Side effects of the latest Covid jab

mydogisthebest · 10/10/2022 21:13

What, if any, side effects are people experiencing?

I had the jab at 4pm on Saturday. By 8pm I could not keep my eyes open (I normally don't go to bed until 11pm at the earliest and hardly ever fall asleep watching tv).

Even going to bed at 8.30pm and sleeping fairly well I didn't wake yesterday until 8am and still felt so tired. My arms and legs were aching and I felt sick. I actually slept most of the day and only had a piece of toast to eat which I brought back up.

Today I haven't stayed in bed but am still really tired but the most annoying thing is that everything tastes strange. I am a big tea drinker but at present it tastes vile. DH cooked egg and chips for tea which is one of my favourite meals and it was just horrible and tasted weird.

Just hoping this isn't going to last long

I had Covid and flu jabs on Saturday afternoon. No side effects at all, except very slightly sore arm in the arm that had the Covid jab (the arm that had the flu jab was fine).

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 18/10/2022 18:26

Had my 4th covid jab last night. I had Pfizer and feel really rough, haven't felt this ill in ages. To top it all, I had the flu jab this afternoon. Hopefully I will feel back to normal in a couple of days.

My dh had the same with zero side effects, as did my elderly mum.

hoteltango · 18/10/2022 22:42

Had Comirnaty bivalent and flu jabs first thing this morning. Back home before 10 a.m. Slept for a couple of hours. It's not unusual for me to have a short nap in the day, but that was unusual. (I'm retired, and I'm usually up quite late at night, hence the daytime nap.)

By lunchtime, I was getting the chills, really quite bad. Very similar to the feeling of my spine being encased in ice, which I used to get as a PMS symptom. And also a headache but Nurofen seems to have diminished that.

I found one of those gel heated pads, that you heat up in the microwave. Bliss. Wish I could duct-tape it to my back.

Don't know if DH (who had the same jabs) is also getting side-effects. I almost don't want to ask because he's the kind that would don the "dressing gown of doom" at the slightest chance. 😉

I had my Pfizer Bivalent booster yesterday lunchtime. I woke up tired this morning but by about 10.30 I was freezing with chills, had awful aching all over and a headache, and some nausea. I’ve taken paracetamol and that’s helped a bit, though my head in particular is still banging. I had similar after my first AZ dose, and a lesser version after my Pfizer booster last winter. I don’t care because it goes within 24 hours, and having Covid is much, much worse, IME.

Just to reassure people with similar symptoms - I was right as rain again by about 8pm, so it was short lived as I’d hoped.

jtaeapa · 19/10/2022 00:37

Both astras and Moderna made me ill. Just had 4th jab, my first time with Pfizer and apart from tired/hurt arm I had no side effects. I have had 2 nasty bouts of covid, one recently.

knittingaddict · 19/10/2022 10:48

Further to my previous post. I woke up this morning with a sore arm, but otherwise fine. Shame really, I could have done with some down time.

mmmflakycrust81 · 19/10/2022 13:08

Update from Monday booster - yesterday i felt tired, achey and low energy. Wasnt hungry.

Today, right as rain.

PrettyMuchBollocks · 19/10/2022 13:09

I had my covid and flu vaccinations yesterday afternoon. Last night only the flu arm was aching. Woke early this morning and the whole of my covid booster arm is really aching too, lots of general joint aches and generally feel rough. I’m back in bed with a hot water bottle on my shoulder. I found sitting really made my pelvis ache badly. Had pfizer this time, I’ve previously had 2 Astra zeneca and 2 moderna. Hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow.

My neighbours had their covid booster yesterday, and don’t have anything more than a painful injection site. If we are doing this still next year I might have them separately.

annonymousse · 19/10/2022 13:09

Pfizer combined one here. No side effects apart from a sore arm for a couple of days.

Saucery · 23/10/2022 08:26

Comirnaty bivalent yesterday afternoon. Injection site feels like I’ve been punched in the arm, face hot and red, existing joint aches turned up to 11. Hoping it all passes as quickly as the Moderna and Pfizer effects previously (24-36 hours). I have plans for half term! That kind of need me to be able to walk about without going “Owwww!” Grin

Not nearly as bad as the Covid I had in March or the Super Cold I had 2 weeks into the new term.

Saucery · 23/10/2022 08:27

DH had his at the same time, absolutely fine, slightly achy arm. He always sails through vaccinations and I can’t remember the last time he had a cold. I want his immune system.

Abraxan · 23/10/2022 08:48

I had my 5th vaccine (moderna new one) a few weeks back alongside the flu jab.

Felt shocking the next day and needed a day off work. But was fine, albeit with a sore arm, the next day.

But the sorest arm and the one most red and raised was my flu vaccine one so I suspect it was that one that affected me. Have reacted to the flu one before so quite likely.

Not convinced in hindsight I should have had both at the same time whilst still run down getting over a horrid cold bug.

daisychain01 · 23/10/2022 09:06

All this thread proves is that everyone is unique with unique biology and medical history. I've had 2 x Moderna in the past, no side effects with either.

The sore arm is simply the effect of a foreign object ie the needle being inserted into muscle tissue, nothing to do with the vaccine itself. They inject into the upper arm with more dense muscle tissue rather than lower down the arm where the needle would be even more painful.

tiredofthiisshit21 · 23/10/2022 09:13

Some of these replies are the reason I've decided not to have another booster. I've happily taken every one up to now but I've had enough. You don't need it for travel any more so I'm done.

LIZS · 23/10/2022 09:18

New Pfizer yesterday afternoon for dh and I. Both have sore arms around site and when moving. I didn't sleep particularly well and have a mild headache.

I don't always get a sore arm with injections though. My very first Covid jab I didn't even realise the nurse had done it until he said "all done". Didn't feel a thing and arm fine after.

Sometimes I get a sore arm with the flu jab but other times I don't. To me it seems more to do with the person giving the injection and just how good they are at it.

First 2 Covid jabs I had no side effects whatsoever. Third one was Moderna and I felt awful for a couple of days after. This one was Moderna and, again, felt awful after.

Just had my 4th this morning - Pfizer. Arm now moderately sore and I feel rather sleepy. 4 out of 5 people I know who have had a jab recently, have felt headachy and tired the following day so I await my fate! I'd planned to have it now so I'd have time to recover if needed.

Previously had 2 x AZ and 1 x Pfizer. After first I felt off for 4 hours, nothing with others (maybe sore arm, can't recall now though I know it was after the flu vaccine last year that my arm was most sore).

LIZS · 24/10/2022 17:19

Headache wore off quickly with paracetamol and soreness was much less 24 hours later.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 24/10/2022 23:13

Moderna on Saturday morning. Ok Saturday, Sunday was a wipeout. Had to go to work, very tired, felt sick. Arm is still throbbing, but is now itchy and painful.

The top half of my arm feels as if it's been stung by nettles.

Supersimkin2 · 24/10/2022 23:15

Head in bucket for two days.

Mine was my 5th. I had Astra Zenica for first 2, no issues at all. Then 3 Moderna. 2 of the 3 Moderna have floored me. I've not risked getting flu vaccine at same time. It's over 48 hours now and arm is painful, throbbing, itchy, red and swollen.

Did they tell you to drink lots of water? Apparently it causes dehydration- which explains why the first Moderna I had felt like the worst hangover ever.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 24/10/2022 23:24

Had my fourth Pfizer today and flu jab. Feel fine, a little achy at the injection sites. But I’ve been sneezing a lot. I’m a sneezer at the best of times. I had my second bout of Covid 6 weeks ago, the first in January. Both times sneezing was my first symptom. Probably coincidence.

Babyroobs · 24/10/2022 23:48

Had mine at 2pm Sunday, immediately had a terrible headache which is still ongoing. Had no sleep at all last night, aching joints etc and a sore arm.

Upsidedownagain · 25/10/2022 11:52

Feeling quite lucky....had the jab early yesterday morning. Arm began to feel sore about 3 hours later and still is but I can bear to lie on it. Felt sleepy in the afternoon and had a nap and later went to bed early. No headache or other symptoms. Feeling lazy today (off work anyway) but not sure if that's just psychological.
