Do you still wear a mask at the supermarket?

Interesting there's so many yeses. When I go shopping hardly anyone has a mask on. Mumsnet never seems to reflect reality on any subject. Its weird.
There's probably a bit of 'following what others do' about it too. In the supermarket I shop in, most people still choose to wear them, which probably prompts others to pop theirs on too. If you go somewhere very few are wearing them, it becomes a bit "what's the point?" for some people.

You do realise MN covers not only the whole of the UK, but the whole of the World ? It also (though skewed) covers all income groups, all education levels, all nationalities and most religions plus those with none, all political spectrum, a whole age range, people with jobs, people without jobs, and virtually any other variance you can think of?

There are lots of things that people post on MN that amaze me, but also lots I recognise. Odd to think you never resonate with anything said, especially when there are topics with such polarised views.

I think it varies massively based on setting and yes, what others are doing. We went to ikea on Saturday and most people were without a mask. To the extent that I felt weird actually wearing one. Tesco here too is mostly a mask free zone. Waitrose on the other hand seems to have a slightly older clientele and and most are still masked. It will feel very odd for me when masks aren’t needed anymore. I was in central London in summer on ‘freedom day’ and was shouted at on the tube for still wearing my ‘muzzle’ Confused

HesterShaw1 · 21/02/2022 12:07

No I don't.

I stopped at new year when my anxiety was getting out of control. My health isn't worth less than other people's

SenecaFallsRedux · 21/02/2022 12:08

When I posted "yes" I didn't mention that I am in the US. The number of people masking in shops appears to be declining where I live, but there is a substantial number of people who still mask.

Yes but I do sometimes wonder why. Hardly anyone else is even staff aren’t bothered.“

We’ll there’s your answer. Because hardly anyone else is.
I wear a fresh FFP3 each time. Husband is CEV so important to us.
Because it protects me, I don’t mind in the least what other people do.

What do you do with all the ones you discard? You must get through absolutely loads.
deadlanguage · 21/02/2022 12:12

Yes. Once I forgot to put it on when I went in and put it on when I was halfway round which was probably pointless but my face felt naked 😆
I’ll probably carry on wearing one on public transport (which is how I commute) forever but not sure about when I’ll stop for shops. I still haven’t had covid which makes me a bit wary.

Yes - to enable people who are nervous or especially vulnerable to COVID to still come out and do their shopping.

Unfortunately when isolation ends those people won't feel able to do their shopping whether a handful of people are wearing masks or not.

Are we still calling people selfish? And assuming people who aren't wearing masks are?

How very 2020.

Oysterbabe · 21/02/2022 13:10

No, I don't wear mine at all any more. I can't wait until the restrictions are completely gone and we can stop all this 'take a test!' pressure if you so much as clear your throat.

Yes. Seems to be a significant minority who still are round here. Perhaps like me they have underlying health conditions and it's a small thing to continue to do.

Me too. I think those days are coming. 😎

Yes

Stripyhoglets1 · 21/02/2022 15:38

Yes. It makes sense it will reduce the chance of me catching something (not just covid) if my gob and nostrils have something in front of them.
So many people will be out and about with possible covid I feel it would be mad to stop now.

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/02/2022 15:47

Masks primarily stop the wearer from passing things on to others.

Hairwizard · 21/02/2022 15:51

Never did.

Nothing like trying to guilt trip people. #Hero
