I thought they said omicron was mild?

Everyone i know said it was just like a cold.

So far i've had : dizzy spells, horrendous migrance, sinus pain, burning eyes, body aches, on/off nausea, bad stomach, tickly cough, pressure in nose, insomnia and general feeling like utter crap/anxious.

This isnt what everyone described where its just sniffles or a cough. People I have know have had it for a couple days with no symptons at all!

Have i got a different variant, has anyone else experienced these symptons with omricon?

OP posts:

I'm triple jabbed OP and had pretty much all your symptoms. The stomach thing threw mw, what's all that about?!

The fever/chills went after 3 days and was replaced by incredible fatigue. It's not like a cold, more flu I'd say. Still getting a firm positive a week later. Hope you feel better soon.

ThreeLocusts · 18/02/2022 09:36

Hi OP, our whole family of 5 recently had covid - where we are 99% of cases are omicron too and I have every reason to assume that's what we had.

It's hit everyone differently; two of five never had to go to bed (but one of them still felt crap); one lost sense of smell, another had three days of fever; I've had sinus pain, cough, headaches and pronounced general malaise. We've been saying to each other that if this is the 'mild' version of covid we're lucky to have escaped the nastier one. Oh, and we're all fully vaxxed.

So while it's less dangerous omicron is still a pain. Hope you feel better soon.

Lollipop858 · 18/02/2022 09:52

DD 14 just had Omicron, she had nothing more than sneezing and runny nose. DD 13 had Delta back in September and only had a headache and stuff nose. My eldest had it about a year ago and was quite unwell with flu like symptoms manageable at home fine though. I’ve not to my knowledge had it yet.. touch wood.

Mulhollandmagoo · 18/02/2022 09:52

We tested positive last October, so we had delta and they were the symptoms we had, mine were fairly mild, I was able to function but my husband had it rough like you have, he was much better after about 3 days though! lots of fluids and lots of rest if you can, we took the lemsip all in one liquid (the neon green one) and that stuff was brilliant for us Flowers

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/02/2022 09:54

I had Covid in November and felt like that. Think it was delta. Had it in January and it was like the sniffles

SchrodingersUnicorn · 18/02/2022 09:58

I know several people who had Delta in October and then Omicron recently. They all said Omicron was much worse for them, and they had to take far more time off work as they were unable to even work from home with Omicron. It seems to be less 'dangerous' but anecdotally hitting younger people harder. I'm a teacher and omicron seems to have hit the teenagers harder as well. But it is all still 'mild' as long as you aren't in hospital. That's what they mean by 'mild'. It can mean 3 weeks bedbound.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 18/02/2022 10:11

I have no idea what variant me and DH have but we have the following:
Fever - temp with chills etc.
headache - migraine like.
Body aches all over - feel like a lead weight and stiff.
Cough and sore chest.
Sore throat and swollen glands.
Nausea.
Stomach ache.
Tinnitus.
Really blocked nose / sinuses.
Dizziness / vertigo.
Exhaustion.

Bloody awful! But tbh I’ve considered it mild as other than taking it in turns to be in bed and dosed up on paracetamol, we’ve not had to get any other treatment.
Both fully vaxxed and boosted.

Kids are both fine (they’ve had covid, very very mildly, before) and full of energy.

Blubells · 18/02/2022 10:19

So i was not expecting to feel hit like a bus

Op, why are you avoiding telling us whether you're vaccinated?

TinyTear · 18/02/2022 10:28

@Jestal My family just had it and everyone was wildly different

Child 10y - sore throat and temperature for 2 days - perfect since then, bit of a cough

Me (wrong side of 45, triple jabbed) - sore throat, headache, blocked AND runny nose, sinus pains, conjunctivitis, fever spiking in the evening, cough, tiredness - hit me like a ton of bricks

DH (nearly 50, triple jabbed) - sore throat, headache, lost his voice - only had temp one day

Child 6yo - NOTHING - testing negative throughout and it's been 2 weeks since child 1 came down with it...

Ivchangedmynameforthis · 18/02/2022 10:32

I have covid. Day 9 and still testing positive. Day 1 - 5 I felt absolutely shockingly unwell. Cant remember the last time iv felt that awful. Day 5 onwards just a snotty nose and slight headache.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 18/02/2022 11:26

It is mild in most cases. Everyone reacts differently. Just like the flu - most people are fine after a few days, some are hospitalised, and some die.

I'm unvaccinated and had Covid for the first time a few weeks ago. It was incredibly mild for me. I've never had the flu jab or the flu, so wasn't sure what to expect. But my husband and two children all unvaccinated were virtually asymptomatic.

Soubriquet · 18/02/2022 11:30

Whatever strain I had in the last 12 weeks seems to have left me with nerve damage and permanent exhaustion.

crossstitchingnana · 18/02/2022 11:33

I am on day 4, triple jabbed and I feel awful. So fed up. Dizzy, nauseous, breathless.

Zazdar · 18/02/2022 11:57

As somebody else said, it’s all relative and depends what you are comparing it to. My husband was ill for weeks with the original strain. He got so weak he had to crawl to the loo if I wasn’t there to help him.

Based on that, I think you have very mild symptoms.

EmpressSuiko · 18/02/2022 11:57

I don’t know what variant we’ve had but it’s been a case of a mild headache, mild stomach ache for a day or two, but I’d a sore throats and some general aches and pains, sneezing, runny nose and a slight cough.
It’s been like a bad cold and I’m super thankful for that as I’ve been so worried about catching it! Some family member who recently had covid were hit a lot harder than us though and were feeling very I’ll with it

CovidCurious · 18/02/2022 17:39

I had what I am sure was Omicron on Boxing Day. It was much grimmer than I expected, having been boosted a month earlier. Palpitations, horrific night sweats, fatigue and muscle aches were my main symptoms. They lasted about 12 days and then came back on and off through January. Hope you feel better soon.

LynetteScavo · 18/02/2022 17:58

OP, you don't say if you're vaccinated or not. If you're not vaccinated your symptoms are mild.

2boysand1princess · 18/02/2022 19:10
@MooseBeTimeForSnow thats what I thought. I had family memebers that caught delta last yr and my symptons resemble theres more than anyone i've heard that has had omricon. I hope that is not the case as the delta variant was horrible for them
You sound like my colleague. She had covid in January and had similar symptoms to you. She also had covid a few weeks prior( early December) and symptoms were worse. She had delta before and must’ve had omricon second time. I also had covid in dec and again in jan too, so probably had both variants, however I had zero symptoms on both occasions though. I think it just affects everyone differently.
Omricon is supposed to be milder than delta, however my colleague had symptoms with both variants that put her to bed for a week.
I think it’s still considered quite mild if you don’t end up in hospital needing treatment or advice.

Whathefisgoingon · 18/02/2022 20:15

Delta is extremely rare now. You almost certainly have Omicron.

Everyone is different, we know that by now and that’s what makes it so scary. People are still being hospitalised with Omciron, and people are still dying of Omicron, so with that in mind it’s clear that not everyone will just have “sniffles” because there’s an area between asymptomatic & severe which is probably where you are at.

I had covid recently and lost my taste and smell, apparently a “delta thing” yet most people I know who have had it recently also lost it.

Piper90 · 18/02/2022 20:16

But you’re not on a ventilator, so it’s mild

Abraxan · 18/02/2022 21:15
@SplashinginPuddles1 for day 0 of testing positive i wouldnt consider that mild!
Medically 'mild' covid just refers to anything you're not hospitalised for.

My first bout of covid was 'upgraded' to moderate as I spent three days in hospital. Was classed as mild the day before. My second bout was classed as mild despite some symptoms being much worse. But I didn't get admitted into hospital that time.

treeflowercat · 18/02/2022 22:49

@dizzydizzydizzy

I've had similar symptoms and have been wondering it it's delta.

Started Monday. Have been resting and taking fluids religiously since. Feel somewhat better today. Glands down, no headache so far and sore throat noticeably better.

It is more like a cold now - coughing up yellowy greeny phlegm.

Recent genomic studies show there is virtually no Delta any more in the U.K. You almost certainly had Omicron.

Omicron is MILDER than Delta, on average. It isn't universally mild.

Some people seem to struggle with the concept that the same virus can impact people very differently. Just because it's mild for some, doesn't mean it's mild for everyone....

The flu is like this too though people don't tend to realise it... 1/3 cases of are asymptomatic.

treeflowercat · 18/02/2022 22:55

@Pennox

We don’t know is it’s omicron we’ve just been told that omicron has out competed delta and is now almost 100pc dominant. I don’t think there’s much chance of it not being omicron but it could be the nastier Omicron variant or a new emerging variant I suppose.

I’m not sure how healthy you were is a deciding factor. I’m very healthy with no underlying conditions or medications and I’ve had it fairly bad it seems. I suspect type of immune system might have something to do with it. Mine is reactive and I had quite noticeable side effects from the first vaccine, had an allergic reaction to the first, get hay fever etc. I think maybe some immune systems ‘over react’ to covid - most of the symptoms like sneezing, aches etc are cause by your immune response remember, not by the virus itself.

We don’t know is it’s omicron we’ve just been told that omicron has out competed delta and is now almost 100pc dominant. I don’t think there’s much chance of it not being omicron but it could be the nastier Omicron variant or a new emerging variant I suppose.

The OP has been ill - worse than a little sniffle but not so bad as to need to be hospitalised - so I don't see why that means it's likely to be a nastier emerging variant. Omicron is just impacting the OP like it has impacted 100,000s, if not millions, of people in the U.K. over the past couple of months.

Iggly · 19/02/2022 08:22

Politicians and anti-covid nutters say omicron is mild.

Scientists who know what they’re talking about say omicron is milder, but not mild. And vaccines help massively.

If we had omicron before vaccines then I dread to think what the outcome would have been for the population without pre immunity or vaccines.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 19/02/2022 08:27

I had Covid two weeks ago and very similar symptoms to yours. I was kind and shared it with my husband who also had similar symptoms. The headache was the worst.

The main symptoms lasted for about five days but I still tested positive until days 9 and 10.

It has been two weeks now and I am still snuffly with headaches so it was definitely worse than a cold.
