Does anyone still believe Covid came from a wet market?

Even the sainted New York Times has now confirmed, 5 years too late, that those dangerous 'conspiracy theorists' were right all along, and that Covid did not come from a bat crossed with a pangolin at a wet market in Wuhan, but unbelievably from a lab leak at the Wuhan institute of virology next door, who had been conducting gain of function research on coronaviruses. Surprise, surprise and who would have thought!

Makes you think what else the 'conspiracy theorists' got right, and what else our governments and media are still lying to us about.

But anyone actually still actually think it came from a wet market rather than a lab leak?

I think everyone knows it was a Lab accident. I'm sure everyone is fed up with people who haven't got anything better to do than go on about it.

no human has ever changed sex either.

💯 true fact.

Happyinarcon · 19/03/2025 06:02

I have to be honest I don’t even know if it was anything other than normal flu. It would be weird to engineer a flu virus that just killed sick 80 year olds

RobinEllacotStrike · 19/03/2025 06:06

in aging populations with dramatically lowering birth rates?

Zezet · 19/03/2025 06:06

I just don't particularly care where it came from.

AlisonDonut · 19/03/2025 06:08

Did anyone actually think that in the first place? Luckily the guy in charge has already been pardoned for his crimes, so that's all fine.

Zonder · 19/03/2025 06:11

"It would be weird to engineer a flu virus that just killed sick 80 year olds"

It would. But as we know, that doesn't describe COVID.

The BBC heavily have promoted the wet market theory, and attempted to discredit the lab leak theory since the outset.

There are plenty more links but you get the idea.

Wuhan Seafood Market

Covid origin studies say evidence points to Wuhan market

One of the researchers said he hoped the studies would correct the false theory that it came from a lab.

I think this is the pertinent point. All the people who are over it and don't care where it came from - do they really not care about the obvious cover-up and the treatment of the people that said it was most likely a lab leak. Happy to be blatantly lied to by scientific experts with main stream media backing them up, and Facebook and the like blocking people?

Do you not understand how research labs work at all?

Facebook did indeed delete or block your account in the early days if you posted that Covid came from a lab leak. In much the same way as Facebook deleted peoples accounts, or shut down support groups for people posting about, or seeking help for their vaccine injuries etc. Crazy stuff.

I have no idea how they work, can you tell us?

InWalksBarberalla · 19/03/2025 06:25

Yep which is why it blows my mind that people say they don't care. One of the most disruptive events in our lifetimes and we were lied to and treated like conspiracy nut jobs if we believed based on all reasonable evidence that it leaked from a lab.

BlondiePortz · 19/03/2025 06:25

Where did the lab get it from?

eurochick · 19/03/2025 06:25

It always stretched credibility to maintain that a wild mutation in a coronavirus just happened to occur next door to a lab focussed on researching mutated coronaviruses.

I expected foreign governments to go after China for compensation for the cost of dealing with covid. Instead China got rich providing test kits and PPE.

Wouldn’t you have expected more from an engineered virus than what we actually got? It seems odd to have housing shortages across many parts of the world right after a dangerous pandemic for instance. It’s sort of the opposite to what you’d expect.

Agreed, the levels of censorship were on an industrial scale.

And the witch-hunts launched against any scientists who dared to speak up against the official 'narrative' were utterly brutal and often career-ending (de-platforming, smearing, firing, censorship, loss of funding, etc).

Many people still suffering from vaccine injuries. This is still made difficult for them to be properly listened to by medical staff. One lady in 50s had such a severe reaction her stomach was removed. She sadly passed away but the governments should be listening and helping the vaccine injured this is still being covered up.

Pinkandcake · 19/03/2025 06:31

I mainly agree with everything but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he did come from a mutation and cross over from animals to humans. Didn’t that happen with bird and swine flu? And isn’t that what happened with aids?

I do think the public are filled with so much shit and there are cover ups about so many things that we’ll never know either way

I think the fact that the US government was funding the research because it was deemed too dangerous to do in the US muddies the water somewhat.

PermanentTemporary · 19/03/2025 06:36

Me.

Havibg said that, I would be much less surprised if it did turn out to be a lab leak than if it were a wild mutation, than by most other conspiracy theories. Particularly because it's a cockup theory in itself, which is always more convincing.

Using this as an immediate way to talk about vaccines as evil is really, really dumb.

Mrsdyna · 19/03/2025 06:36

You can have all the evidence that you want but if the mainstream news channels don't tell them, a lot of mumsnetters cannot think for themselves or be reasoned with at all. That's why you've got responses like, "yeah we knew but so what though?"
