AIBU to be sick of people who think it's all back to normal?

Woke to the news that my cousin died early this morning of Covid. No underlying conditions and she was vaccinated. But she was elderly. She hardly ever went out but must have picked it up on a rare outing to the local shop.

People are still dying and we should still be looking out for those vulnerable to this awful disease. It isn't all back to normal. My cousin is dead and she wouldn't be but for Covid.

Yes, it was difficult for some but for most people it's no hardship being asked to stay at home and watch Netflix

The nerve of you to say that. The absolute nerve. I'm utterly disgusted by people like you.

Yes, thank you. Slightly more temperate than my reaction but yes. Utterly disgusting and I don't care whether or not that pp might be just trying to wind people up. WFH nearly shredded my mental health and to be told 'just sit and watch Netflix, it's not hard' is bringing back stuff I really don't want to revisit.

Can someone please explain to this person @LondonCat7 the cost in £ of the ‘hardship’ of watching Netflix at home. Please someone, just do it. They need to be educated. Remember this person probably (unfortunately) has the right to vote. They are dangerous to wider society if left at large without being educated.

The other thing a lot of people don't get is that if people had complied and stayed at home in the first place, covid would have been suppressed.

Instead, people were out for their 'essential' trips to the shops and 'essential' walks spreading the virus and it's still here.

TheKeatingFive · 01/01/2023 14:01

A lot of people including myself had a really positive experience during lockdown. I don't think that at should be discounted.

Many of us found it was a fantastic opportunity to decompress and move away from the fast paced lives we'd been leading.

Lock yourself down then, what's stopping you?

leave the rest of us out of it

Oh right, definitely on a wind up now.

What like China and the wonderful position they are now in?

You are probably right

MrsDanversGlidesAgain, I would have been deleted if I had written what I wanted to say.

I honestly am enraged by people like that. I've said from the beginning that these people are the selfish ones.

Stay inside then. Forever. I promise nkbody will miss you. You're shameful.

You must be at the wind up. China locked everyone up, not working out now is it? Or do you advocate being locked up forever more? Starve to death while saving the fucking NHS?

malificent7 · 01/01/2023 14:03

So sorry for your loss op but very gently, I work in healthcare nd if it wasn't Covid, it may well have been strep A or any other contagious disease. I do agree that it has had a ripple effect. In the future time we will see another pandemic and the elderly or very young will sucumb first.

Having said that, I recently witnessed a 21 year old suffer greatly with strep A.

Maybe, a poster was deleted for similar the other day. I think some enjoy it for odd reason

Look mate, school is back in a couple of days. Until then if you are really bored, go play call of duty or something.

User1785498 · 01/01/2023 14:03

There are suddenly loads of Covid threads at the moment in AIBU, very odd

Blueeyedgirl21 · 01/01/2023 14:04

Flu is worse than covid
Unfortunately elderly people are susceptible at this time of year to all sorts of viruses it’s always been so

I expect people to test if they are ill and isolate themselves until they are clear. I blame those who do not test and spread it around without even wearing a mask.

I blame those who think they may have it but don't test and don't wear a mask to stop it spreading.

I expect people to care for the wider community but it seems it's too big and ask for some here.

Sorry for the loss of your cousin, but people are struggling to pay for food, energy bills etc. Tests are no longer free and people simply cannot afford to take a week or so off work to isolate.
Your anger is misguided and lacks understanding of other peoples situations I’m afraid.

Who do you think worked to get products onto shelves and then delivered out to Netflix land?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 01/01/2023 14:10

Not only misguided but hurting only the OP; who can have as many expectations of people and blame them as much she wants. People aren't going to live by what she wants and expects.

Hbh17 · 01/01/2023 14:11

Illness is normal, especially in winter.
Death is normal.
Restricting people's civil liberties is not normal.
Wearing masks is not normal.
Living in fear and paranoia of potential, usually minor, illness is not normal - and that is the sadness, because some people haven't learnt from our collective experience.

DisapointedSister · 01/01/2023 14:12

Blueeyedgirl21 · 01/01/2023 14:04

I’m sorry I am supportive of not locking down anymore but this post is ignorant and it really depends on the person’s body and the strand of flu or covid.

For instance some people’s bodies that T cells that have a “silent” reaction to covid and some have a more “noisy” reactive T cells. The silent reactions are why some are affected but have no symptoms while their bodies fight it off. This doesn’t mean they won’t experience a noisy response to the flu and vise versa.

So not only are you dismissing OP’s relative dying from covid but saying that your bodily reaction is the only “correct” reaction when that is completely untrue.

It’s like saying “well I didn’t get morning sickness when I was pregnant therefore morning sickness does not exist.”

Every body will react to different viruses and illnesses uniquely. To say otherwise is a clear indicator of not understanding how biology works.

My df is 92.
Covid and isolation have ruined what’s left of his life because the lack of interaction combined with fear of going out have impacted his mental health severely. He’s a shell of what he was. Most days he just sits like a zombie on his sofa, he hasn’t been on a bus in over 2 years. He needs psychological help.
We still can’t get his gp to do a health check on him and as I live 500 miles away I’m not often there in person although I have been into the surgery twice begging them to see him but they won’t listen to me.

@LondonCat7 There are worse things than dying and living in constant fear and bewilderment is one of them.

ZL2014 · 01/01/2023 14:14

A shame to read about your cousin, condolences to you.

Personally I think things need to get back to normal as there’s risk with everything. I possibly say this as my Grandad, who passed in May was victim to Covid restrictions in care homes. The Covid restrictions of not being able to visit at anytime and family not being allowed into the rooms of the residents played a massive part in his death. Unfortunately they had not been looking after him properly, it was only when he was admitted to hospital seriously unwell that things were questioned and their stories didn’t add up. We collected his stuff from the home and we found that everything was filthy, if we’d have been able to access his room either it wouldn’t have been left like this or we would have seen it. The thought is so painful still x
