Does £18 sound a lot to you for this...

1 tin Heinz baked beans
2 leeks
2 courgettes
5 tomatoes
Box of bran flakes
Packet of beetroot
Packet of falafels
1 bag of spinach leaves
1 aubergine
1 packet of Ginger crunch creams

I know the cost of food has gone up, but FFS!
Considering that I've really only got enough there to make a few salads, and still have to buy meat or fish to go with the veg, I think £18 is really steep. The two leeks alone were £5!!!

you were ripped off!

katkouta · 23/08/2010 20:11

Depends, if its from a supermarket yes. From a corner shop no.

katkouta · 23/08/2010 20:12

Why did you buy 2 leeks for 5 pounds? Confused

ShatnersBassoon · 23/08/2010 20:13

£5 for two leeks? Does the receipt record how much they weighed? I'm sure there must have been a mistake with the scales.

How big were the leeks?

Sainsbury's leeks (loose) are £2.60 per kilo at the moment.

SaorAlba · 23/08/2010 20:18

I would expect to pay around £9.50 for that without the falafels - not the foggiest idea what they'd cost so can't factor them in.

Where do you shop?

create · 23/08/2010 20:18

The leek season runs from Nov-April. You need to buy produce in season...Wink

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 23/08/2010 20:19

i would expect to pay £10 tops.

sorrento56 · 23/08/2010 20:20

Yes, it sounds like a hell of a lot.

SagacityNell · 23/08/2010 20:21

unless you had really fat or really big leeks then that alone was an overprice!

I don't even know what falafel isBlush

sorrento56 · 23/08/2010 20:21

Even at Waitrose 400g leeks are only £2.48. That is 3 leeks.

Ilythia · 23/08/2010 20:24

10 items = £10.

Yo'd be surprised how often this works actually!

onadietcokebreak · 23/08/2010 20:25

2 leeks How much! Madness!

tigerbear · 23/08/2010 20:26

Oh bugger. Dunno how much the leeks weighed, but they were BIG leeks! Oh dear. We're based in very central London, so don't have any Asda, Tesco, etc. The choice is Sainsburys, Waitrose, and the shop I went to today, which is supposed to be CHEAPER than anywhere else because its a co-operative (not the Co-Op, iyswim). We volunteer for a few hours a month and get 10% off our food bill (so the £18 was INCLUDING the discount).

Fuck me, was it a BP type leak? Grin

Needanewname · 23/08/2010 20:29

I'd find a better shop if I were you! I'm sure Sainsburys etc will deliver to you!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 23/08/2010 20:30

you could have got 18 bowls of fruit and veg in season for that on the market!!!! It sounds v pricey to me, but I am used to Lidl prices...Grin

tigerbear · 23/08/2010 20:33

OK, have just had to go and weigh the bloody leeks -they weigh 700g - does that make it ok? :)

OP posts:
yesway · 23/08/2010 20:36

See if ASDA deliver in your area. They are much cheaper for fruit and veg than the other options

sorrento56 · 23/08/2010 20:37

No Grin. Even organic leeks are only £2.49 for 400g.

SecretNutellaFix · 23/08/2010 20:37

Sainsbury's would have cost you £1.82

whomovedmychocolate · 23/08/2010 20:37

tigerbear - are you sure they are leeks and not bamboo trees or something Grin

tigerbear · 23/08/2010 20:37

Yesway - is the quality ok?
