Stampeding through a sensible, scrimping September!

Thought I'd do the honours Smile

With kids back at school and autumn weather drawing in we all need a very sensible September. I'm putting up my thermal curtains and refusing to put on the heating until October. Who's in?

Hi Wirecat, you are welcome to sit on the Tim bench reserve team with me!
Welcome aboard matie. Work gets in the way of my mumsnetting, lol.
NSD for tuesday and wednesday, 62p on a stamp for DS UNi form today yey!

TimBurgessILoveYourSmile · 11/09/2014 18:10

Excuse my Typo's I was so excited that Wirecat is a Tim fanatic, lol

girliefriend · 11/09/2014 18:13

Well my kitten is home, came to £64 in the end which about what I thought, poor thing is looking might sorry for herself though!

I have signed her up to a pet plan thing which is £10 a month but covers all flea and worming treatment plus boosters and a health check up yearly, it works out a cheaper way of doing it. Would always get the cats boosters done as you can't put them in the cattery if they are over due plus the pet insurance won't cover them.

NSD. ...woo hoo go me!

I have a 2nd interview for a job close to home rather than a 1h10mins £20+ commute. ...fingers x.

needastrongone · 11/09/2014 18:31

fluffy - Yes, I was aware. Thanks. Some will be me overestimating our usage when we switched. Some was a long standing mistake from about a year ago by the supplier, which is too boring to go into. And, some will be build up from the summer months and mild winter. I just left it at where it was the direct debit, a sort of savings policy against a very cold winter, just wasn't aware it was quite that much, or I would definitely have done something about it by then Smile

Ironically, they dropped the direct debit significantly last month, which I hadn't realised (the long story referred to above if partly in ref to me never receiving correspondence via email, complaint etc), which means I have a little more cash in my pocket this month!

Wow funny to read how different schools work from country to country. Here in dk only max 22 pupils per class and schools have usually 2 classes per year... And we stay in the sane school until we finish with year 10 and then thereafter high school ect.

Sixforgold · 11/09/2014 19:30

Today has been a NSD! Just dodged a spendy bullet too as almost had to go out to the corner shop to buy emergency nappies for bed-time but I found one in dd's nursery bag. My mum is looking after dd for the weekend so said she'll buy some tomorrow!

Other frugal things: home haircut for dd(it's very wonky but think you can get away with that look if you're 2!); got lunch for DH and dd from leftovers at dinner; cancelled our NT membership effective of 31st October. Il definitely restart it again as we get our money's worth but I figure we probably won't use in November and December and I can look out for a special offer in the new year - automatic renewal was £30 more expensive than what I paid last year; have been up into the loft to get dd's stocking so I can fill it with the bits I've accumulated so far and hopefully find I don't need to buy anything else in the run up to Christmas.

All sounds good and it's my 3rd NSD this week but did spend £3.50 on a drink at bookclub last night. Social stuff is my problem. If it was a top that cost £3.50, even if it was a bargain, I could walk away; a lovely glass of wine whilst chatting to friends however is a whole different story!

fuzzpig · 11/09/2014 20:01

Oh hell. WAAAAY closer to the overdraft limit than I thought. Had to transfer a little out of my ISA to make sure I don't get charged.

Thank goodness summer is over. Still need to do DS' birthday party though, in a couple of weeks.

FUUUUCK

FantaSea · 11/09/2014 20:29

Passthecake well done on getting a second interview, fingers crossed for you Smile

NSD - I hardly ever have one in the week Smile

chocolatedonut · 11/09/2014 21:07

Hello everyone. Unfortunately not a NDS here Sad bought myself lunch from the local park cafe when out a walk with DD. £5.50

Tomorrow I'm meeting a friend for lunch in the town centre so will try and keep spends to a minimum

Thinking of selling DDs old newborn and 0-3 month clothes. Does anyone have any recommendation of where they would sell best? Should I sell in bundles?

frazzled74 · 11/09/2014 21:14

I'm getting lots of tips and inspiration from here, thanks. Today I spent £25 on top up shopping , I've managed 2 nsd this week, another one tomorrow, hopefully. I've made fish pie from bits in freezer today, and made a load of pancakes to freeze for breakfasts. Still trying to get myself motivated to ebay a few things.

NK5BM3 · 11/09/2014 21:21

NSD. Sorry to hear about car problems and all over spends. It's rubbish....

furcoatbigknickers · 11/09/2014 21:54

More top up shopping.. Need to check amount, should last til monday

SpottyTeacakes · 12/09/2014 06:41

After work today I'm driving with the dc to Kent to stay with me sister so will need petrol (£30). Dp is going on his stag do Hmm

MissMysticFalls · 12/09/2014 07:07

Lunch bought for DP, me and DS by a friend which was lovely so our only spends were on DIY. Discovered a leak in the bathroom in our new house yesterday - 15 quid to buy tools to fix it. Also picked up a bargain - good quality stepladder for 16 quid from secondhand/antique shop in the village. We needed to buy one and were looking at about 50 quid I think.

We are SO close to the edge now with money. A massive bill to pay next week for essential work on the house, then 350 for an electrician and then a plumber, and then DP has to buy paint and stuff and do the house. Mortgage and rent out on the same day next week - and then I think we'll have about 50 quid until my next invoice gets paid.

Family have offered interest free short term loans but really want to avoid if I can as it gives an illusion of having money when we don't!

ItalianWiking84 · 12/09/2014 09:00

Should be low spend or no spend day Smile

furcoatbigknickers · 12/09/2014 11:07

£3.75 creche, hopefully thats it today

furcoatbigknickers · 12/09/2014 11:08

Oh and i forgot yesterday £57 petrol

Passthecake30 · 12/09/2014 12:24

Thanks fanta

Spendy day....went and bought a couple handbag as the zip had bust on all my work bags and going via tube into London I want to know theres a zip between the outside world and my purse and mobile. Pluss a couple of tops to replace knackered ones, and some storage jars.

Asda delivery later, £80ish as we need to stock up. Ran down cupboards before old kitchen was ripped out and now my huge shiny new kitchen is bare as old mother Hubbard!

Also got petrol as was passing a tesco with fuel save.

Later got to buy ds streetdance uniform (£25) and that's it!

Thou dd is now saying her pjs are tpo short (they are) and she needs a new dressing gown as it doesn't keep her legs warm anymore. Argh

FantaSea · 12/09/2014 13:13

£67 in Tesco on my main shop which should last well into next week. They have some good offers at the moment but I stuck to my list, and only got some extra sausages as I can freeze those Smile

furcoatbigknickers · 12/09/2014 13:13

£1.70 parking

£2.70 bread

furcoatbigknickers · 12/09/2014 13:13

£1.50 cream cakeBlush

Iamnotanugget · 12/09/2014 13:16

When is the interview pass? Hope it goes well.

Payday today so September starts for me today. I have about £55 delivery coming from Tesco later as I found £6 off wys £60 online. I've spent £33 in Aldi & Asda getting the bits I couldn't get from Tesco. Hopefully that's all my non perishable stuff for the month and fresh for this week. Luckily I don't need any big things like washing powder. My meal plan isn't very exciting but it'll do for 4 weeks.

Has anyone got any wedding present ideas? We have been provided with a list or cash option but I can't spend a fortune and would like to give something nice.

babsmam · 12/09/2014 13:47

Think I may have to officially give up on September
£81 vets bill for DDog, £200 ish on winter work clothes and shoes, £50 for funeral tomorrow, £33.15 on haircut as could not see family with wild hair.
Gonna be tight.
Dd wants to go to build a bear for birthday with a pal, need to get cake decorating stuff for DS. These are the start of oct but in this pay cycle. Sodding lunar pay.
Still need to find out when / if smyths are doing their 20% off weekend this month

Where is the present list iam?

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 12/09/2014 14:02

£78 to fix the car today, so some slight juggling of the budget this week and next, and should be back on track the week after. I tried to spread the damage out a bit more so I wouldn't be left short in case something else pops up.
