For edibles, have a look at the label. Smart price/value stuff has less ingredients in it and can be a less "processed" product. I am thinking value cheese...mild and no colourants = perfect for my sons (living in the land of orange cheese).

have just bought Sainsbury's basics washing powder to give it a try. £1.97. So far have done 3 washes at 40 degrees and everything seems to be clean, although did treat DS's dinner-stained t-shirt with Vanish first. Not scented though, but that's ok by me.
also have bought micro-fibre washable cloths - 6 for £2 in Asda - which will save me a small fortune in cloths.
Aldi are excellent for spaghetti, cooked ham, cleaning products, fruit, wine.

Asda smartprice washing powder works just fine too. I've noticed no difference since switching from Persil, apart from the huge saving.

bought Sainsbury's own brand ketchup too - 27p FFS - and waited for the backlash but there hasn't been one! another saving!

I shop at Asda and recoomend their:

wet wipes
tins (baked beans, kidney beans, chopped toms etc)
passata
washing powder
shower gel
biscuits
fruit and veg
ketchup/ mayo
pasta
spaghetti
loo roll
kitchen roll
oats
rice krispies
bran flakes
yoghurt
vegetables

AVOID their crisps and corn flakes tho!
