Still no air filters in schools?

Is anyone else really hacked off that there are still no air filters in schools??

The kids don’t spread it / don’t get sick from covid nonsense narrative has been replaced with cases are low due to school holidays (so much nicer when covid knew to wait at the school gates!) but the government are still refusing to do something so simple which could make schools safer.

Its like they don’t want to admit it’s worth avoiding repeat covid infections so therefore have to do nothing to stop/slow the thread and risk inevitable questions.

Even if it just slows it - every covid infection is a roll of long covid etc risks - why do they seem so keen to spread it round asap.

Sometimes they post on MN to tell parents what's going on.

And then get slated for it...

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 10:57

But then teachers can come on places like here and tell the truth, but then they get told they are just moaning and obviously hate kids and should leave the profession. Or it is the unions being problematic

Alwayswonderedwhy · 28/08/2022 10:59

Hadn't given it a though? Where are you OP? Was this something being talked about in the country you're in?

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 11:01

It’s like most workplaces though. If you work in retail I am sure you are meant to put on a happy face in front of the customers even if your working conditions are crap. Same with the NHS, nurses looking after the patients are going to concentrate on the patient’s health not the state of the NHS

So…

the schools and teachers “put on a front”

but you still expect us parents to rise up?

Because I’m RL…. Our experience is dealing with the supposed “front” you “put on” to us.

So you want us to take the word of an anonymous chat forum over our actual RL engagement with you at our childrens schools?

I thought you'd advanced searched me? My threads are usually accompanied by data and links that show there are massive issues in state education. I don't expect anyone to take my word for it.

Plenty of parents are experiencing it for themselves. More definitely will in the Autumn.

Some seem to brush off glaringly obvious problems like the fact that classrooms were freezing last winter and boiling this summer as if that isn't a problem and that kids should just suck it up rather than it actually being an issue that affects quality of education.

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 11:16

@Endlesslypatient82 do you actually believe everything is fine in the education sector? Do you believe there isn’t a teacher retention crisis, a funding crisis?

You need to whisper to parents at your school when you’re putting on your “front”

”AS me on mumsnet, my user name is @noblegiraffe”.

I know it is hard to believe, but there will be many parents that haven’t even hard of mumsnet (gasp!!!)

and those that have, may give you a quizzical look and ask to have a word with the head

Endlesslypatient82 · 28/08/2022 11:20

why would I actively look for issues to get angry about when I am actively very happy with my childrens school, I think they are doing a superb job, and most importantly… they are very happy there.

If that was to change, then I would click on those links maybe

None so blind as those who will not see.

No I don’t. I see there are problems.

but I don’t believe that my children are suffering in any way, and quite honestly I don’t have the time or inclination to start rising up about an issue that doesn’t effect me or my children!

Combination of can’t be arsed and no need as I keep on saying - I highly regard my childrens school, they are doing well and they love it.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 11:23

How old are they?

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 11:24

Endlesslypatient82 · 28/08/2022 11:25

Endlesslypatient82 · 28/08/2022 11:25

Where do you all think the money for this is going to come from?

Still no one manage to answer this question.

Apart from the mythical magic money tree.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 11:28

Yep, no money for schools, ever. No reason to invest in education.

Maximo2 · 28/08/2022 11:29

But given the profession is very much moulded by the government - you seem to have spent your career is a state of fury (or sadness!) .

Show me a teacher who has spent a happy blissful career because their profession is ‘moulded’ by the government.

Bet you can’t even find one. The government is not what motivates your children’s teachers - thank fuck. Or we’d be in an even worse recruitment and retention crisis than we are now.

It’s a mark of a argument that is totally lost when any poster starts being personal and spiteful and your exact turning point is glaringly obvious and shameful. I’d be asking for my posts to be retracted if I were you - you should be utterly ashamed of yourself.

Neverfullycharged · 28/08/2022 11:32

I think the time for increased ventilation has passed, honestly.

Schools do need money but it also needs to be spent in a way that directly benefits students. It doesn’t, always.

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 11:33

So if one of your Secondary school children (non Private) wanted to study a subject and couldn’t because the school have had to drop that subject due to funding or if their Maths teacher leaves and they end up being taught by a non-Maths specialist as they can neither afford to replace the teacher or can’t recruit a maths specialist, will you still be happy?
