It's been a while since I posted . Developed sudden flu symptoms in the night & tested positive to covid this morning. Seeing more twitter - X re new wave, new variant. I know cases were still happening but wondered how many are getting it now - and how last

Personally, I would rather that ‘any’ virus took us than live the lesser life we had for years

You would rather your family died from any virus than take on board health advice? Did your classics degree arm you with that level of confidence in biochemistry?

Measure stupid any way you want, but it’s ignorant to infer that demonstrated intelligence in one area will automatically transfer to any/all others. Adding the statement that means you’re comfortable with the notion your own family should gamble based on your hunchs based on…. well, I’m not really sure….. is wandering quite far from the accusation of stupidity into the realms of wilful harm.

You live In Your dystopian world with WHO dictating your body, mind and healthy. 😂 the people on this thread! Matt hancock was right to laugh in your faces.

The WHO is not dictating me.

I am so sick of seeing people being so rude when it comes to infectious illnesses and passing on their doses. Something as simple as coughing and sneezing into your elbow would go a long way or isolating for 24 hours with D&V but that's not being done. I see many people just coughing into the open people and just passing on their doses or potential germs with very little consideration towards other people. It's not hard to contain an illness and keep it to oneself or keept it to within a family.

Basic manners are just not being carried out by many people.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 20/08/2023 10:00

I've just tested positive. Has anyone else had a runny nose but just from one nostril?

foxandbee · 20/08/2023 10:13

I assure you, but I’m only saying that I wouldn’t any more, because it is now classified as a mild disease/illness, so why all the vitriol?

For all your Oxbridge education you don't seem to grasp what is meant by a "mild illness" in this context. There may be a good chance that covid won't kill you or put you in hospital, but it could make you very ill and have long term consequences.

If people didn't go around telling everyone hospital were war zones then we would still have loved ones around us. People have died through fear of seeking medical help with far more severe consequences than a flu virus. Parents losing their kids through suicide, cancers going undiagnosed. Kids in lockdown that social didn't get around to seeing through fear they would still be here. They were not war zones and doctors were screaming to get help for other diseases.

We are more tha 3 years on and this type of fear mongering should end. Plus, can't keep with up the names of the variants the 'experts' that the media keeping going on about. Time to get health anxieties checked out on here. People died alone, mental health suffered, suicides happened..I am not a horrible person for calling out this disgraceful fear mongering again Over reactions again.

@Moonsun88

My family was in need of the services of one of the worst hit hospitals in the country. There were ambulances queuing outside and shortly after my family member had cancer treatment, the ward was being cleared to make way for an influx of Covid patients. We had no fear about seeking cancer treatment, only fear that we may not get it in time because the hospital was inundated. Covid had an impact on all hospital services and it was vital to get it under control. You only need to look at the fatality statistics in the UK, globally, the statistics for long Covid.

You cannot hold sympathy purely for those who support your anti science stance. You need to sympathise with all who were affected, otherwise it comes across as weaponising the distress of others to back your agenda.

Anti science hey! This is why its not possible to states your opinions with people under mass psychosis on here. they needed nudge units to manipulate behaviour. Hospitals were not war zones and people were dying in excess deaths now. You keeps following your sciences and get boosted. But lying to terrify people is manipulative and abusive so what science are you following?

Moonsun88 · 20/08/2023 12:13

I'm out of this thread anyway. I will not be responding anymore. I wish people good health and good future.

If possible turn away media. There are great ways to improve health and live your best life without listening to constant fear mongering in the media. There are great doctors who can help with health anxieties as well.

I just hope no one is too scared to go and see a doctor if they have other health concerns.

Cornettoninja · 20/08/2023 12:14

@Moonsun88 so your lived experience has more value and credibility than anyone else’s? Especially if it’s something you don’t like?

Because frankly, that’s bollocks. There’s a spectrum of experiences from Covid and no one is of any less value than the other. Proponents of similar views to yours have weaponised them just as much.

as an aside I fine it very odd that you would be so quick to tell everyone you have a degree in classics from oxbridge and then go on to use quotations to refer to ‘experts’. It’s quite a juxtaposition.

frazzledasarock · 20/08/2023 12:27

Well @Moonsun88 I personally lost three close friends in their thirties due to covid. They were fit and healthy and have left behind young children.

my own DC had covid and turned blue she wasn’t able to breathe.

my friends husband was treated in a hospital car park as their nearest hospital was so full there were no beds available. I know my local hospital was the same.

covid was terrifying and had such a massive effect as people including HCP’s were dying from it very quickly and nobody knew how to stop or treat it.

we are now better able to cope with it (thank god), doesn’t mean the initial effect didn’t happen. My DC’s friends have lost their healthy active mum to it.

nobody is calling for lockdown, this thread is discussing symptoms of the latest variant.

Colleague died before the vaccine, my mum afterwards, my daughter got covid and PEs afterwards. I’m not lying about the “war zone”, from a lack of beds and staff pov that’s what it was like. I’ve never been in a situation before or since where wards had non nurses working as nurses 🤷‍♀️. I’m a midwife, I wouldn’t normally be allowed to be counted as a registered band 5 nurse on the general side but that was ok in 2020. I’m not a nurse and never have been.

Floofydawg · 20/08/2023 13:20

My main issue with this post is that it's not 'a wave' - it's just people getting Covid because it's circulating and always will be. The pandemic is over, therefore there is no 'wave'

Cornettoninja · 20/08/2023 13:56

Wave is used in this context to illustrate peaks and troughs of an infection that has a constant presence. It’s not a word unique to pandemic circumstances.

you’re objecting to a word that’s used to communicate exactly what you’re describing @Floofydawg Unless you’re attempting to change the definition of it?

Vargas · 20/08/2023 17:18

Just back from holiday, 2/3 of us have it. It's not terrible but worse than bout i had last year. Very congested, hot/cold, fatigue, just generally under the weather.

Eh?

Figures are climbing. It’s a wave. What would you call it? A sudden influx? A rise in numbers? Wave is just easier.

Funny how they always want to bring masks back in when its hot which makes them more uncomfortable to wear.

Hot? It has been raining for the past month and hardly hot!

Judging by the way DH was hunched up with a tissue up his left nostril, yesterday, yes!

foxandbee try living in a sweatbox flat and then saying that You are one of those who dont think its summer unless its 30c +

EmilyBrontesGhost · 20/08/2023 18:38

If covid no longer comes and goes in waves, someone had better let the experts know they're getting it wrong

Pagel's not an expert 😂

Am I? How do you work that out, you don't know me. I live in a part of the UK that rarely gets above 25c so my bar for hot is pretty low tbh!

I am sorry if you live in a hot flat, but a) no one is suggesting we all mask up again and b)even if masks came in again, you wouldn't have to wear one in your flat.

Are you a fan of Laura Dodsworth?

WingingItSince1973 · 20/08/2023 18:58

Op I'm sure my neighbour would be very concerned about any variant coming. He spent 6 weeks in intensive care with Covid and barely survived. He's now the shadow of the man he once was and is on constant portable oxygen. I'm not worried for myself but would be for anyone whose health is compromised in any way. Don't listen to the posters that just want to be sarky for the sake of it.
