DD positive. Will I get it?

DD (8) tested positive Sunday. A clear line enough but not super strong/dark. She was a bit ill Sunday and back to normal yesterday. Negative tests yesterday and today.

We're not distancing ourselves from her as I don't think that's fair on her, and I slept in her bed day 1 as she was upset/feverish. DH and I both boosted early December.

I'm (perhaps vainly) hoping that she has a low viral load which reduces the chance of her passing it on.

I know it's an impossible question to answer but I'd love to hear anecdotal experiences either way!

Ds has it in October and no one else caught it

He's got it again and we're just waiting to see, todays day 4 and so far we've been lucky but I think it's probably a bit early to tell

Beamur · 01/02/2022 17:33

My DD had Covid December 2020, didn't isolate in the home, she was quite upset and a bit clingy. Neither me nor DH caught it.

fairgame84 · 01/02/2022 17:34

I had it March and nobody else got it.

DS had it in December and I got it again but DH has never had it. We are all double jabbed.

PostThenGhost · 01/02/2022 17:35

Neighbours who slept in the same bed -one had it the other one never caught it.

Boss and his wife avoided it whilst toddler and 6 year old both had it and had lots of cuddles and shared beds with them as they were poorly and needed comfort.

Colleague’s partner had it but she didn’t catch it.

Another colleague, one child had it but the other two children and two adults didn’t catch it.

Friend -whole house caught it.

Another house - everyone caught it even though they were distancing.

ElleGB · 01/02/2022 17:36

My son had it two weeks ago, also slept next to him and didn’t distance in the house.

Neither me nor his sister have caught it.

ShallWeTalkAboutBruno · 01/02/2022 17:37

All 5 of us in the household came down with it one after the other. Some households there is no spread at all. Impossible to say.

Cosycosynights · 01/02/2022 17:40

Impossible to say.

One of my dc had it ages ago, no one else caught it.

Me and dh currently have it, we think we have probably caught it from our other dc.

Cassandrainthenight · 01/02/2022 17:41

DD(11) tested positive on Friday, I tried not to be around her too much, but did kiss her(on the forehead) and hug her a few times because she was miserable, I tested positive yesterday. DH tried much harder to keep his distance.

So far the youngest child is negative and DH is negative. DH and I are both vaccinated but he's boosted and I'm not.
I feel a bit shitty and last night was rough with running hot and cold but if I didn't know it was Covid I'd put it down as one of the milder colds I had.

eleanoreleanoreleanor · 01/02/2022 17:42

DC1 was the only one who tested positive in our house in Jan. They were on my lap feeling poorly for about 2 hours before we did the lft, we shared a bed for 4 days and had several cuddles. I didn't catch it, nor did DC2 and they played together all week. Neither DC are vaccinated as they are too young but DH and I are.

ButtercupBlue · 01/02/2022 17:43

Anecdotally, no.

DS1 and DS2 both had it in September, one after the other and neither DH or I caught it.

DS2 got it again in January, different symptoms and much milder this time. He was testing negative by day 5.

The rest of us haven't caught it this time.

We're in a small house and he's not of an age I'd be happy to make him isolate from the rest of us even if we had the space. DH is vaxxed but I'm not (for health reasons, I'm not anti vax!)

MissVictoriaPlum · 01/02/2022 17:51

Both my children have just had it. Neither DH or I caught it

Hangingtrousers · 01/02/2022 17:56

My 3 kids and husband all got it last 2 weeks... not me. No idea why

Theforest · 01/02/2022 17:58

DS15 got it in autumn and I got it. DH and DS10 didn't.

DS10 has had it for over a week. but no symptoms. No one else has it.

ducktape · 01/02/2022 18:00

Both DC had it in August, DH and I (both vaxed) didn't.
Last week DC1 tested positive on Friday, DC2 then tested positive on Monday and I have tested positive today (Tuesday). I'm assuming me and DC2 have caught from DC1. DH is still negative he is vaxxed with AZ but not boosted yet where as I am boosted (triple Pfizer) . We had opened windows/ventilated when in room together and I've kept things clean as much as poss but haven't isolated the kids. I have been much more hands on with them tho/and spent more time in DC1s company when she was unwell which only really lasted 48 hrs.

Mama7677 · 01/02/2022 18:17

Dd got it last week, I came down with it five days after she recovered. I am triple jabbed.

MaebeaorNot · 01/02/2022 18:20

All 3 of mine had it over Xmas. We didn’t distance from each other and the youngest slept in my bed etc.

I didn’t get it. No idea why not!

Fl0w3ry · 01/02/2022 18:26

First time our whole house got it even though we tried to distance, ventilate and heavily cleaned everything.
Second time didn’t distance at all from each other. DC1 tested positive. DC2 slept in the same room as DC1 and did not catch it. DH then tested positive and I didn’t catch it.

trevthecat · 01/02/2022 18:27

My 4yr old had it, slept with me every night. Noone else in the house caught it

TooMuchToblerone · 01/02/2022 18:37

DH, DD and DS have all had it on separate occasions over the last year, most recently DD 2 weeks ago. I didn't catch it at all, despite all being in close contact.

Crunchymum · 01/02/2022 18:41

DC1 had it recently and neither myself nor DC2 or DC3 caught it. No distancing, older kids share a room Shock

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/02/2022 18:42

DS(7) tested positive last Thursday, and he has been no more than 6 inches from me since then, breathing or coughing on me continuously. I am living on my last nerve now, but I somehow haven't caught COVID.

SpongebobsPants · 01/02/2022 18:56

DS(13) had Covid in December and nobody else in the family caught it. BUT he stayed in his room and used a separate toilet. And very happy he was too, playing games on his laptop while WhatsApping his fellow Covidy friends.

DS(9) tested positive last week. He is a very different child from his brother (and of course a few years younger) and likes lots of hugs and closeness, so we kept things as normal as possible. I have Covid!!

Take from that what you will😬

Level75 · 01/02/2022 19:07

Wow, what a mixed bag! So pot luck by the sounds of it. I'll keep you updated...

OP posts:
Runnerduck34 · 01/02/2022 19:17

Not necessarily!
We've had covid twice in our house and each time it didn't impact all of the family, so a bit like chicken pox or the common cold, it's not a cert you'll get it if a family member has it.
( and we didn't isolate alone in out bedrooms, only have 1 shared bathroom etc so weren't being super careful).

Level75 · 04/02/2022 13:17

Thought I'd update in case anyone else is interested.

DD tested negative every test after the initial positive. She definitely had it as she was symptomatic for 1 day. She's allowed out tomorrow.

The rest of the household has been negative throughout.
