Luckily DH got a timely bonus which got us through it all. Thinking ahead to the next big expense now - Christmas. DH gets really annoyed when I mention the C word in September. If it was left to him, he would probably start his Christmas shopping on the 20th December and then wonder why the Toy Shop shelves were all empty Smile.

NK5BM3 · 14/09/2014 12:47

Paid £107 for language classes for ds. Got some hand me downs for the children from a lady at church who's got slightly older grand kids. Fab.

Oh and £6 at charity shop for something I wanted for dd's party. I saw a v similar thing going at Aldi that would be on sale this Thursday for a few quid more so that's great. Helps the shop. Helps me. Sorts dd out. Smile

ItalianWiking84 · 14/09/2014 14:14

FantaSea · 14/09/2014 15:18

lists well done to your DD on her distinction Smile

Tayto it is always so expensive in the back to school stuff. My DD is 18 now so hopefully I wont be buying too much from now on. One thing I discovered is to keep a box of 'leftovers' - pens, pencils, tippex, folders, staples, paper, all the things left over in each packet, and I am in charge of this and keep it in my room! I found if I didn't get a grip on all the stuff it would all be in use at the same time, and then get lost and then more new stuff would be requested. I found it much more frugal to check the spare box rather than just buy a whole new set of everything.

ohhelp teachers really work hard and the work done out of school is often never acknowledged.

fur get well soon Flowers

fluffy sorry about your cat, poor little thing Flowers

NSD yesterday and today I might need to pop out and get a loaf from the corner shop for tea tonight.

Mojito100 · 14/09/2014 15:42

NSD today. I just sorted out my tax and that has also helped motivate me to stay on top of spending. I record my expenditure on a spreadsheet and take it off receipts and my bank statements. Unfortunately I don't do it frequently enough as if I did I would have realised how truly out of whack my spending is. I'm going to be more diligent with this and also being on here keeps it front if mind.

Do any of you track your spending and if so how. Any tips you have are appreciated.

furcoatbigknickers · 14/09/2014 15:58

Ive just spent £47 on groceries online. Hopefully I won't need to top up too much.

AdoraBell · 14/09/2014 16:09

girliefriend I'm in Latin America, wish I could get it in Morrisons.

So, yoghurt I bought on Thursday is sour and it's a 30km round trip to take it bake, so I was wondering if anyone has ideas what I can cook with a kilo of sour yoghurt please.
