Still no air filters in schools?

Is anyone else really hacked off that there are still no air filters in schools??

The kids don’t spread it / don’t get sick from covid nonsense narrative has been replaced with cases are low due to school holidays (so much nicer when covid knew to wait at the school gates!) but the government are still refusing to do something so simple which could make schools safer.

Its like they don’t want to admit it’s worth avoiding repeat covid infections so therefore have to do nothing to stop/slow the thread and risk inevitable questions.

Even if it just slows it - every covid infection is a roll of long covid etc risks - why do they seem so keen to spread it round asap.

And where is the money for this coming from OP?

GiveMeNovocain · 28/08/2022 08:44

I'm sure recycling the air endlessly through a mini filter that no one will change will make all the difference

It will briefly shut up some people harping on about it, so positive in that sense.

but then they will move on….

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/08/2022 08:46

Dark forces 😂😂😂😂

I've heard it al know.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 08:48

I remember a time when people cared about kids missing school.

I remember a time when people cared about kids missing school.

I remember a time when teacher's unions lobbied for shut schools.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 08:55

So you don't care about kids missing school now because it's the fault of covid and not teachers' unions?

GiveMeNovocain · 28/08/2022 08:59

My child has missed far more school with ridiculous covid mitigation policies than she'll ever do with covid. Along with the vast majority of other children. So no, I'll never trust another word from teacher's unions again.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 09:01

So you are happy for kids to miss school due to covid and are against any measures that could be taken to prevent that.

Good to clarify.

GiveMeNovocain · 28/08/2022 09:01

She's had over 6 months of closed schools. Close contact isolations. 5 days off with covid (needed 3 max, 2 days forced isolating). This whole pandemic she's needed 3 days off and had months. And I'm the one who doesn't care about education? Right

toomuchlaundry · 28/08/2022 09:02

I wonder how many parents will be complaining that their children are cold at school when the windows are open and no heating?

GiveMeNovocain · 28/08/2022 09:03

If I believed you'd stop at air filters I might consider it but teachers literally made my child sit in a taped of square 2m away from any other during the welsh keep in touch days. Teaching unions lobbied for that level of cruelty

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 09:04

You're arguing against cleaner air in classrooms, Novocain.

GiveMeNovocain · 28/08/2022 09:28

I've decided I don't trust anyone who tells me they're making my child miserable for their own good and I don't think for a second that recycling air stops covid.

Was there a background violinist playing as you sadly tapped out this post?

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 09:39

It is indeed a pretty fucking sad state of affairs that some people are happy with such low standards for their kids' education.

Clean air? Next thing they'll be wanting a reasonable temperature in classrooms in winter and summer. Then they'll be demanding something is done about the lack of fire safety measures and the asbestos.

"I demand the right to send my kid into as shitty an environment as possible".

It's not recycling. Have you read any if the research?

Endlesslypatient82 · 28/08/2022 09:41

@noblegiraffe

just AS you.

Has it occurred to you that you are in totally the wrong profession. You seem to despise the industry. Pre covid, thread after thread after thread about everything that is wrong wrong wrong about teaching.

and then covid came along… and it took you to whole new level of disgust and anger with the profession.

I am honestly SO so happy with my childrens school. Superb.

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 09:44

Anger with the profession? Why would I be angry with the teaching profession?

Angry with the government for running it into the ground, yes. Angry at the shit state of schools, yes.

Worried about the state of education, yes.

Any parent should be.

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/08/2022 09:49

Where do you all think the money for this is going to come from?

noblegiraffe · 28/08/2022 09:54

There is never any money for anything to do with schools or kids, is there?

Not for improving ventilation during an airborne pandemic, not for implementing the covid recovery plan recommended by the government's own advisor. Not for funding a pay rise for teachers, not for supporting schools with energy bills. Not for building new schools that comply with basic safety measures, nor for repairing ones that don't meet minimum safety standards.

There's never any money when it comes to schools. Same old.

But given the profession is very much moulded by the government - you seem to have spent your career is a state of fury (or sadness!) .

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/08/2022 09:49

Where do you all think the money for this is going to come from?

The narrative that there isn't enough money to properly fund initiatives or even education in general is a false one. There is always money for the Government's "Project of the Day" or to support their priorities. It's simply that state education isn't a priority for the Tory Government. That's why funding is still below 2010's levels in real terms.

There was money to fund an entirely useless and failed track and trace app. There was money to funnel into the pockets of friends and doners for unfulfilled PPE contracts. Hell, even the money Rishi wasted by not insuring and servicing the national debt, as he was told to do, would have been more than enough to pay for filters for every classroom and much more.

The narrative that there is no money is a lie.

This was never on the cards though, was it? I think the heating bills will be more of an issue…

It's always too hot in my DCs' school anyway. They'd all quite like it if the heating were turned down a bit.
