Has anyone caught (or think you caught) covid in a cinema/theatre or happily escaped it when visiting the cinema?

I am just trying to weigh up the risks. My DD has been invited to go to a popular children’s movie (just launched) at the cinema by her Godmother. My instinct is to say no because the cinema will be full of unvaccinated, non mask-wearing kids. However, I wondered if it is actually not that risky because people are not talking face to face but sitting quietly all facing in one direction? I know there’s been some research published suggesting this is the case but I believe it was done in relation to pre-Delta covid so less transmissible back then! I wondered what people’s recent experiences were with cinema/theatre trips, especially with unvaccinated DCs who havent recently had covid before going to the cinema/theatre?

I caught it, first time round - I'm reasonably sure - at a theatre. First time my DD caught it was probably at the theatre too, though could also have been school. Second time round was definitely school.

We are, however, going to the theatre next week (and I went a couple of times before Christmas and the Omicron surge), and again a couple of weeks later. We've been a little bit more cautious about going to the cinema, because the risk/benefit balance doesn't seem so good - we'd be going for the sake of it, as there's not loads we want to see, but there's lots at the theatre so it feels more worth it.

We'll still wear masks in theatres/cinemas, though. I'm keen to do more normal things but feeling very wary about DD getting it again as she's been really wiped out by both bouts and I'm concerned about her.

You just have to decide what the risks are worth to you - if we were going to see MIL that week we'd avoid it as she's CEV; if not then we'd wear masks, be a bit careful, but go anyway.

We go to the cinema practically every week and haven't had covid yet. In saying that, my son caught covid (probably at the panto) but the rest of our household didn't get it and we didn't isolate him in his room at all, he was around us all the time.

I've worked in schools, bern to pubs, clubs, restaurant, cinemas and had covid positive children living in my house on 2 occasions and still haven't caught it.
