Positive LFT... do I need a confirmatory PCR for a Recovery Certificate?

I tested positive on LFT this morning and reported it to the NHS website. But the information on the site was just about advising me to try to stay at home for 5 days. The NHS website just says "You can no longer get a free PCR test."

I'm not that fussed about confirming it with a PCR but I would quite like to eventually get evidence of COVID recovery (for travelling in future). None of the website makes it clear whether I'll be able to certify COVID Recovery from a LFT.

Following as we are due to travel on 26th April and I have tested positive on a LFT as well but can’t find guidance about the recovery pass

Nejnej · 09/04/2022 17:05

Following, same issue!

RedSnail · 09/04/2022 17:48

You can’t get this free through the nhs any more though there are some private providers

The problem is that it's not clear whether a private PCR will work for the purposes of an NHS Recovery Certificate!

So I googled around a bit and the info on here
www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-covid-pass
states:
Proof of recovery from prior COVID-19 infection if you have tested positive on an NHS PCR test in the last 180 days is also shown.

Which is Confused since there are no longer NHS PCR tests.

I think we have to for the recovery certs now Sad

Watapalava · 09/04/2022 19:44

you shouldnt need a recovery cert given england gov and nhs advice is for adults not to test anymore

HangingOver · 09/04/2022 19:47

We issue them at work (private testing provider) and we only issue them for positive pcrs.

Brunonononooo · 09/04/2022 20:02

@Watapalava I need one to travel to the US in a few weeks as I do currently have covid, if travelling soon I think lots of people will still test if they have to have a negative test before hand

My DH had the same issue and the entry test can be a supervised LFT so you should be ok in a few weeks.

Brunonononooo · 09/04/2022 20:46

@Jules912 thank you I am hoping so!

I’m frantically googling as I’m having the same problem! All I seem to find is that the advice for getting a recovery pass is to do the NHS PCR which we can no longer get? So confused.

KetchupKetchup · 11/04/2022 13:20

Same problem here! Traveling on 21st and the LFTs are still blazingly positive.

What’s worse is that we’re going to Portugal and Portugal doesn’t seem to accept just any recovery certificates. It has to be the EU Digital Covid Certificate or the UK’s equivalent which is the NHS Covid Pass.

It’s really frustrating that the government has just stopped NHS PCR tests but then also won’t recognize private ones for the NHS Covid Pass.

Anyone been to Portugal with a private recovery certificate?

octopusrus · 11/04/2022 14:53

If you're fully vaccinated you should be able to use the nhs app to prove this rather than having to use the recovery certificate? If you're not though I'm not sure so sorry if I'm confusing things...

PoisoningPigeons · 11/04/2022 15:05

Some countries ask for information about COVID recovery in addition to vaccination history, so (for me personally) I just wanted to have all my records included.

amicissimma · 11/04/2022 15:31

For Portugal you don't need a test if you're vaccinated. If you're not they accept a certified negative LFT.

If you're still testing positive on LFT, it would be courteous of you not to fly.

KetchupKetchup · 11/04/2022 17:17

@amicissimma we're not vaccinated. I don't think testing positive on an LFT two and a half weeks after the first positive LFT would mean that we were still contagious...

SafeMove · 11/04/2022 17:46

We are having the same probem. DS2 (14) has had his first vaccine, but tested positive three weeks ago on LFT. Guidance was no PCR. He was very poorly and tested positive releatedly. Reported LFT to gov uk.

Now found out he can't have his 2nd vaccine yet as it has to be 90 days after infection for under 18's. We ard flying to Spain 21st May. So to get in he needs either:

  1. A recovery certificate, which can't get as no PCR done
  2. A second vaccine, which he can't have due to 90 day rule
  3. A £79 confirmatory negative fit to fly PCR

Wonder which one we will have to do? Suspect we will have to pay. Quelle Surprise.

NiceViper · 11/04/2022 17:53

Positive test in the family today

She got a text giving a code to put in to the NHS covid app.

Is that for a recovery pass or for (vestigial) contact tracing ?

SafeMove · 11/04/2022 18:01

@NiceViper is it a LFT or a PCR?

NiceViper · 11/04/2022 18:05

LFT

(and in light of this thread I'm guessing contact tracing rather than Recovery Certificate, but it would be nice to know. All the text said was to input it in to the app, no indication why!)

EstellaHanclay · 11/04/2022 19:51

So am I right in thinking that if I pay for a covid recovery certificate then that will be ok? For further info I am unvaccinated and travelling to Spain. Will they accept a private company and if so which ones are reputable? So many questions...

Watapalava · 11/04/2022 20:14

Vax centres do not know if you have tested positive

Both my kids had their second vax 3 weeks after covid - I just didn’t mention it and it doesn’t show. Everywhere in the world except uk is 2-3 weeks post covid!

As for recovery certs you can buy them on insta for £25

Pcr with randox fit to fit are £45.

Currently unvax over 17 can’t travel to Spain even with pcr (for info)

amicissimma · 11/04/2022 20:50

" I don't think testing positive on an LFT two and a half weeks after the first positive LFT would mean that we were still contagious... "

It's not me you have to convince; it's the Portugese authorities, who may not agree with you.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 11/04/2022 20:52

I'm pretty sure you can get proof of infection past on the covid app with just a positive LFT. Have you tried to log on and download a travel pass?

Brunonononooo · 13/04/2022 09:22

I am going to try and download mine next week (is it 10 days after the positive test normally…?) but currently my travel pass just says my vaccine status. Im 5 days post positive test.

It’s so confusing now, I suspect we will also end up paying for a private recovery letter for my husband just in case…
