Reports that nearly everyone that went to Glastonbury came back with covid.

It was on the news but also lots of fb posts from people saying buy a lottery ticket if you didn't get covid at Glastonbury because you are that lucky as so many have.

Hardly surprising I know but it seems its absolutely rife at the moment and it's highly contagious.

Not good news for hospitals and care homes who still have to follow rules around self isolation. Care Homes still have to lockdown if 2 member of staff or mote test positive and lots of hospital staff will also be off.

Always amazes me when people know exactly when they caught it. Unless they've been going absolutely nowhere other than a jubilee party or an airport, there's no way of knowing.

I'd imagine work and school - both places you're expected to be, in the main, even if you have covid (and frankly how would you know anyway, given most aren't testing) - are far more likely to be where people are catching it.

Well DH and I work from home ... got on plane ... symptoms kicked in within 48 hours. So generally if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck ... it's a duck 🤷‍♀️ every case I heard of was traced to a flight, a wedding or a party type event. Symptoms seem to strike fast with this one. All so far have been fine but it really is bloody infectious.

Usually seems to be people certain they caught it off someone who was sniffing or coughing on here, makes a nice change for it to be about the event instead!

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 30/06/2022 22:29

I have it, my mum has it, my dd has it, my sister had it, 2 friends from work had it and . 2 family fri3nds have it... non of us went to Glastonbury... it’s just rife at the moment. Guarantee most people from Glastonbury haven’t even tested themselves.

flumposie · 30/06/2022 22:42

I tested positive on Tuesday. I'm trying to pin point where I got it from but it's pointless. Was it work? Hairdressers? Concert at the weekend? Before testing I'd been on 4 trains, a cafe, shops so possibly I've spread it and someone in the future will be wondering how they caught it ( possibly from me!). I only tested because I'd been so dizzy all day so not even a classic symptom, but tested on a whim.

Sallypally0 · 30/06/2022 22:45

I bet people have come back from fesitvals with worse diseases.

Fizbosshoes · 30/06/2022 22:46

DD either got it from school or a Harry Styles concert. She had been nowhere else in the preceding days. School for 1 hr 30 min for an exam and the concert. There was a queue for more than 1 hr to get on the tube and I imagine the tubes were rammed so I can see how it would spread. However it was basically like a bad cold for her, and she was negative by day 6, but she did isolate at home for 5 days.

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

@Crikeyalmighty but presumably you and your more vulnerable friends wouldn’t be risking the likes of Glastonbury or anything else with masses of people up close, e.g. Wimbledon. From all I’ve heard it does seem to be a very mild illness for the majority.(I’m older than you BTW)

Are you suggesting that vulnerable people shouldn't go to Wimbledon? Or the theatre, the cinema, or other fun places presumably? Vulnerable people are not all elderly, you know.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/07/2022 07:55

@Dishh, of course not. . Merely that extra vulnerable people of whatever age may often prefer to avoid seething hordes of people.

I'm a CEV person. I don't necessarily "prefer" to avoid events and places like this; I'd like to live like an ordinary person too. Should I and people like me stay away?

What I do is make sure I'm up-to-date with my vaccinations, wear a mask while there, and avoid unnecessary contact with groups of people I don't know (ie. no mosh-pits!). I do the same when travelling as now I can travel again, you bet I'm going to do it. I'll just do it with precautions.

ApplesandBunions · 01/07/2022 08:47

It's for every CEV person to decide for themselves how they prefer to respond to the reality that covid will be present in all crowded public spaces. Not appropriate for anyone to make assumptions.

Some real hysteria on here, everyone has it. The cold!

Can I ask, is covid classed as basically the same as a cold then? I mean medically? Are you medical and can explain why some doctors act as if it’s more serious than a cold?

I know it causes the same symptoms as a cold for most people, but does that mean it acts exactly like the common cold inside the body? I had read its now classed as an inflammation disease rather than a respiratory one, is that correct? And the number of complications it causes, is that the same as the amount the common cold causes?

AmaryIlis · 01/07/2022 09:40

Does anyone know what's happened to the vaccination programme? Other countries seem to be way ahead of us with the 4th booster.

2Two · 01/07/2022 09:42

People who keep claiming the current version is no worse than a cold do seem to be pursuing some sort of agenda. For me, it was more like very bad flu for well over a week, with continued after-effects, and that's been the experience of most people I know who have had covid recently.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 01/07/2022 09:43

So?

And? You essentially got the flu.
Rough for you but why anyone should have their life curtailed on the basis that their experience could be that they too feel rough for a week or so - is just baffling

This! You got bad flu, so what? Life must go on.

toomuchlaundry · 01/07/2022 12:39

I don't think people are saying we shouldn't go back to normal, but are people getting other illnesses at the same hit rate as COVID? For many it is not like a cold, and if many people are getting flu symptoms that can impact businesses if more people are off sick for longer.

On many threads it is stated that everyone will get COVID at some point. Many people seem to get it more than once. If a percentage of people who have COVID get long term health issues, even if it is a small percentage, that will still make up a reasonable number of people. In my circle of friends I don't remember anyone having flu, but many of them have had COVID and 3 of them have now been very ill for over a year which has greatly impacted on their life, and at the moment there is no light at the end of the tunnel for them

Who’s pushing an agenda?

it was milder than a cold when I had it 3 weeks ago. I’m sorry yours was worse but it’s my lived experience and not an agenda.

I'm with you on this.

For years now we've heard tales of people being "floored" and "wiped out". Honestly, so what? There are hundreds of viruses that leave you feeling like shit, in bed, wiped out. The idea that this one should be different, now, with effective vaccines, just doesn't seem to want to go away.

I won't even say what I think about people talking about bringing masks back! They were ever so effective the first time round weren't they Hmm

I know a few people who went for most of 2020 and 2021 without getting ill with anything, really liked this (as you would!), but now have sort of forgotten how being ill works. So you get “oh you definitely don’t want to get Covid, Jackie had it and she was really very poorly and we were all quite worried about her”, but then you find out Jackie was in bed for a few days and took some paracetamol. Not great fun for Jackie, but not something we’d have counted as ‘really very poorly’ back in 2019 surely?

CoffeeWithCheese · 01/07/2022 13:43

MumsnetMafia · 30/06/2022 16:42

Crock of shit. The crowds gathering in London were far greater and no one batted an eye about COVID for that. I know a few people who went to Glasto and have been fine.

Yep because they were all nice and pro a dear old lady Queen and establishment whereas Glastonbury is lots of young people having fun and that cannot possibly be allowed without CONSEQUENCES.

SexyLittleNosferatu · 01/07/2022 13:58

Exactly GoldenOmber! "Really very poorly" is as overused as selfish and "the virus doesn't care if you don't like x, y and z".

You have to balance it, and it's tricky
I'm immunocompromised for life, not just a few months or years so it's balancing living and risks of Covid (plus other illness)

Aye, bollocks to that.

I'm CEV. I've had covid six times and I'm quadruple jabbed. Five out of the six ckivd infections I've had were when I was living like a monk, barely going anywhere, never seeing anyone, life was shit. Yet I still caught it five times.

Done with that. I'm going to keep catching it because I'm immunosuppressed whatever I do. So I might as well have a bit of a life. Just a gig/theatre visit/meal out now and again, I'm not exactly licking stranger's faces. Though that could be fun.
