Hello all! Sorry I've been lax lately, off running around busy with life. Quick question, is there a new variant infecting people within crazily short timeframes like just one day? Within the last few days my radar has been pinging away, I can see some obvious rises the last few days but it's too soon to see a pattern because rises are moving between areas. Lower test ratio to hospitalisation isn't helpful to analysis. I can't see anything suggesting this from reports, but admit to skim-reading!

MargaretThursday · 10/06/2022 21:16

@MRex ZoeApp has been rising since 4th June so maybe.

Thanks @boys3 really appreciate this.

I'm not sure how much use the daily figures are now, as most people I know who have it haven't reported it since tests were optional, but it still gives an idea.

@MargaretThursday I'd agree the daily cases are.....................of little real value; hence just the health metrics (including deaths) and the ONS survey are may main interest.

ONS survey wise today's report indicated signs of an uptick

the seven day average for number in hospital in England is up a bit, 3%. Not up everywhere though, and SE and SW with biggest increase, both around 12-13%

Thanks for the graphs boys.
Here's an update from Professor Pagel which includes some information on what's happening with different variants:

That's interesting. I wonder if the lower rate in children is that they're less likely to show symptoms/people think "just a cold" or whether schools were so rife over the winter that there is some herd immunity.

quick health metrics update for England.

Starting with admissions percentage change in the seven day average as compared with a week earlier.

then this is the same thing but based from when the seven day average week on week increase started in each wave (since end Aug 2020) through to the point where it began to fall. The x-axis is therefore simply an elapsed days count.
