Why Does Anyone Still Test

I'm not actually asking that, it's obvious to anyone why people still do of course.
I'm asking about the ridiculous faux confusion from many posters; the apparent shock that people are testing despite it being well publicised that people have it and the 'I don't know anyone that tests' or 'why are you testing?'
Don't want to test? Don't. But you're lying if you say you're confused or didn't know that others do.
Anyway, I find it annoying

I was asked to do one at Xmas before I attended the surgery. Other than that I wouldn’t.

Because I can't bear not knowing something, when I could know!

I think some people are just genuinely living in a bubble where they think Covid isn't a thing to worry about anymore.

My mum has it currently and it's flooring her :(

Because it’s ridiculous! The tests have been proven time and again to be inaccurate - logical sense says when you show positive for an illness but no symptoms then something is seriously amiss 🙄

I know. Everyone I know does a test when they're feeling grotty. It's interesting to know what's going around.

I get why people have reasons, if my grandparents were still alive I'd probably test before visiting for example. Otherwise I don't see the point in the absence of rules and that you treat viral respiratory infections based on the symptoms whatever the virus.

I work with vulnerable people, I have a mother in her late 80s. I want to be as sure as possible that I am not passing on Covid to anyone.
If I'm unwell I won't visit my mum and will work from home - but I would still test so that I could let people know if I did have Covid.

Because it's selfish not to.

Absolutely. It's the total pretence that people testing is shocking or beyond comprehension that annoys me.
If someone doesn't want to test that's up to them but blathering on at people that do is boring now.

I didn't know that the tests have been proven inaccurate, they have been spot on for us when we had it (or didnt have it), and for everyone I know. We test if we have a sore throat or anything like that because we have elderly vulnerable parents who somehow have managed not to get it yet. I also don't understand why people are astounded that others test, and pronounce it loudly and often.

My friends, friend had it for the first time recently and ended up in hospital. I struggle to get my head round how they have never caught it before. I could guess why he has never caught it, but it's still unusual.

I dont come into contact with vulnerable people so I presume this is why people say "why are you still testing?" They don't come into contact with vulnerable people and assume no one else does. The majorityof people have had it by now. My friend could even visit the covid ward. So even the nhs arent testing.

My grandad died of Covid last week.

So that's why I would test. To protect people who are vulnerable or elderly.

Covid isn't a cold for everyone

I will test, because I can, with tests available for a small cost. If there was an over the counter test for other respiratory illnesses I would also test. I would rather know what I’m dealing with. I also can’t stand those sorts of flippant, snidey comments so am with you OP

That you know of or care about. You will of course come into contact with vulnerable people all the time, it's not like we wear badges

I have no real need to test as i don’t really come into contact with vulnerable people but if I had a covid test in the house and felt I had symptoms, yes I’d probably do a test. I want to know what I’ve got, that’s human nature surely? Same as any other condition, sinusitis, frozen shoulder, broken leg etc.

How do you know you aren't coming into contact with somebody who is vulnerable?

If you go to a shop, the chemist, the doctors, work, school, anything then you come into contact with vulnerable people
I don't wear a sticker on my head that says immunocompromised

I don't test. I don't have any tests left in the house, wouldn't make a trip out to purchase them.

I don't think it's fair to assume that people who are not testing are gleefully spreading their germs around the vulnerable. Most will be doing exactly what they did before 2020 - staying at home if they're not well. Only going out if they really have to, because when you're unwell with any sort of bug/virus the only thing you want to do is lie on the sofa.

And yes, lots of people aren't bothered about covid any more. Because we have had our vaccines and it's now just one other illness among many which you might or might not come into contact with.

I'm testing because I'm still being asked to by the ONS Covid survey

I don't go to the shops, I don't get near anyone on the school run. I only socialise walking with my friends in the woods. So right now, at this moment I can be very sure I don't come into contact with vulnerable people. It would be different if I went food shopping etc or stood in a group on school pick up. But I just don't mix in crowds or go to the gp or anything like that.

Because I don't want to give covid to vulnerable people.
