Does £18 sound a lot to you for this...

1 tin Heinz baked beans
2 leeks
2 courgettes
5 tomatoes
Box of bran flakes
Packet of beetroot
Packet of falafels
1 bag of spinach leaves
1 aubergine
1 packet of Ginger crunch creams

I know the cost of food has gone up, but FFS!
Considering that I've really only got enough there to make a few salads, and still have to buy meat or fish to go with the veg, I think £18 is really steep. The two leeks alone were £5!!!

I'd say it sounds about right.

Tomatoes, leeks and aubergines are all expensive. Tomatoes especially if they were not from the uk.

The quality is very good esp for basics like carrots / brocolli.
The only time we've had to compromise on quality is with strawberries - i.e smaller and less red but just as tasty and we get economy peppers which means we never know which colours will turn up.
Otherwise you honestly wouldn't know it wasn't ocado.

Sounds expensive.

Bran flakes and felafels and aubergine and tomatoes are the only pricey things, I think.

Have you read Rachel Johnson's (yes, Boris's sister) novel Notting Hell? It is very funny on the expensiveness of shopping in central London. Think the protagonist goes to Fresh and Wild once for a joint and some veg and pays £85 or similar. Grin

But sometimes you just get caught out with certain items. I remember my DH saying ruefully, 'We've spent 14.24 in MS Food, on 4 items, and one of those is a cucumber'. Blush

What are you going to do with nearly 2kg leak?

Serve an army leek and tomato soup?

giggly · 29/08/2010 00:33

PMSL @ who BP leak!

Instead of working for free at the Wesawyoucoming cooperative you could spend a couple of hours a week cleaning the homes of overpaid central London peeps at £15 an hour. Then you could afford to blow a fiver on leeks. Or shop at Waitrose. My OH used to insist on spending £2.80 on a minute loaf of bread at the snotty french deli until I made him taste the same loaf at quarter the price from Sainsbury and he couldn't tell the difference.

I make it about £13.00 to be honest
