I thought they said omicron was mild?

Everyone i know said it was just like a cold.

So far i've had : dizzy spells, horrendous migrance, sinus pain, burning eyes, body aches, on/off nausea, bad stomach, tickly cough, pressure in nose, insomnia and general feeling like utter crap/anxious.

This isnt what everyone described where its just sniffles or a cough. People I have know have had it for a couple days with no symptons at all!

Have i got a different variant, has anyone else experienced these symptons with omricon?

@Jestal, my son was poorly at the end of January, and I was testing positive right up until the last day of the 10 days isolation.

Thoosa · 18/02/2022 01:10

If you’re not in a hospital on oxygen or ventilation, it’s mild.

They were talking in comparative terms. They are focussed on when the death rate will drop.

Dishh · 18/02/2022 01:12

For whatever reason, many posters on here are desperate to minimise Covid and so describe it in the mildest terms possible. In clinical settings, 'mild' simply means you aren't requiring medical attention such as hospital treatment. For some people, Covid is indeed mild or even asymptomatic.

Hope you begin to pick up soon, OP.

Valhalla17 · 18/02/2022 01:14

Have you tested? Perhaps it's not covid at all....

Nat6999 · 18/02/2022 01:19

Ds tested positive on Sunday, had a cough for a day & that's it. His dad tested positive same day but has MS & no immune system due to treatment, he had to go to hospital on Tuesday for some kind of immunotherapy, something about an infusion that coats all the Covid cells with a milky substance that stops them attacking the body.

Jestal · 18/02/2022 01:20

@Dishh thats what i mean! I feel like everyone is trying to convince people tjat this variant is mild to justify lack of masks social distancing and generally just proceeding on with life. Which i get but there is no need to under play it. This is no what i would describe to someone as mild although i understand in clinical terms it means lack of hospital intervention.

I had a friend who had covid and jusg said he felt "off" which gave me the assumption that he was otherwise fine. It wasnt until i told him i was positive that he started telling me about his aches and chills. I dont quite get why people arent being totally honest. I definitely wouldnt be comfortable passing this on to my worst enemy let alone anyone elderly or vunerable.

@Valhalla17 yes tested yesterday negative than felt awful last night and tested again this morning with a straight up positive

I think some people just generally downplay it as they don't want to be seen as weak or that they could be vulnerable etc.

I had 3 neg tests over xmas/new year but convinced I had it, given my taste and smell disappeared. I'm pretty healthy generally but did feel absolutely awful for about a week...it was the body aches for me, I couldn't move for the pain. Shifting in bed was a nightmare. Then it took another week for the exhaustion to go and my energy to come back. Taste and smell another week.

Not as bad as flu which I've had before, but pretty grim nonetheless! You have my sympathies OP. Take it easy, rest as much as you can but try to sit up rather than lie down. Diffuser if you have one with lavender for headaches or eucalyptus for stuffy nose, vit D! Flowers

Thoosa · 18/02/2022 01:34

I suppose it was inevitable that the conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxxers would leap on the word “mild” for their own reasons.

I hope you feel better soon. Even proper flu is horrible.

bellabelly · 18/02/2022 01:40

Same as you, OP. Tested positive on Monday evening after 2 of my DCs and then my DH had already got it. They are all pretty much asymptomatic (so I assume it's Omicron) but last night I felt dreadful, lungs burning, painful chest and just feeling weird. Had a really early night and slept in until midday today - despite storm raging outside. I've felt a lot better today but def not right. I think one of my daughters picked it up at primary school - not offered vaccine yet - and then it passed to her sister and then to me and DH (both triple jabbed). My sons (double jabbed) are still testing neg though.

DrGoogleSaysSo · 18/02/2022 01:46

I had those symptoms like you OP for 2 days but after that I recovered well apart from tiredness that lasted longer.

Alpenguin · 18/02/2022 01:51

We had omicron (confirmed) and it wasn’t md, we just didn’t end up intubated. Youngest had a mild dose, eldest child who never gets ill was very unwell but only for a short time. My partner was floored for a week and he never catches anything. I ended up getting an antibody infusion in hospital and still suffer effects of covid almost four weeks later. It was horrible and not what I’d call a mild illness but it wasn’t nearly as bad as when I got covid the first time. That should say more about
How horrific covid was first time rather than how mild omicron variant is this time.

The idea that it is milder than other variants doesn’t automatically mean it’s mild but the mild narrative suits the government and the media and the conspiracy theorists.

Chichimcgee · 18/02/2022 02:00

Honestly I think it varies so much from person to person vaccinated or not.
Me and ds spent a few days with a friend who had covid. She is fully vaccinated and ended up in a coma, I’m not vaccinated, pregnant and didn’t get it at all. Ds has asthma and had it very mild, his main symptoms were loss of taste and smell. All the same strain as we only saw her, it’s really bizarre how differently it effects people and I feel incredibly lucky that I’ve managed to avoid it so far.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Juliauns91 · 18/02/2022 02:30

No-one knows what version they have. My neighbour's boy is 14 -a healthy, athletic boy and he has been in hospital for 3 days now. His parents are a bit shocked tbh.

I hope you feel better soon. Vits D and C plus Zinc as pp said.

Taking Quercetin supplement with that might be a help - here's a good paper on this if you want the science behind this: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4808895/
You can get it on Amazon.

Get well and remember that with viruses, rest rest rest and don't exert yourself. You need one of those heated throws! Flowers

@Fileexplorerrrr

Sorry to hear you feel so ill.

It makes me mad when I hear that Omicron is mild as it definitely wasn’t for me!

I’m still ill now after testing positive before Christmas and it’s looking like long covid 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m trying every vitamin, supplement, diet etc I can find to provide some relief but so far nothing.

I’ve also not been able to return to work which isn’t great financially so Omicron has turned into a bit of a nightmare and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I was also fully vaccinated too and very careful but caught it from my son who brought it home from school.

L-Lysine, L-Glutamine, Zinc, Vit D and Vit K2, Vit C, Quercetin in case you haven't tried these in your regimen. I won't clog the thread with scientific research on this but it's all online. Good luck

It seems to effect people quite differently. We had what you describe when we had Omicron at Christmas. However compared to when I had Covid in Apr 20 that is mild. I was hospitalised then with breathlessness and awful pain in my lungs.
camperqueen54 · 18/02/2022 03:10

You've just described mild symptoms. Severe gets you to ITU !

Feather12 · 18/02/2022 03:35

I have had covid twice. First time was over 3 months of quite scary symptoms, second time was sinus pain, fatigue and lasted a few days. Both were mild cases.

babyjenks93 · 18/02/2022 03:39

I'm triple jabbed and I've been hospitalised with covid in January. Definitely not a cold. I also lost my sense of smell and taste which they say it's a symptom of delta and not omicron but they kept saying it must have been omicron as I live in London and during that period basically everyone was getting it. But it was dreadful.

HerRoyalNotness · 18/02/2022 03:45

I understand what you mean, but it hits people in different ways.

Family of 5 here, we all had it at the same time
Youngest, sick 2 days, only one with a fever
Middle, zero symptoms
Eldest, cough, dodgy stomach, funny eyes, very fatigued, sick for 2 weeks
Me, sneezing, headaches, sore back, sore eyes
H, obviously man flu version. But from observation slight cough, aches, runny nose

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 18/02/2022 03:47

Dd has alpha I think (kent variant), 2 jabs and then omicron - she said omicron was worse then alpha.
Dh also had both and although omicron was milder, he was still very unwell and said he doesn’t want to catch it a third time. He felt awful but not lungs filling with fluid drowning you awful

channelislander · 18/02/2022 03:54

My sister had covid a couple of weeks ago and felt really rough, definitely more like the flu than a cold, but then a month earlier my dad and step-mum both it and were totally asymptomatic! All had every vaccine available, live in the same area, no particular underlying conditions. Within the 'mild' category there's still a lot of variance, it seems to depend person to person but I've heard of far fewer hospitalisations since omicron started to dominate

Cygne · 18/02/2022 04:00

You're right about it not being mild. DH and I have got covid for the second time. First time round it was the Kent variant, and was very mild: DH was worse than I was and said he'd had worse colds. Currently I've got a permanent headache, sinus pain and feel generally very rough (hence being awake at this godawful hour) - what's particularly driving me mad is a very sore and constantly watering eye. DH is mainly coughing a LOT. We're both triple jabbed.

RichTeaRichTea · 18/02/2022 04:11

People aren’t lying if they say it was like a mild cold for them though! It’s not their fault that they have had a milder case than you, they haven’t misled you. In my own case it was like a bad cold. I know other people who have been asymptomatic and a couple of people who have really suffered in the last month. I’m sorry you’re having a rough time and I hope you’re better soon.

Seb342 · 18/02/2022 04:19

Everyone is different. I didn't even know I had it a few weeks back, no symptoms but got picked for random testing in work. The whole time I was off I felt fine and painted and wallpapered my bedroom. I've had no vaccines and never had covid previously, or at least to my knowledge.
