I thought they said omicron was mild?

Everyone i know said it was just like a cold.

So far i've had : dizzy spells, horrendous migrance, sinus pain, burning eyes, body aches, on/off nausea, bad stomach, tickly cough, pressure in nose, insomnia and general feeling like utter crap/anxious.

This isnt what everyone described where its just sniffles or a cough. People I have know have had it for a couple days with no symptons at all!

Have i got a different variant, has anyone else experienced these symptons with omricon?

Are you vaccinated and have received the booster?

Lettuceandcucumber · 18/02/2022 05:15

The BA2 version of omicron is supposed to be less mild and harder to detect… www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/02/17/health/ba-2-covid-severity/index.html

DoctorSnortles · 18/02/2022 05:28

I'm just coming out of it now and although technically it was 'mild', I have felt absolutely terrible. However, I haven't had to contact the doctor or hospital, so it could have been much, much worse. Take paracetamol, OP, drink lots of fluids and rest.

lololololollll · 18/02/2022 05:34

Ffs guys, she's saying it's not like a cold to her. She doesn't need the definition of mild. Not on oxygen etc etc Read the updates

Disclaimer - ! I'm tired and grumpy and those replies are pissing me off more than they should

Covid ripped through my work a few weeks ago. Obviously we all had the same strain, some of us just had cold symptoms, others felt really poorly. Just affects everyone differently.

Pennox · 18/02/2022 06:02

I’m on day 12 of what surely must be omicron and only just starting to feel better now. It’s been as bad as when I had proper full on flu and lasted longer. I’ve been surprised at how not mild it’s been and if anyone said it’s just a cold now to me a couple of days ago I’d have attempted to punch them. However, rough as I’ve been, I’ve never been in danger of hospitalisation as it’s not affected my breathtaking so technically that’s mild.

Mine started with tiredness the Thursday before last, noticeable as I didn’t go out to a regular event. mild sore throat Friday. Very sore throat Saturday and Sunday. Headache started about then. Monday - Friday full on flu like symptoms. Chills, not being able to get warm, hot sweats, constant sneezing, running nose, coughing. terrible aches and pains. I’ve gone through boxes and boxes of tissues and been asleep by 10 every night which is very unusual for me. That was week one. Still very tired this week, still intermittent sneezing attacks and running nose. Feel like I’ve been run over by a truck with aching in my ankles and knees really painful. Spent yesterday in bed again. Have also had pins and needles and weird short term memory effects. Can’t remember much about last week. No change in my temperature at all though weirdly even when I was completely out of it and feeling feverish. Also my smell and taste isn’t too badly affected, just a bit impaired from the nasal symptoms and I’ve been eating ok.

From what I’ve read, these are all very normal Omicron symptoms. And the lack of temperature and no loss of taste are a distinguishing feature from Delta apparently.

I think PP are completely right, lots of people have been deliberately playing done omicron and are determined to push the ‘it’s just a cold’ narrative for some reason.

I’m awake now on Day 12 and this is the first morning where I’ve had little or no symptoms. Hopefully you’re not far behind and will feel better soon. I look terrible with massive dark circles under my eyes and this has been the most I’ll I’ve been since I had flu some years back. This was slightly worse overall as I felt iller and it’s lasted longer. I can totally feel how if I had had no antibodies from vaccines ready to mount a defence or had any underlying conditions or lung issues that this could have overwhelmed my body. I really think we shouldn’t underestimate this virus, even the omicron variant.

Pennox · 18/02/2022 06:09

BTW I’m counting Day 12 from when I tested posted on the Monday, the symptoms really started the Thursday before so really it’s Day 16 - can take a long time to shake.

My 11y old had what must be the same staring the week before me, I got it from him, and he was unwell with a high temp and fatigue for 3 or 4 days then totally fine.

Alrightqueenie · 18/02/2022 06:40

I listened to an interesting R4 programme yesterday, Inside science, where they discussed a variant of omicron.

Jestal · 18/02/2022 06:44

@Pennox ah sorry to hear you have had a rough time with it too. It is oddly reassuring hearing others have had the same symptons and i was starting to second guess what I had.
I think you hit the nail on the head about how people are downplaying it for their own narrative. This is not a cold and should not be generalised like one for false comfort! It only makes people like me freak out more when they dont experience cold like symptons.
Its funny because I thought if I got covid I wouldnt mind so much about it when I go out as I was still taking precautions not to get it but no! This has caused the oppisite effect if anythinf I want to carry on wearing my mask and make sure not to get it again since now I've realised how horrid it is. All those people that got no symptons are lucky

Also thank you everyone for all the vitamin suggestions! Will get onto taking vitamin C immediately and looking up the other stuff

I had Covid(I assume Omicron) a couple of weeks ago. I was much more ill than when I had it in 2020. But it was still like flu - proper laid up in bed flu aching rather than a cold.

I assumed it's called mild because much less people go to hospital than previous variants. Still I don't fancy catching it again every time there's a new strain going around

niceupthedanceagain · 18/02/2022 06:49

I had your symptoms with omicron plus drenching night sweats, chicken pox rash everywhere and I lost 10lbs as I had zero appetite for a fortnight. Hope you feel better soon.

Jestal · 18/02/2022 06:55

@niceupthedanceagain goodness that sounds really serve! Im glad you are feeling better

I feel shit too and so does my 4 year old. He’s on day 4 and no way could he go to nursery. Hope you feel better soon.

Pennox · 18/02/2022 07:01

Hope you’re all feeling better soon x I feel like I’ve just come out into the light and now there’s a bloody great storm about to but me! I wouldn’t even have noticed last week!

Let’s keen reminding each other to take our vitamins, I have a feeling this is going to linger for a bit with post viral symptoms. I’m meant to be back at work today (from home) and I can barely remember what my job is at the moment!

Hollyhead · 18/02/2022 07:02

I’ve got it at the moment and had a bad headache for one day - I took ibuprofen once which seemed to shift the whole illness from starting to feel quite fluey and rough to something much more mild. I wonder if taking anti inflamatories early helps knock some of the symptoms early.

I am however not lying about my relatively mild symptoms for my own narrative though Hmm you could just as easily allege the opposite - that people are bigging up the symptoms to suit their narrative.

Hollyhead · 18/02/2022 07:07

Just to add to the other symptoms I’ve had - annoying cough, sniffy nose, the bad headache (like I said), spells of fatigue/tiredness. But all quite intermittent, I’m on day 5 today.

Wnkingawalrus · 18/02/2022 07:10

The cold we’ve all had in my household this last week has produced way worse symptoms than the covid we all had a short while ago.

I’m still amazed that some of the young, healthy people at my work seem to be getting hit much harder than we did. Who knows what the real factors are.

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 18/02/2022 07:13

It took me 3 weeks to feel myself after covid. It started with a fever and chills, pain in joints, eye pain and headache. Felt better on day two then on day 3 sore throat and cough began, nose bleeds, sinus pain. I had to sleep elevated as I couldn't breathe in the night and actually had to make a trip to A and E because of this. It was awful and definitely not mild for me, I was bed bound for 6 days. Funnily enough daughter was over it in a couple of days and DP didn't get it.

Blubells · 18/02/2022 07:15

Op, are you vaccinated? And did you get a booster?

PollyPurpose · 18/02/2022 07:21

Triple jabbed and I felt awful but nothing life threatening/no need to call a doctor etc etc.
also had
Dizziness (main on and off symptom)
Bad stomach
Drowsiness and aching
Sweats
Headache like a hangover
Cold symptoms
Mine changed daily and I slept alot the first few days.
Still positive on day 11 so stopped testing

marqueses · 18/02/2022 07:22

Sorry you feel ill, it's interesting that yor expectation was that it would be be like a cold. The one constant through all of this has been the total unpredictabity of how an individual will feel. My experience from friends, workmates and random people I follow on SM is that it's definitely not like a cold and I would expect to feel rough anything better than that would be a win.

Pennox · 18/02/2022 07:24

I forgot about the pain behind the eyes, that was an early symptom.

bumblefeline · 18/02/2022 07:28

Depends on the person I think. I had the Alpha variant and it was very mild for me but put DH in hospital. He then got Omicron and it was extremely mild.

Get well soon OP.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 18/02/2022 07:36

But for most of us it WAS just like a cold
I'm not downplaying anything - DS had a snotty nose for 2 days, DP and I felt like a bad cold. We were both very very tired afterwards but other than that it WAS mild.
Obviously not everyone has the same symptoms though but the majority of people are getting it mildly. Did you say whether you're vaccinated?
