Remember all those posters who said we should 'look east' for how to deal with Covid?

I wonder if they still think that?

Some of the news coming out of that part of the world is so distressing.

I do think our government made a balls up of it too, and in many respects still are (particularly with regard to CEV people). But hopefully what we're seeing when we 'look east' now will give anyone still desperate for lockdowns and restrictions (and there are still a fair few, sadly) pause for thought.

@mmmmmmghturep

Our lockdowns didnt seem minor to me. It is this minimization of peoples sacrifices which will ensure non compliance should (God forbid) there be a next time.

Because there are plenty who think lockdown should become policy.

I meant in relative terms of course. I think lockdowns were a huge waste and the impacts will be felt for years to come, but however bad you think our lockdowns were, we weren't locking people in apartment buildings, families weren't being separated and hauled off to what are little better than concentration camps, and people could still get food.

That people in this country were agitating for exactly what is happening now in China is frankly terrifying. What worries me is that it was government incompetence that stopped it here, rather than a real reluctance to do it.

@Notlabeled I TOTALLY agree.

I don't think very many people, if anyone, thought we should be following China?

When, for example, JVT said we could learn from the "3 Cs", he would have been looking to countries like Japan and South Korea, who have a culture of caution around transmission of respiratory disease now. Sorry, just saw this and don't have time to RTFT
