If you could go back in time, would you still get the Covid jab?

I don’t really care if you’re vaccinated or not, but I’m interested if people would go back and change their decision?

no way
gave up after 2nd vaccine anyway don't want to be ill every time

@rockly it IS career suicide, because if he simply riding the monetised wave of "misinformation" at some point there will be a reckoning as far as the vaccines are concerned. It isn't something he will be able to just sweep under the carpet. This stance is a permanent one because the whole world and its citizens are involved and the truth will unfold before our eyes, one was or another.

There is nothing to gain taking a hard stance against these vaccines.

On the other side of things though, many people, organisations, businesses have struck gold on profits from the pandemic, and still continue to do so. For whom is it ok to profit from the pandemic? Who is allowed to, according to you?

Wonderful that you are a research scientist, but there are other scientists and experts who have a different view point to yours, based on robust evidence. The level of misinformation spread from government officials who were backed by scientists these past few years is astonishing. Some of us don't forget and can't be brainwashed into blindly conforming any longer. At some point critical thinking (bet you love that phrase) sets in. All the sums do not add up.

Thank you for your input.

But this is the point. Their claims are not based on 'robust evidence', they are based on hints and anecdote and feelings.

Quite - it's an anonymous forum so anyone's claims about qualifications/expertise are irrelevant - but you did tell me to read some of the latest research @statementstate. So as I explained, I keep up to date with research regarding both COVID & coronavirus vaccines. There is nothing that backs up the claims he is making.

These are opinions are not just mine - they are the view of the vast vast majority of experts, because they are based on robust evidence.

Malhotra's fake claims are not, so I have no idea why you're claiming "robust evidence" when it does not exist for statements like "vaccination of the general population was a huge mistake" and "no one should be offered a seasonal booster."

There are a handful of people like him, who go against scientific consensus (for all things - not just coronavirus) - but I have no idea why you'd ignore thousands of experts saying one thing, and cherry pick the lone outliers.

spuddel · 08/01/2023 17:09

Regardless of Malhotra's motives, there are people getting myocarditis after vaccination. I think the debate is how many. The BHF say it's rare but does happen. I imagine a vaccine roll out so huge will have a percentage of people with bad reactions. I remember Boris Johnson saying something to that effect at the start of the roll out. People therefor must have free choice and informed consent. This guy was in Edinburgh Royal Mile sounding very angry about his heart damage. twitter.com/Nohj_85/status/1612076903493664770

You're strangely blind to the things people are saying to you @statementstate . To repeat:

-it is not "career suicide" -demonstated by Malhotra doing this exact show 5 or so years ago regarding other aspects of evidence based medicine, which had no consequences. There is no "reckoning", he just moves on to the next fad.

-yes, there are huge incentives in taking a "hard stance" against vaccines - there is an entire industry around being high a profile "anti-vaxxer". This is not new, it has been going on since Wakefield.

-no one should benefit from a pandemic. You brought up Malhotra, which is why people are now talking about him. He is making a profit by actively causing harm (i.e., terrifying those who have been vaccinated, coercing who would benefit from a booster out of taking it.

-there is no "robust evidence" behind the claims Malhotra is making, I'm not convinced you understand what the term means.

-it is ironic you are talking about "blindly conforming" and being "brainwashed", when you are literally repeating things that are not true, rather than looking at the evidence and thinking for yourself. Malhotra is making huge amounts of money from being a contrarian, you are doing his work for free by advertising him.

@statementstate

I want to back what @rockly is saying. The basic tenet of science is : scientific consensus.

“Scientific consensus is the generally held judgment, position, and opinion of the majority or the supermajority of scientists in a particular field of study at any particular time.[1][2]

Consensus is achieved through scholarly communication at conferences, the publication process, replication of reproducible results by others, scholarly debate,[3][4][5][6] and peer review.”

And that just applies to every scientific theory : whether you send a rocket to the moon, if you are treating cancer patients etc etc.

Thats not to say it is rigid and never changes, it does. IF sufficient, robust and thoroughly peer reviewed evidence became available to contradict the current consensus then - whatever you are claiming - would become the new consensus. And that just ain’t happening!

If decisions were made in terms of public health based on what 3% of doctors were saying, over 97% - can you see how that simply doesn’t make sense or is highly likely to be far more dangerous?

You cannot make global health decisions on clams made by 3% of doctors. Except I imagine it’s even less than that…

Even if you subscribe to the ‘Big Pharma’ theory and think it’s all monetised/for profit/we are being duped - when you look at the career records of the apparently ‘hero doctors who are telling the “truth”’ - they tend to have FAR more controversial backgrounds than anyone else who is actual going through the proper/regulated scientific channels. E.g Yeadon made millions through Ziarco and was struck off by serveral biomed companies for being at odds with their practices prior to his “claims”.

There is a very interesting book by Jay Van Beval. It’s about the power of your beliefs/viewpoints and he compares the anti vaxx stance to a cult like belief. An example he gives is of a group who gathered in a church who believed the world would end at a particular time. When that time passed, the group were all beginning to wonder what was happening. Instead of facing the embarrassment of being wrong/or breaking the groups firmly held belief : the group leader told them all she’d be given a message. The message being that : because they had all believed, they had - in fact - saved the world. And they unanimously took that to be the new truth.

Social media allows for echo chambers, and cult like anti-science ideas to form. And while I’d generally believe in free speech - in the middle of a pandemic - when people’s lives are at risk - I think they can cause an extraordinary amount of harm.

Zippedydoo123 · 09/01/2023 08:24

No. I have never caught covid to my knowledge. Even colds only last a day with me. I am 59 too.

I don't think all these boosters help much as plenty of people get covi d plus quite badly.

Recently 44 % of booster patients were hospitalised with covid. It is a farce.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/01/2023 08:38

Yes, it's exactly like a cult. I have been quite upset to see friends veer off the beaten path and get sucked into the anti-vax vortex. Happens so easily. There only needs to be a little seed of doubt to start the process. There's no reasoning with them. They get offended if you suggest they are being misled. No, they insist, they are waking up and finding out the truth and we've all been lied to! Then they quote people (none of them experts) from Bitchute or Rumble or wherever. Any logical thinking has vanished. I'm extremely glad I have a science degree, I believe that has helped keep me focussed on actual research and data rather than people with an axe to grind.

I know I can't change what these people think. I guess they have to go their own way and find out for themselves, but in the meantime it's quite depressing and in some ways frightening.

Recently 44 % of booster patients were hospitalised with covid. It is a farce.

What does this even mean?

That 44% of Covid patients in one hospital were boosted? That 44% of all boosted patients were hospitalised? Is that worldwide, across all age groups? Over what time period?

It's not a 'statistic' that makes any sense as used, so I'd be wary of attributing any truth or meaning to it.

Dr John Campbell does regular podcasts about the pandemic.

You mean the misinformation guy? Why would anyone listen to him?

Zippedydoo123 · 09/01/2023 09:37

2.62 million people listen to him.

loulouljh · 09/01/2023 09:40

Re the person above thinking the anti-vaxxers are a "cult". That is how I perceive some of the die hard won't believe anything but the vaccines are brilliant supporters! Cult like and blinkered even when very obvious evidence to the contrary is starting them in the face!

I have no axe to grind at all. Each to their own but I am very very happy to have not taken this so called vaccine.

Is that what we are using to confirm someones credentials these days? Oh dear. Am I supposed to be impressed by that? I've seen the lack of critical thinking online for myself. Viewing figures are meaningless.

What was the statistic he actually gave? Because the way you've quoted it, it isn't a statistic - it doesn't contain enough context to give any information or meaning.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/01/2023 10:18

Dr John Campbell (not a medical doctor but a nurse/educator) gave very good information out at the beginning of the pandemic. However somewhere along the way he started to diverge and veer off from actual good data and began championing Ivermectin, for example. Clearly he now believes vaccines should be withdrawn although he doesn't say so directly, just waggles his eyebrows a lot. I don't have any time for him now, he has gone 'out of his lane'. Because of this, he has gained a lot more followers, especially as he's interviewed Malhotra and others of the anti-vax ilk.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/01/2023 10:20

@loulouljh Do you feel this way about other vaccines, or is it just the mRNA Covid vaccines? Did you feel like this about the AZ vaccine?

loulouljh · 09/01/2023 10:23

@CrunchyCarrot I feel this way re all covid "vaccines" including AZ. Re others no. But to be fair I have never investigated them at all. I had everything when recommended as did my kids. I thought they were needed. Now to be honest I am not sure on any of them!!! Rightly or wrongly my faith in medicine and medical professionals has been truly shaken over all of this.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/01/2023 10:42

Rightly or wrongly my faith in medicine and medical professionals has been truly shaken over all of this.

What is it that has shaken your faith? Is it that you feel professionals didn't tell you all the facts? Does it have to do with lockdown and restrictions? Am curious as to what the key factors are that have made you doubt medical people in authority (and don't get me wrong, I have my own issues with the medical profession, just not over vaccines).

MinkyGreen · 09/01/2023 10:48

@loulouljh

But that’s the point - there isn’t obvious evidence staring you in the face.

There are fringe scientists trying to push an anti vaxx agenda - and they are made popular through social media/YouTube/Bitchute etc. They may well come across as knowledgeable - but - if they were right - it would start to become consensus opinion.

As I said above - any scientific decision is based on consensus opinion. It’s just how science works! It’s just ridiculous and unsafe to trust a 1% opinion over a 99% opinion.
