Cases on the rise again?

Garysmum · 24/01/2022 16:33

Don't know if it's just me but looking at stats and clicky map - many local areas are on the rise again - some quite significantly so in the 50-100% rise in a week bracket.

I'm SE where there was a huge rise around Christmas which had started to fall but now it's climbing again.

Hospital numbers are rising too, which you would expect.

As I am CV, this is concerning with all the things giving a slither of protection gone.

I wonder what could happen if numbers get completely out of control - if people continually reinfect each other or we get a new variant. I assume most people don't care - they just want to get on with life and won't worry too much unless they are personally badly affected - for example if an elderly relative ends up in hospital or their kid gets long covid and can't sit exams.

Well, we can't live in a continuous cycle of lockdowns.

Garysmum · 24/01/2022 16:48

Who mentioned lockdowns?

OP posts:
Remmy123 · 24/01/2022 16:49

Yes they will be on the rise as schools are back

Mindymomo · 24/01/2022 16:53

In the SE cases haven’t fallen for a few weeks, don’t know whether it’s because here more people have registered their positive tests. London cases have fallen after a couple of weeks, but it hasn’t happened for the SE yet.

JanglyBeads · 24/01/2022 16:54

Scientists are suggesting we could have a second omicron wave fuelled by the lack of protections in schools.

Garysmum · 24/01/2022 16:58

In my region - we ended up with say 2000 cases per 100k pop, that dropped to 800 cases and is now back at 1250 ish. (numbers illustrative) - so a huge drop with cases more than halving and now bouncing back quickly.

The lack of protections in schools is a nightmare for me. I wish I could pull all my children out.

Just checked and still falling here SE London not sure if schools will impact

When did we last have a lockdown Hmm

Lack of protections anywhere.

School children will get it.

Those children who catch itwho are due their second jabs will have to wait three months (!) before they can. And they may catch it again. Each time they catch it, they’ll have to wait. Again.

These kids will pass it on to older adults as their boosters start to wane.

Great pandemic management.

Politicians need to fuck off out of public health.

Or at the very least let scientists explain how science works (because, let’s face it, many people didn’t pay attention during GCSEs).

OP, I have a close family member who is CEV.

I know how difficult it is hearing those throwaway phrases from friends such as "we have to learn to live with Covid", 'Are you never going on a plane again then? "

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/01/2022 17:15

Yes more than 25% of ds's primary school year are off with covid. All in the last few days.

itsgettingweird · 24/01/2022 17:16

@Remmy123

Yes they will be on the rise as schools are back
Probably!

70% of my class have all tested positive over the past 3 days!

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 24/01/2022 17:17

Tim Spector/Zoe reported at the weekend that the fall in overall rates has stalled, and rates are starting to rise in London and south.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/01/2022 17:18

They’ve never stopped rising round me and are continuing to go up.

Staffy1 · 24/01/2022 17:21

It will probably rise more now that everyone has been ordered back into the office.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/01/2022 17:21

I don’t look at the numbers- vaccinated and at this point if it gets me it gets me

JamaicaSq · 24/01/2022 17:23

Madness here, some schools only just managing to be open, so many staff and pupil absences.
LA for the first time in ages, sending out reminders about contingency for vulnerable children and those of critical workers. Advice to leaders and governors about making decisions on closure.

Reported as 2,755 children absent with COVID on Friday.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 24/01/2022 17:23

Cases have been on the rise where I am in SE and I wondered if this was schools coupled with the movement towards reduced testing.

I am sorry to say you will get a lot of self entitled posters who will claim their freedom to waltz about as they please trumps your need to not catch covid.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 24/01/2022 17:24

@Staffy1

It will probably rise more now that everyone has been ordered back into the office.
I dont think people have been ordered back to the office. Most places have adapted hybrid working and some see straight through this Governments barmy policy and are waiting until March.
Itisasecret · 24/01/2022 17:31

We were saying this the other day. There are two pandemics. One it’s nearly over for everyone else. Two it’s a crisis for schools and not even finished.

Just about keeping our school open with MDSAs taking classes. Sweeping through the years and then going back around. My daughter has 50% of her class off. Primaries are struggling. Many are just being reinfected over and over because they have no vaccine and no mitigation. Schools won’t actually tell parents how bad it is. There will be a teacher/TA to meet and greet at the end of the day even if they have to swap around the Yr groups.

GirlInACountrySong · 24/01/2022 17:37

so they are rising....well what to do?

what would you like to have happen op....its not as serious as previous variants, most people are just getting on with it

edwinbear · 24/01/2022 17:39

We've had a huge number of positives in DD's Y5 year group over the weekend. The school are collapsing the classes into two on site and one online, from tomorrow. They closed for a week just before Christmas because they had so many cases, but seems it's taken off again. Thankfully nobody has been very ill, but it's so hard for the school, parents and pupils.

Flaxmeadow · 24/01/2022 17:40

Could be BA.2 Omicron sub variant? Maybe

Scottishgirl85 · 24/01/2022 17:42

Numbers rising don't matter. It's only if hospitals can't cope that it becomes an issue. We need to stop testing to be honest. I suspect they'll move to testing hospital admissions only soon.

I'm CEV and I can guarantee you I've said those phrases. This whole thing has been the worst of my life and I've had a lot of shit in my life. Being locked up and hidden away is something I'll never ever do in my life again. I honestly would rather take my chances with covid than go through this again.
