Covid Variant

I’ve not been sick since Christmas. I’ve had Covid about 5 times in total and this is by far the worst I have ever felt with it.

With all my others, it stayed mostly in the head like a cold, this one I can feel the tightness in my chest. I’ve totally lost my sense of taste and smell, whereas the first one I had my taste was distorted. Heart rate is constantly spiking and I am sweating like a dog.

Although I haven’t tested I just know that this is absolutely covid. Is anyone else suffering at the moment ? 😩

Me. I feel awful and have done for a week. I went into work on Friday which set me back and have been in bed all weekend. This is my 4th bout of this this year and it’s knocked me out for three weeks each time. I’ve tested and it says negative for Covid but I’ve certainly got something re occurring and I’m fed up with it!

Honestly it’s awful isn’t it. I haven’t felt this ill in a long time. Every time I move my heart rate is all over the shop. Just tried to do some washing and had to sit down. Need to go and dry them and I am just splayed out in the sofa under my heated blanket. I woke up at 4am and felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I’ve a pulse ox monitor and I’m fine but it’s def a bit scary.

Have you been vaccinated? And had your booster(s)?

iwillnotstaycalm · 01/09/2025 13:42

I’ve been vaccinated yes - boosters I’ve not had for a long time. I think they only give them to certain people now, don’t they ?

I’m pretty certain I have come back from a holiday abroad with COVID. Had vaccines and boosters. I’m immunosuppressed. The sweats were awful. Now I’m still not feeling like eating and feel light headed and exhausted all the time. It’s been 10 days so far.

Christ , I really hope this doesn’t last for 10 days 😩

I was supposed to be working my first night shift this weekend and had to basically tell them I couldn’t which was a bit embarrassing. I would hope it would have died down a little by Friday next week.

I’m supposed to be dog sitting tomorrow for the week so have to pack and the idea of that right now is not leaving me feeling very joyful 😅

I've had covid at least 4 or 5 times and this has been the worst since the first time for me. I tested positive initially about 6 weeks ago, wasn't overly sick, just tired. Tested negative after 5 days.
About a week later I started having some slight caught in the chest feeling. I have a pulse oximeter so was confident I was OK. Also had the palpitations and awful muscle aches. It's definitely improving but I'm still very achy in my upper back, neck and shoulder and sometimes feel a bit caught - despite my oxygen being at 99%.
Hoping these weird lingering symptoms lift for us all soon - It's a strange virus. I always find I'm hit harder after I test negative.

Memberofstaff · 06/09/2025 10:18

Currently feeling awful with this one. Headache, sweats, lethargic. All the family have it but they don't seem as bad as me. I wonder if it's because they had boosters last year and I didn't (not in vulnerable category)?

Awrite · 07/09/2025 19:26

I tested positive yesterday. Only tested as I have a loved one in hospital. I'm achey, breathless, hot (no temp) and fairly wiped out.

Memberofstaff · 07/09/2025 22:00

Sympathy to everyone who's suffering at the moment. I'm on day 6 and although the cold symptoms have mostly gone I still feel dreadful. Tired, achy, headache and nausea. No appetite and very grumpy!

SirChenjins · 07/09/2025 22:09

I'm floored at the moment with what I thought was a cold, but reading this thread is making me wonder if it's covid as I have all the symptoms listed here. Not sure why I didn't think of it tbh.

Memberofstaff · 08/09/2025 10:32

@SirChenjins I only tested because I still had some old tests left and realised I couldn't taste anything.

If you possibly can, I would try to get out of that.

There is quite a lot of advice that resting properly can help recovery and reduce the chance of Long Covid.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thankyou ! I actually tested negative for covid - but I’m still having lingering of whatever this was. Definitely worse than covid anyway. I’ve still got the chesty cough. Managed to do 2 shifts before crashing tbh but that was mostly down to my mental health and not sleeping for 3 days straight than anything else

After feeling rubbish for a week but testing negative I’ve taken a turn for the even worse and did another test which came up positive. I’m supposed to take my DD to uni on Saturday. For actual Christs sake

Hopefully, you will turn a corner soon if you've been ill for a week.

My aches have gone but if I get up and do something it floors me. Also , my breathing is off. I feel a fraud lying in bed but something is telling me not to push it.

Fingers crossed you are recovered by Saturday.

piscofrisco · 08/09/2025 20:52

Iooking back I was actually first ill on the 27th August. How can it be going on this looooong? Everything hurts. Ridiculous!

HaloDolly · 10/09/2025 12:46

I have covid (I tested out of curiosity). I thought I was coming down with a cold a few days ago but developed a temperature, sneezing, headache. Two days on and it feels like somebody removed my brain and filled my head with thick porridge. Urgh. No energy, swimmy head, ears are ringing, and it is utterly boring. Like Awrite I feel like a fraud just lying in bed with no other symptoms (no cough, no runny nose) but I literally can’t do anything else. Sympathies with you all.

Wolfiefan · 10/09/2025 12:50

I’ve been ill since 22/8. I’m now on steroids to try and sort my breathing. I’m exhausted.

piscofrisco · 11/09/2025 07:31

@HaloDollyI had your symptoms and I didn’t have a cough or runny nose. Both of those showed up last night. And conjunctivitis! This is the gift that keeps giving….FFS. Weirdly I feel slightly less like I can’t stand up this morning, which is positive. But the rest of the things are worse, which is less so positive. I MUST be better by Saturday to take dd to university. I am missing the last week with her stuck in bed as it is.

piscofrisco · 11/09/2025 07:33

Sorry to hear it @wolfiefan.Hope you feel a bit better with the steroids. This really is an utter bastard of a thing.

HaloDolly · 11/09/2025 08:39

I read the new variant comes with conjunctivitis and my eyes have been scratchy throughout. I was hoping to be back to work by today but I don’t think so (I work from home). I feel so much better knowing it’s not just me being lazy because that’s how it feels! Daft isn’t it?

I'm so sorry piscofrisco that you are not getting to spend your last week with your daughter doing nice things together, that is pants. Hopefully by Saturday it will just be a snotty nose to contend with.

How is everyone else doing?

piscofrisco · 11/09/2025 09:16

In many ways that’s a relief as I hadn’t realised that about the eyes and thought I’d scratched my eyes with my contact lenses or something!
I beg of you.
I just got up to make a cup of tea and try and take the bin out and that floored me so I’m back in bed. Rubbish. Though I am finding taking ibuprofen 2 hours after paracetamol and so on is helping a bit. I was just taking paracetamol before which wasn’t effective at all.

Wolfiefan · 11/09/2025 09:38

I’ve had two days of steroids and no better. I’ve just got up and had a shower. I’m dressed now but too exhausted and out of breath to have breakfast or make tea. It sounds so bloody pathetic. I’m so frustrated. Even had to send my beloved hounds back to the breeder as I can’t walk them.
sorry. Pity party here. 🤦‍♀️

piscofrisco · 11/09/2025 10:01

No need to apologise @Wolfiefan. It’s the absolute pits. Sorry about your dogs too-you must be missing them. It’s so so frustrating. I couldn’t sleep much so terrified myself by reading about long Covid. Which was not a good idea.
I’ve had Covid maybe 4 times and this strain has been just about the worst (or ties with the one I had over Easter 2023 which took me out for 3 weeks). If it’s any consolation I needed steroids for that one and I made a full recovery.
