Booster confusion

I'm a bit confused by the booster roll out status. I received an email /text telling me I was eligible for an autumn booster and to make an appt through the NHS site but going through the questions asked on the site I don't actually meet the eligibility criteria (not CV /living with a CV individual /a carer etc). I am 59 with mild asthma but no other health issues. I am happy to have the booster but not really happy to lie about my need for it to get an appointment . Has any one else experienced this? Will I be called forward later in the year if I ignore this invite?

I though over 50s were being offered it as standard regardless of any other medical conditions

I had exactly the same issue yesterday after I got the text then tried to book the jab. In the end I selected the 'I think I might be clinically vulnerable, but I'm not sure ' box and it let me book it.

In short, the booking system isn't fit for purpose!

Over 50s (including me!) are eligible, but like with previous rollouts, they are moving down the age cohorts. When booking first opened it was for over 70s only. Now it’s over 65s. I check each week to see if I can book yet. 50-59s will be last I suspect. I’m hoping it’s soon though.

You can see who can book online on the front page. This is updated regularly - the past twice when it changed it was on a Monday each time, the first to say over 70s could book (it having previously said you’ll be able to soon), and then over 65s.

As I understand it. There's something in your medical history or records that makes you 'high risk' .

I'm the same. I called the doctors, receptionist had no idea ehy i was invited but said if I'm invited and want it I should take it as I wouldn't have been invited if there's wasn't a reason. I'm 37.

I'm a vaccinator and HcP.

If there's any clinical code for asthma on your record then you'll be eligible but also over 50s are eligible anyway.

I was sent a text by my GP practice, but the local centre has no vaccine. I rang 119 and was told that high blood pressure was probably why I was called earlier, so to check the box to say I have a condition that makes me vulnerable. I now have an appointment for this afternoon.

Even if it was 30 years ago? I've also received an invite but had the same issue when trying to book. I also have high functioning autism but not any learning disabilities so didn't think that would make me eligible.

Thanks all - I think I'll wait until I'm actually eligible by age if they are moving down the cohorts reasonably quickly

I’ve had exactly the same, text and email asking me to book but not eligible. I suppose the option is to tick clinically vulnerable as I have medical conditions that must bout me in this category.

@Jules912 yes if it's on your record and coded still, which there's no reason for it to be removed, you would be eligible. It's basically a case of some things once diagnosed you can't be 'undiagnosed' if that makes sense?

Ah yes that does, was just surprised as never been in a priority group before.

Yes, exactly the same happened to me, although if I completed the form as if I did have a health condition the nearest vaccine centre was 30 miles away. I’m going to wait a couple of weeks and try again.

My DH 64 has just been able to book, but myself at 61 cannot. I’ve seen on local facebook groups that appointments have been cancelled due to insufficient stock and they are asking for volunteers to open more vaccine centres.

I've also been invited,I've actually been receiving 2 text messages a day this week from my GP surgery as well as NHS emails,I'm 37 and have asthma.

Not all asthmatics get it. Only those who have had a steroid inhaler in the last year. Same for flu.

If you scroll down from the page that @PorkPieAndAPickledOnion showed, it says that people 50-64 will be invited “later in autumn 2022”.

We've been doing this for so long now I'm surprised there are still questions If you can book just book it that's what tou want to do, no need for worrying about why you're been contacted.

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair I think you are missing the point. I have been invited but do not fit the criteria set out in the booking form which hasn't been the case previously so I can't book.
@Lilacsunflowers no it doesn't tell you what vaccine you will get unfortunately

I’m CEV and booked my appointment online, even so I still had to produce a letter from my consultant yesterday detailing my diagnosis and treatment before they would vaccinate as they said they’re really tough on who at the moment can book. and apparently yesterday over 50’s weren’t allowed to even though I gather online it says you can 🤔there were many disgruntled people outside the venue.

It's the Bivalent ones for this booster so either Pfizer or Moderna.
First couple of weeks we had Moderna now we have Pfizer.

I’m in my early 50s, no health issues. I was surprised/pleased to get a text message from my surgery this morning, inviting me to book my autumn booster. I’m booked in for 2 weeks time

Dh has had same issue. Email from nhs states eligible with link to book but he cannot as he does not fit their criteria. Same response via 119 and gp surgery that he needs to wait,
