Still no air filters in schools?

Is anyone else really hacked off that there are still no air filters in schools??

The kids don’t spread it / don’t get sick from covid nonsense narrative has been replaced with cases are low due to school holidays (so much nicer when covid knew to wait at the school gates!) but the government are still refusing to do something so simple which could make schools safer.

Its like they don’t want to admit it’s worth avoiding repeat covid infections so therefore have to do nothing to stop/slow the thread and risk inevitable questions.

Even if it just slows it - every covid infection is a roll of long covid etc risks - why do they seem so keen to spread it round asap.

The narrative that there is no money is a lie.

Exactly. You'd think that parents would be able to spot that there hasn't be a 'magic money tree' for anything to do with schools for the past 12 years, and yet plenty of money has been spent on other stuff.

@Endlesslypatient82 are you happy that your school has very little funding, will likely be looking to reduce staff to help pay other costs, like all other schools will have to? Are you happy that your school is likely to be struggling to get all the support they need for their SEND pupils? Are you happy that school isn’t getting any additional funding to help with the increase in utility bills? Won’t be able to afford building repairs? And the list goes on. Parents should not be happy this is happening in schools

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 10:00

But given the profession is very much moulded by the government - you seem to have spent your career is a state of fury (or sadness!)

I don't think you know the first thing about me....

On the basis of your hundreds of threads and this one too….

you are perpetually
angry
frustrated
sad

at the government and parents that don’t agree with you.

Must be utterly exhausting

I’m happy because my children are very happy and doing well at school.

simple as that

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 10:14

Ask your kids' school how much of a budget deficit they have to make up due to the late announcement of an unfunded teacher pay rise and increased energy costs, and what will be cut to afford these.

Snugglemonkey · 28/08/2022 10:14

We need to get the basics like heat and food sorted before we can even think of a massive nation wide spending spree on this.

Flapjacker48 · 28/08/2022 10:15

Schools are never going to have the covid "regime" that teachers like noblegiraffe want. If they can't accept this then they should look at their options. Or they could just post on MN endlessly all day all month all year of course.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 10:15

Love it when the threads turn to personal attacks/faux sympathy. Shows the lack of any actual argument.

Which is precisely what @noblegiraffe seems to do

Nope.

The point at which my children aren’t happy or I think they aren’t getting a good education is the point at which I speak to my children’s school

Considering the horrendous workload that certain teachers on here complain about, the job certainly seems to allow enough time to be a permanent presence on MN. Might do a pgce.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 10:22

Please do a PGCE, there's a critical shortage of teachers for some reason.

I honestly can’t imagine a job I would be less suited to! 😂

Endlesslypatient82 · 28/08/2022 10:25

I’m in awe of my children’s teachers. They phenomenal.

And thankfully they don’t seem perpetually angry and pissed off!

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 10:30

You do understand that schools and teachers put a front onto parents, don't you?

The fact that you don't want to ask them about their autumn budget suggests you are happy in blissful ignorance.

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 10:30

And parents ignoring the state that our education is in is why the Government get away with the lack of funding for it.

All the parents during lockdown shouting out that the schools needed to be open, what about the vulnerable children! Now their precious child is back in school getting an education they don’t care about the vulnerable children anymore. Schools need so many more resources to help these children

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 10:33

Now their precious child is back in school getting an education

For some it seems 'back in school' is enough.

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 10:33

@Endlesslypatient82 I became a governor at my DC’s school. When I was there as a parent the picture painted by the teacher was lovely and rosy. My DC had a happy teacher and had a good education. No complaints. As a governor my eyes were well and truly opened about the state of education in this country, everything is not lovely and rosy

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 10:38

I wonder how many parents will still be happy if they find out their child is going to be taught by a TA rather than a teacher or be in a class of 60 as schools can’t afford to pay for a class teacher. Or will they just be happy and satisfied that their child is in school

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 10:46

There are parents already unhappy that their kid is being taught by a TA, but plenty of people willing to jump on a thread and tell them that this is just fine.

I don't think parents were happy when some kids I know didn't have any teacher for a large part of their A-level course and they were expected to teach themselves.

So they put on a front

but they still expect parents to “act”?
